葛井寺（ふじいでら）が大阪の藤の名所と聞いて行って見ました。
藤井寺市はよく聞く名ですが、葛井寺は初めてです。令和元年の御朱印を求めて長い行列が出来ていました。
藤は見頃で、白い藤には熊蜂が盛んに羽音を響かせていました。青空に白色が良く映えていました。
なぜ葛の字か調べてみると白鳳時代に葛井氏が立てた寺で「葛井」は天皇から授かった名のようです。当時は葛と藤の区別が無かったようです。
後に藤井安基氏が荒廃していた寺を再建するのですが、その時に「藤井寺」という別名がついたらしいです。

The spring trip went from Tsudoshiroyama Tumulus
to the city’s namesake, Fujii-dera Temple,
then to Karakuni-jinja Shrine.
It was a journey rich in the romance of history.

EXPLORING TOKYO - WISTERIA FESTIVAL | Kameido Tenjin shrine

I went to Kameido Tenjin shrine in Tokyo to check out the gorgeous Wisteria which is in full bloom now!

The Wisteria festival (Fuji Matsuri) is from April 14th - May 6th this year. The Wisteria will be lit up in the evenings during this time so you can enjoy a night time stroll about the shrine grounds. There are lots of food stalls also so try some of the matsuri foods on offer!

Route Between Temples 1 & 10 of the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage

A brief walk along of some of the sites one will encounter along the Ohenro 88 Temple Pilgrimage of Shikoku between temples 1 & 10.

Miniature Shikoku pilgrimage

This video was shot at Toji, the major Shingon Buddhist temple southwest of Kyoto Station that has a tall pagoda. The video shows a miniature version of the Shikoku Island 88 temple pilgrimage route. On Shikoku, pilgrims spend two months walking to all 88 holy temples, which are connected to Kobodaishi, the founder of Shingon and a major Japanese cultural hero. Since Shikoku is far away and few have two months to spare, you can do the whole pilgrimage here in less than an hour. The scrolls represent the main holy image of each individual temple, blessed by the respective head priests. Soil from each temple has been placed under the footmat. So pay your entrance fee, step on the mat, deposit a prayer sheet, throw in a coin for offering, and pray for a moment before the image. Then move on to repeat it at temple number two's site, and so on, until you've circumambulated the building and thus symbolically accomplished a visit to all 88 temples!
