It's travel report by the channel of GOTO ISLANDS,which is the special channel literally focusing on the highlights of this magnificent archipelago of GOTO ISLANDS. GOTO ISLANDS, or GOTO RETTOU in Japanese, literally means 5 major islands of archipelago, is made up of 140 islands including ５major ones represented by FUKUE-jima island which is the largest one among them. GOTO RETTOU, on the east China sea,100 km off the coast of NAGASAKI city in western KYUSYU,abounds in many, many scenic and historic sites. In terms of scenic beauty,GOTO RETTOU is designated as SAIKAI National Park noted for its magnificent archipelago seascape. Additionally,in terms of historic sites, some places are designated as JAPAN HERITAGE(governmental designation),and others are registered on the tentative list of UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage!!
Accordingly, I think few places in Japan can rival this archipelago's wealth of historic and scenic sites.
So,that's why I decided to open this channel to send you travel report on this amazing archipelago by utilizing my knowledge as licensed guide.
[Today's topic]
Ishida castle, which is the last castle to be built as part of the castle system in Japan, is also known as Fukue Castle. It's commissioned by the last feudal lord of the Fukue feudal fief, Morinori Goto, and completed in 1863. This castle was built as an early warning post for foreign ships approaching the Japanese shore. It's the only castle in Japan that had three sides facing the sea and was therefore ideal to be used as a coastal defense, but in 1868, only five years after the castle was completed, the castle system in Japan was dissolved as part of the Meiji Restoration. The Inner Citadel(本丸),the main enclosure of the castle was destroyed and is currently being used by the prefectural Goto Senior High School. GOTO Tourism and Historical Materials Museum is at the ruins of the Outer Citadel(二の丸). GOTO Garden(五島氏庭園)designated as national beauty spot, which was modeled after the gardens of Golden Pavilion Temple(金閣寺) in Kyoto and built by Moriakira Goto, was planted at the ruins.Incidentally,this castle appears on the TripAdvisor as Ishida Castle Ruins.

It's travel report by the channel of GOTO ISLANDS,which is the special channel literally focusing on the highlights of this magnificent archipelago of GOTO ISLANDS. GOTO ISLANDS, or GOTO RETTOU in Japanese, literally means 5 major islands of archipelago, is made up of 140 islands including ５major ones represented by FUKUE-jima island which is the largest one among them. GOTO RETTOU, on the east China sea,100 km off the coast of NAGASAKI city in western KYUSYU,abounds in many, many scenic and historic sites. In terms of scenic beauty,GOTO RETTOU is designated as SAIKAI National Park noted for its magnificent archipelago seascape. Additionally,in terms of historic sites, some places are designated as JAPAN HERITAGE(governmental designation),and others are registered on the tentative list of UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage!!
Accordingly, I think few places in Japan can rival this archipelago's wealth of historic and scenic sites.
So,that's why I decided to open this channel to send you travel report on this amazing archipelago by utilizing my knowledge as licensed guide.
[Today's topic]
So,today,I'm reporting from Fukue island,one of the 5 major islands.
GOTO Garden(五島氏庭園)designated as national beauty spot, which was modeled after the gardens of Golden Pavilion Temple(金閣寺) in Kyoto and built by Moriakira Goto(五島盛成), was planted at The Ishida Castle Ruins(石田城跡). Lava from Mt. Onidake(鬼岳) was used for most of the stone features in the garden and it's landscaped with small hills. Plants from the southern parts of Japan were planted, such as Japanese sago palm, Asplenium antiquum, and fragrant olive. These plants were selected as being representative of Japanese gardens in the Edo Period. Incidentally,this garden appears in the TripAdvisor as a part of The Ishida Castle Ruins.????????????

So,today,I'm reporting from Fukue island,one of the 5 major islands.

SHIRAISHI in KISYUKU-town in FUKUE-island is considered to be last point of departure of the Japanese expeditionary envoy to Tang dynasty China(This envoy was called KENTOUSHI(630-894)) . And so, here remains the natural hawser stone in SHIRAISHI, reportedly used to anchor envoy ships during their port call in old days. At present, in appreciation of the great achievements of KENTOUSHI who risked their own lives for the task, a small shrine stands here and the hawser stone is also enshrined as a tutelary deity of bumper fishing and marine safety. See ???? for detailed information!!(福江島は岐宿町の白石は遣唐使(630-894)と呼ばれた唐王朝への遠征日本使節団の最後の寄港地とされている。それで、ここ白石には、往時の寄港中に遣唐使船を繋いだという艫綱石と呼ばれる自然石が残されている。現在、ここには、遣唐使たちの偉業を讃え、小さな祠を建て、豊漁、海上安全の守り神としてこの石を祀っている。詳しくはビデオをご覧の程を!)

GOTO ISLANDS, or GOTO RETTOU in Japanese, literally means 5 major islands of archipelago, is made up of 140 islands including ５major ones represented by FUKUE-jima island which is the largest one among them. GOTO RETTOU, on the east China sea,100 km off the coast of NAGASAKI city in western KYUSYU,abounds in many, many scenic and historic sites. In terms of scenic beauty,GOTO RETTOU is designated as SAIKAI National Park noted for its magnificent archipelago seascape. Additionally,in terms of historic sites, some places are designated as JAPAN HERITAGE(governmental designation),and others are registered on the tentative list of UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage!!
Accordingly, I think few places in Japan can rival this archipelago's wealth of historic and scenic sites.
