Fulong Beach golden sands.jpg
The sands there are golden, which is rare in Taiwan. Nearby is a camping site named Longmen. This beach is a favorite in the summer for people living in northern Taiwan.
The Shuang River divides the beach into inner and outer parts. There is a footbridge named Rainbow Bridge (彩虹橋) linking the two parts. However, the watercourse of the river varies every year to some extent; sometimes the bridge is functional; other times it is not, because the seaside end would be in the river or in the sea.

Kites in Gongliao 貢寮區 (Fulong Beach 福隆海水浴場)
I took this video during our sampling on May 3, 2019, in Fulong Beach, north east Taiwan. Two kites came and were searching for food. They were circling above us, then went to the fishermen and came back again. One of them came very close and for a moment I was hoping that they won't attac us.
This video is also one of my first tries of color grading in Davinci Resolve.
Disclaimer: I don't know if the birds in the video are real kites. Everyone in Taiwan calls them kites. However, they are some sort of birds of prey.

Fulong Beach Waves on 10 7 13
At 0:58, you will see a surfboard go flying in the air if you look carefully. I mention this for scale, as that was about a 6ft or more board. Waves at Fulong Beach, northern Taiwan on Oct. 7, 2013. I failed to capture the massive sets that rolled in from time to time as I shot these before I hurried and got in the water myself. In talking with other foreigners present, I was warned that sometimes a monster double-overhead wave would roll in. Most surfers went in for one wallop and then got the hell out of there. I saw only a few go back for more than one, but nobody stayed in long and many more packed up and left after looking at it -- they were the smart ones. Looking out there, every now and then a perfect right formed, but catching it was something I don't think anyone achieved that day. I got obliterated by a set that broke far outside beyond the second wall of the jetty, and getting back sputtering took all I had right out of me.

For an additional NT$87, consider the Golden Fulong Package, which includes a famous biandang (便當) lunch box and unlimited shuttle bus trips between Fulong and Ruifang (瑞芳), via Jiufen (九份). A recommended schedule for the day includes taking the train to Fulong, enjoying lunch and beach time, then taking the shuttle to Jiufen later in the day, from where it is easy to return to Taipei or continue to Keelung (基隆) and the Miaokou Night Market.
There is also a free public beach slightly southeast next to the temple. For tourists it is recommended to visit the private beach as the entrance cost provides additional amenities.
Many visitors ask how to get from Taipei to Fulong? It's most convenient to get to Fulong by taking the train from Taipei Main Station.
