The Frioul archipelago is a group of 4 islands located off the Mediterranean coast of France, approximately at 4 kilometres (2 miles) from Marseille. The islands of the archipelago cover a total land area of approximately 200 hectares.

The Frioul archipelago is a group of 4 islands located off the Mediterranean coast of France, approximately at 4 kilometres from Marseille. The islands of the archipelago cover a total land area of approximately 200 hectares. he islands of Friuli ( Provençal Frieu ) are an archipelago located about 2.7 km off the Endoume district in Marseille . It is composed of four islands , the whole reaching 200 ha . The Islands are one of the 111 districts of Marseille attached to the 7 th district .

Friuli consists of four islands:

Pomègues to the south ( 2.7 km long, 89 m maximum altitude);
Ratonneau to the north ( 2.5 km long, culminating at 86 m );
If , east of the two main islands and on which is built the old prison of the castle of If; this fortress would have sheltered Edmond Dantès , the imaginary hero of the novel The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas ;
the Tiboulen islet of Friuli west of Ratonneau.

The Pomègues and Ratonneau islands are connected by the Berry dike , which was built in 1822 under Louis XVIII . It was named after the Duke of Berry , assassinated in 1820 by Louvel . This dyke has transformed a fairground anchorage used since the Romans as a real port. A star service connects the Old Port (Quai des Belges) to the islands. The port of Pomègues-Ratonneau is separated from the Old Port by a distance of 5.9 km , while a 4.4 km route is necessary to reach the Château d'If .

The Friuli Islands are currently facing conflicting prospects for their future. They present the administrative peculiarity of being the property of the commune for more than 90% of its soil, which is extremely rare for an urban space of this size. Some developers want to make an island paradise for billionaires, the environmentalists prefer it restrict human use.

These islands, because of their strategic position in the harbor of Marseille, have for a long time been defenses advanced: each eminence carries a military fort, and batteries, trenches, observation posts, dot the entire archipelago. From Henri IV , a very important fort crown Ratonneau Island, currently completely buried under successive reconstructions. Then it was the island of If which is fortified and, under Louis XIV , the fortifications are extended to the whole archipelago by Vauban . Other military constructions are built under Napoleon .

From India but for research and work purposes I live in Europe. One of my best hobby is traveling. I already traveled many cities in Europe but this is my first video of travelling and vlogging.
So I came in Marseille, France to welcome the new year 2019. It is the second largest city in France, located on the French south Mediterranean coast and very beautiful city. Known to the ancient Greeks and Romans as ‘Massalia’, Marseille remains the main commercial port of French Republic.
