My first ever ski holiday in Niseko, and my first ever ski lesson.
Read below...
Skiing is something I have always dreamed of doing, but have never had the opportunity to do! Because I didn't ski growing up, I have always felt that I was too old to take on the task. I also felt really embarrassed and nervous to pluck up the courage to learn to ski in my late 20s. Particularly as all of my friends are very competent on the snow with years of experience!
Coming to Niseko in Japan has been an absolute dream come true, thanks to Alex, and although I was still super nervous going into my first ski lesson, I am so so happy and proud I did.
Thanks to the incredible NISS: Niseko International Snowsports School based in Hanazono and Hirafu, I have now completed my third 1:1 session with the most incredible instructor Billy Roberts.
He has been with me every step of the way, taught me the correct form of how to ski and helped me build my confidence more and more every single time I hit the slopes.
I honestly can't thank NISS and Billy enough for how much I have progressed in just 3 days.
My take home lesson for all of you beginners wanting to learn is...
Never ever be afraid of pursuing your passion. I was so nervous on my first day, and I felt so embarrassed that all of my friends, who have been skiing since childhood, went off and had fun skiing together while I was left behind in the beginners section.
But the truth is, NO ONE is judging you other than yourself. You will pick up this new skill, just like you would learning to drive a car or swim. It just takes time, dedication and a great instructor!
I strongly recommend doing 1:1 sessions if possible, and if you are planning to visit BEAUTIFUL Niseko in Japan, make sure you go to NISS to find the instructor for you.
Don't give up- Before we/I know it, we'll be skiing along, having a laugh with friends, and looking back on that time that we were in the beginners section with 6 year olds skiing rings around us- hehe!
Good Luck and I really hope you like this vlog and it helps many of you in the same position as me!
