Furukawa Shinsui Park Videos
Edogawa-ku Furukawa Hanami 2009
Furukawa canal (old river) used to be an important waterway for carrying salt to Edo in the 1500's. This commerce route became obsolete when the much larger Shinkawa canal (new river) came into function in the year 1629. In 1972 Edogawa-ku decided to make a park alongside the river. It's a really nice and peaceful place. The river flows through several residential areas and crosses the kan-nana highway (as shown in the video). There are many parks of this kind in the borrow but this one is my favorite. When I shot this video several areas of the park were blocked from access due to renovations and enhancement.
Komatsugawa shinsui koen - 小松川境川親水公園
Komatsugawa shinsui koen is Edogawa-ku's longest and most beautiful water park. Many small rivers and irrigation canals in the area were dried and filled over time as urban development progressed, especially in the second half of the 20th century. However, a few rivers were protected and turned into shinsui parks instead. The first project of this kind in Japan was the Furukawa shinsui park which was completed in 1974 (see video). Komatsugawa shinsui koen was opened to public on April 1st 1982. This is a must if you live around here.
