My Gyokuzoin Temple Stay in Nara Japan!!
While travelling in Nara, I got to sleep in a Gyokuzoin Buddhist Temple in Nara for a night and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my trip in Japan.
This Japan vlog shows what a traditional temple stay is like, including where you sleep, the view from the room, what you eat (vegetarian food) and attending morning prayers at 5.15am and 6.15am.
Mount Koya and Fukuchi-In
Stayed in Mount Koya in May 2011. Accommodation was at Fukuchi-In Buddhist temple.
KOYASAN | Unique Stay at a Japanese Buddhist Temple
From Osaka I travelled to Mount Koya, also known as Koyasan for an overnight stay at Ekoin, a 1200 year old Buddhist temple.
I'm staying at a shukubo, a pelgrim lodging at a buddhist temple. It's such a unique experience. From the Buddhist vegetarian meal (shojin-ryori) and hot spring baths to the night tour at the Okunoin Cemetery and morning fire ritual.
It's a side of Japan I haven’t experienced before. Quiet, peaceful and with beautiful nature.

A Buddhist Temple Stay on Sacred Mt. Koya, Japan
Mt. Koya was founded 12 centuries ago by the great Buddhist monk, Kobo Daishi Kukai as a center for Shingon Buddhist training. He wanted to establish a monastery far from worldly distractions but if he could only see it now....
Koyo-San is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and tourists flock here to see the temples and stay overnight in one of the 117 monasteries; our group was staying at Shojosin-in Temple after a short hike on the Woman's Trail above the village. Know that it is not easy to get here!
Koyasan Saizenin Temple Stay pt. 2
Best Temple in Japan. Koyasan Temple (My opinon that is)
Koyasan is a Buddhist Temple located at the top of Mount Koya. This is one of the most religious places in Japan. In my opinion the best Temple in all of Japan.
Beautiful wooded area surrounded by huge trees covered in moss, many small streams and a quiet tranquility that if you have the chance you should really check out.
You know the Japanese call Mount Fuji Fuji-san, so Koyasan is derived the same way. Koyasan is a very important place for followers of the Shingon Buddhism as it is here that that a man named Kobo Daishi introduced Shingon Buddhism to Japan in 805.
Now I don't want to tell you all about the religious aspects of this Temple, because I know there are people that will read this from all over the world and that follow many different religions, but let me just tell you about the Temple itself. I have been lucky enough to have lived in Japan for 4 years, and I have visited many Japanese cultural sites, from little known local temples and shrines to some of the most important. Koyasan is important for sure, but I must tell you that Koyasan felt special. I extremely enjoyed the Temple grounds. It's absolutely beautiful and peaceful. Most days I'm Mr. Negative to be honest, but I really enjoyed this place. It's not an easy place to get to, but it is well worth the trouble and I totally recommend it to anyone visiting Japan.
Many Japanese people will tell you that they visit this place because it is a place of great energy. I'm not sure, but I did feel good while there.
As always this was shot with my iPhone 4s. * I used youtubes' stabilization to stabilize this video, and to be honest, it doesn't looks so hot. I'm going to revert it when I have some time, or possibly re edit the whole thing.
Mount Koya Koyasan, Okunoin, & overnight at Shojoshin-in temple lodging
I wanted to travel to Koyasan (Mount Koya) to visit the Okunoin temple cemetery. I remember seeing pictures and videos of it online, and walking through the cemetery late in the evening. It looked really interesting.
Koyasan is a famous pilgrimage site for the buddhist religion. There are many temples in the area which provides overnight lodging for travelers, and you can also observe the daily routine and life of buddhist monks that reside in the temple.
Koyasan is not that big of a place, and walking from one end of the city to the other can easily be done. And a great thing about this place is that there are not a lot of travelers, so you can enjoy the whole place to your place.
