Flower Fields and Endless Ice Cream in Furano HOKKAIDO Japan ???? ????????
In mid July we visited the beautiful flower fields in Furano, Japan. They were in full bloom! The island of Hokkaido is gorgeous in the summer time. We indulged and ate ALL the flavors of ice cream! Lavender, melon, cheese... It was a full day out in our RV, starting at Hinode Park, then visiting Farm Tomita, Furano Jam Garden, and Furano Cheese Factory.
What a wonderful way to celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary!

The Daily Japan - Pesona Kebun Lavender di Furano
Lavender telah ditanam di Hokkaido lebih dari setengah abad yang lalu. Ketika permintaan atas lavender impor dan murah menurun pada periode 1960-an dan 1970-an, lavender lokal pun mulai beralih fungsi dari produk agrikultur menjadi daya tarik bagi turis. Terdapat beberapa jenis Lavender yang dapat dilihat di Furano, seperti Okamurasaki, Hanamoiwa, Yotei, dan Dark Purple.
Furano menawarkan 3 tempat popular untuk melihat Lavender, yakni Perkebunan Tomita, Perkebunan Kamifurano, dan Perkebunan Tomita-Lavender Timur. Lokasi-lokasi tersebut tersebar di Furano dan kebanyakan tidak dapat dijangkau dengan mudah sehingga membutuhkan kendaraan pribadi atau taksi.
Tetapi, terdapat pula Bus Twinkle yang merupakan bus pariwisata untuk melihat Lavender di sekitar Furano yang beroperasi dari Asahikawa menuju Furano(3,5 jam, 1.500 yen). Perlu dilakukan reservasi terlebih dahulu jika ingin menggunakan Bus Twinkle dengan melakukan pemesanan di stasiun JR di seluruh Hokkaido.
Setiap kali penyelenggaraan festival, lokasi-lokasi tersebut akan sangat padat dan macet. Oleh karena itu, untuk wisatawan yang ingin menikmati Lavender tanpa harus terjebak dalam kemacetan, maka minggu pertama, kedua, dan keempat di Bulan Juli dapat menjadi pilihan yang tepat untuk berkunjung ke Furano.
Minggu ketiga Bulan Juli merupakan waktu penyelenggaraan festival. Bulan Juli sendiri merupakan bulan puncak keindahan musim Lavender.

Hokkaido has been one of the birth places of domestic wine. Furano produced local wine since 1979. Located on a hill overlooking the town, the Furano Winery is open to the public and you can enjoy free wine tasting. Nearby there is a restraint named “Winehouse” where you can try the wines in combination with Western dishes.
Near the winery stands also the Grape Juice Factory, where visitors can observe the production process from behind a window and try the taste of grape juice which is not added sweeteners. A small lavender field is also located on the hill.

Hours: 9:00 to 18:00 (until 16:30 from September through May)
Closed: New Year holidays

It takes about a tem minute by car or taxi to get above two facilities from JR Furano station.
A loop line bus which Furano Station with some of the town's sights three times per day for tourist serve the winery during summer. The fare is 1000 yen for two days of unlimited use.
The winery also gets visited by the Twinkle Bus Biei Lavender Course sightseeing bus, which runs from Furano via Biei to Asahikawa (4.5 hours, 1000 yen). Reservations for the Twinkle Bus are required and can be made at each JR railway stations across Hokkaido.

Visitors interested in cheese should visit the Furano Cheese Factory (富良野チーズ工房) in Hokkaido. The factory allows visitors observe how their local camembert type cheese is produced. Visitors are permitted to watch the process through large windows. In addition to watching the cheese making processing, visitors may sample various cheeses, including the squid ink black colored cheese produced at the factory.
The Furano Cheese Factory also has an ice cream parlor (“ice cream factory”) and a pizzeria (“the pizza factory”). The factory offers workshops for visitors to try their hand at making buttery, cheese, ice cream and bread.

*From Furano Station, the cheese factory is a 5 minute car or taxi ride.
*By Furano Kururu Bus Loop:
During the summer (from June 28th to August 10th), the red line of the Furano Kururu Bus can be used. The Furano Kururu Bus is a bus for tourists to see the town’s sights. There are four buses a day from Furano Station. The cost is 1000 yen for two calendar days of unlimited rides.
*Twinkle Bus Furano Sightseeing Bus
Visitors using the Twinkle Bus Furano sightseeing bus will have a chance to see the cheese factory in addition to other Furano tourist attractions. Reservations are required for the Twinkle Bus. The reservations can be made at any JR railway station in Hokkaido.
