Sea warnings may have been lifted for Typhoon Mangkhut but its peripheral winds continue to wreak havoc. Taitung City in particular was affected by strong winds. Trees were torn apart, hitting several cars, and spectacular waterspouts formed over the nearby sea that lasted 30 minutes. The Central Weather Bureau has issued torrential rain and extreme torrential rain warnings for the eastern seaboard and southern parts of Taiwan. While Greater Taipei and Keelung are only expected to see heavy rain, there will also be strong gusts of wind. Typhoon Mangkhut was far away, but the weather in Taitung City was still turbulent. A dog was startled at the noise and looked at the scene outside before running away with its tail between its legs. But the most amazing scene is yet to come. Waterspouts formed on early Sunday morning after 6a.m. over the seas off Taimali Township in Taitung County, and spiraled up towards the sky. They lasted 30 minutes. There were continuous ten-meter waves on the beach and many boats were ruined.Boat CaptainWe were at home and people started shouting. We went out to look and saw the top of the boat had gone. We have lost everything. Although Mangkhut departed, the weather is still unstable owing to the influence of its peripheral winds. The Central Weather Bureau continued to issue special reports, including heavy rain warnings for Hualien, Taitung and Pingtung. Yilan, Kaohsiung and Nantou may have short bursts of heavy rain or torrential rains. Meanwhile, a strong wind warning was issued for Greater Taipei and Keelung.
