Week 15: We hiked Fushan Mountain last Saturday and it was gorgeous! I still can’t believe I live in a place where on one side of my apartment I can see the ocean and on the other side I can see a mountain. ???? Is this real life?
First dance recital in China... nailed it! ✅ Super proud of this girl and her spunk. She goes to dance every week for an hour and a half and does what she is taught without understanding the language they are speaking! Monkey see monkey do at its finest. ????

Living in Qingdao, China is like living in Boulder, Colorado next to the ocean and what could be better than that?!
Come along with us as we do our favorite climb on our neighborhood mountain on the most spectacular weather day of the year. In addition, there are tunnels built by the German in the early 1900s to fortify the mountain and warn against Japanese attacks. For reference purposes, we leave information and maps so that you can recreate this hike when you visit our beautiful city. If you live a long way away, just enjoy this beautiful climb on this spectacular day with us. Enjoy!

Episode 13: Hiking and Climbing Fu Mountain Fushan Qingdao Travel, China Shandong 远足和攀登富山福山在青岛，中国
We live in Qingdao and the way we describe it to friends and family back home is that it's like living in Boulder, Colorado by the ocean which is a GREAT combination!
We have lived here for three years and have climbed Fu many times; it is our neighborhood mountain and has many flavors and aspects depending on where you are on the mountain.
The small hamlet of Qingdao, only 11M people, is broken up by mountain chains and beautiful peaks. The one that's just a 20-minute walk from our beach bungalow is Fu. It's a gorgeous mountain with the opportunity to hike, climb, climb with ropes, mountain bike and even cycle. It's about an hour to get to the peak where there are spectacular views of both the ocean and city and you can walk on the ridge for an entire day.
It stretches from Shilaoren to the start of the downtown area. On the mountain, you will find local burial sites, German military tunnels, a Buddhist Temple, natural springs where Qingdaoans collect water, and numerous sports complexes (basketball, soccer, tennis, etc.).

Sunrise Rock Climbing on Fushan, Qingdao China
If you wake early enough to get to the peak before sunrise you can catch this nice view of the Yellow Sea to the east and the Laoshan district of Qingdao to the west. In the video you can hear the chanting the locals do at this hour from each peak. It's a good setting to set the mind in a good direction before the start of the day.

Tamsyn and I hiking Fushan, the mountain in the center of Qingdao on an unfortunately smoggy morning. The Germans built bunkers inside the mountain in the early 1900s and were used in the WWI Japanese invasion of Qingdao. One of my favorite places in Qingdao!
