Goshikinuma's Breathtaking Blue Lakes | Trekking in Fukushima
Here is a glimpse of the beauty you can enjoy on the Goshikinuma trail.
There are 5 ponds of a stunning range of different blue colors that can be enjoyed from several different angles all the way.
go = 5
shiki = color
numa = pond
This trail is a very easy 3.9 km trail that can be enjoyed as a family (suitable for kids and elder people).
These ponds surfaced after the eruption of Mt Bandai 1888. The color is due to the mineral allophane (made up of aluminium and silicic acid) that has been released by the volcano at the time and the high acidic level of the water. is said that the colors will change over decades because of its natural elements.
There are 19 trails of different levels (from super easy to very hard) that cover 80 km in the area so I believe it is perfect for trekking and nature lovers.
I hope you will enjoy these images!

Fukushima Voice 2
Kimiko Owada of Tomioka, Fukushima Prefecture tells her current feelings, Even though I want to return home, I can't—it's not that I won't go back, it's that I cannot go back.
On the day of the nuclear accident, Owada's family then in Tomioka, first evacuated to Kawauchi Village. What is usually a 30 minute drive became a 6 hour drive due to the traffic of those being evacuated.
As telephones were down because of earthquake damage, Ms. Owada searched for information about her mother's whereabouts via various media such as the Internet.
18 days after the earthquake, Ms. Owada got ahold of information that her mother may be among the over 3,000 people evacuated to Koriyama City. She continued searching evacuation centers for 2 days before finally being reunited with her mother. However, her mother was weak and had onset dementia. After that, she was placed in a nursing facility, but due to an ever-changing environment, she couldn't get used to it and she died this year. 7 elderly members of Ms. Owada's family have died this year.
Ms. Owada has once been allowed to go back to her home in the restricted zone of Tomioka and is mourning for the sight that her hometown has become.
She said, If you only see and hear (about it) indirectly, you can't understand the pain. You can't really understand unless you have been there.
Last month, I went to see the current condition of the disaster in 3 prefectures as a member of Tasukeai Japan Fukushima. Then, the other day, I went to Odaka Ward in Minami Soma. I think it is exactly as Ms. Owada said, You can't understand unless you have been there. Even after having seen pictures or videos, if you actually go there, you will be strongly moved.
The next time Ms. Owada visits her home, I want to accompany her and feel the actual condition of Tomioka for myself with my own mind and body.

Salvador Dali Museum in Japan + Drawing Timelapses [Urabandai, Fukushima] [ Travel Vlog]
Tokyo and other major tourist destinations are super crowded during the busy Golden Week Holidays in early May, so we tried to get away from the hustle and bustle by going to the mountains. We went to the Salvador Dali Museum in Japan (Morohashi Museum of Modern Art), the Goshikinuma Youth Hostel and the Goshikinuma trail in Urabandai, Fukushima.
It turned out to also be busy. Despite the business, the area was very relaxing.
Urabandai is in the Bandai-Asahi National Park, located between Aizu and Koriyama, Fukushima prefecture. In the area is the restored Tsuruga Castle (Tsurugajo), Kitakata (of ramen fame), Lake Inawashiro (the 4th largest lake in Japan), as well as Mt. Bandai, an active stratovolcano.
Check back soon for a trail video, as well as full versions of some of the drawing timelapses!
Morimori Ramen is located across from the Bandai-Toto Bus Goshikinuma Iriguchi bus stop. We highly recommend it, especially the karaage and chicken strips.

How to get there without a car:
From Inawashiro Station or Aizuwakamatsu Station, take the Bandai Toto Bus.
Confirm with the driver first that the bus goes to Urabandai, goshikinuma or Morohashi Bijutsukan.

Let's Denken 〜 Important Preservation Districts for Groups of Historic Buildings・Fukushima, Yame 〜
The Japanese government has designated 110 places throughout the country as Important Preservation Districts for Groups of Historic Buildings. 5 of those districts are in Fukuoka Prefecture.
These districts are not confined to houses; they can be anything from townscapes and waterways. Any area that has value as a historical community can be under consideration.
In this video, we introduce one of Fukuoka Prefecture's preservation districts, Fukushima of Yame City.
Aquamarine Fukushima/ FUKUSHIMA
Aquamarine Fukushima is an aquarium located in Fukushima. The place is themed on the collision of the Kuroshio and Oyashio currents right off the coast of Fukushima. Enjoy a variety of marine creatures home to these two currents.
The world’s biggest touch pool outside of the aquarium is a reproduction of Fukushima’s seashore, where you have the chance to touch several small sea animals. The Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011 damaged big parts of the aquarium and due to loss of electricity, many fish and animals died. Sea-lions and seals were evacuated to other aquariums in Japan.
After four months of reconstruction, the aquarium reopened and continued to give strength and joy to the region’s population.

Fukushima art project - Ai Weiwei - 2015 (Japanese subtitles)
Title: Fukushima Art Project -Ai Weiwei-2015
Duration: 30 Mins
Year: 2015
This documentary on the Fukushima Art Project chronicles artist Ai Weiwei’s investigation of the site as well as the project's installation process.
In August 2014, Ai Weiwei was invited as one of the participating artists to originate artwork for the Fukushima Nuclear Zone by the Japanese art coalition Chim↑Pom, as part of the project they initiated called Don’t Follow the Wind . Ai accepted the invitation for his concern over the (Fukushima nuclear leakage) disaster as well as human’s state of living. Subsequently, Ai sent his assistant Ma Yan to the exclusion zone in Japan to investigate the site.
The Fukushima Nuclear Exclusion Zone is thus far located within the 20-kilometer radius of land area of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant. 25,000 people have already been evacuated from the Exclusion Zone. Both water and electric circuits were cut off. Entrance restriction is expected to be relieved in the next thirty years, or even longer. The art project will also be open to public at that time. The three spots usable as exhibition spaces by the artists are all former residential houses, among which exhibition site one and two were used for working and lodging; and exhibition site three was used as a community entertainment facility with an ostrich farm.
Ai brought about two projects, A Ray of Hope and Family Album after analyzing materials and information generated from the site, and his assistant Ma Yan went to the site again on March 10th, 2015 and completed the project installation.
In A Ray of Hope, a solar photovoltaic system is built on exhibition site one, on the second level of the old warehouse. Integral LED lighting devices are used in the two rooms. The lights would turn on automatically from 7 to 10pm, and from 6 to 8am daily, totaling five hours per day. This lighting system is the only light source in the Exclusion Zone after this project was installed.
Photos of Ai and his studio staff at Caochangdi that make up project Family Album are displayed on exhibition site two and three , in the seven rooms where locals used to live. The twenty-two selected photos are divided in five categories according to types of event spanning eight years. Among these photos, six of them were taken from the site investigation at the 2008 Sichuan Earthquake; two were taken during the time when he was illegally detained after pleading the Tan Zuoren case in Chengdu, China in August 2009; and three others taken during his surgical treatment for his head injury from being attacked in the head by police officers in Chengdu; five taken of him being followed by the police and his Beijing studio Fake Design under surveillance due to the studio tax case from 2011 to 2012; four are photos of Ai Weiwei and his family from year 2011 to year 2013; and the other two were taken earlier of him in his studio in Caochangdi (One taken in 2005 and the other in 2006).
