Simplement 2 voyageurs: Tidal Bore rafting in South Maitland, Nova Scotia
Un peu de rafting pendant le Tidal Bore a South Maitland
Supermoon Tidal bore in South Maitland
June 23, 2013. Filmed at the Fundy Tidal Interpretive Centre in South Maitland, Nova Scotia, Canada. The Tidal Bore is a phenomenon where the incoming tides of the Bay of Fundy shove into the Shubenacadie River and reverse the flow of the river, inducing a wave. This is an especially dramatic bore because of the full moon.

Railway Adventures across Canada: The Fundy Tides.mp4
The Bay of Fundy was a finalist in the New 7 Wonders of Nature. Our video shows the tidal bore moving rapidly up river. New Brunswick and Nova Scotia's Bay of Fundy is where the ocean flexes its tidal muscle. This 170 mile long ocean bay stretches between the two Canadian provinces and is home to the Highest Tides in the World. 100 billion tons of seawater flows in and out of the Bay twice daily, creating magnificent tides that reach 16 metres (53 feet), the height of a four-storey building. It takes six hours and 13 minutes for the tides to go from high to low. The amount of water in one tide cycle would fill and then empty the Grand Canyon. Funny Nova Scotia Tidal Bore Mud Slide
So, we recently traveled to Nova Scotia. We had heard about Nova Scotia having the highest tides in the world according to the Guinness book of world records, Guinness book of world records was not joking. What you're watching is this video is us riding a zodiac/inflatable boat during the tidal bore (if you don't know what a tidal bore is, search for tidal bore nova scotia on youtube). Basically, the tide changes and all hell breaks loose. What you're watching, yes I paid almost $100 to get my arse kicked by waves. This is an absolute must do if you travel to Nova Scotia!

Blue Diamond Tours April Bay of Fundy Tidal Bore in Truro
Not a great weather day, overcast with heavy winds but we believe the tidal bore is beautiful in any light.
Rob Walsh a photographer and our Walking tour guide mentioned I have seen the tidal bore many times before, but yesterday's version was really spectacular.
I overheard people behind me saying that they had been watching it for years and they had never seen one like this one. Seagulls, and other waterfowl were being tossed around in the rapidly advancing wave.
Some of you may not be familiar with a tidal bore. It occurs when the world's highest tides of the Bay of Fundy rush in and the narrowing shape of the bay causes the water to rise and speed up. The incoming water is further restricted when it enters the narrower Salmon and Shubenacadie Rivers.
This results in a mini tsunami like wave that rushes in against the outgoing flows of these rivers. It is exciting to watch and even more fun to ride the waves with tidal bore rafting on the Shubenacadie River.

Tidal Bore on a Super Moon
This video shows the phenomenon known as The Petitcodiac River Tidal Bore, which occurs when vast amounts of water from the Bay Of Fundy rushes up the river. The one comment during the video is part of an interview with a local bystander.
Having the highest tides on the world, the waters of the Bay of Fundy can rise over 15 metres from low to high tide. The tides are most spectacular the couple of days after the Full Moon. In May of 2012, that Full Moon was also the lunar perigee, the point at which the moon is closest to the Earth. This had an additional effect on the tides.
From Wikipedia:
Formerly the highest bore in North America at over 2 metres (6.6 ft); however, causeway construction and extensive silting reduced it to little more than a ripple, until the causeway gates were opened on April 14, 2010, as part of the Petitcodiac River Restoration project and the tidal bore began to grow again.
