To my surprise, the music was awesome at most venues.
Before you go out make sure to install the ExpressVPN app, otherwise you'll not be able to use Google Maps, which is a necessarity if you get lost or cannot find the venue.
I got lost many times looking for particular clubs. China bans Google, Facebook, Gmail, Twitter & Instagram. So for communication with the locals install WeChat, which is the WhatsApp of China.
Start off your night at Sir Elly's on top of the Peninsula Hotel, this bar has the most mesmerizing view of Shanghai (Pudong business district), than head over a few blocks down the Bund for Bar Rouge.
Bar Rouge is the most popular bar in Shanghai where you can meet expats and many English speaking locals, make sure to go on Thursday for Ladies Night!
A little further down the Bund you'll find club M1NT, this amazing club on the 24th floor of an office building, has a massive shark aquarium in their hallway and often themed events.
Entrance is free that's why drinks start at $20, so make sure to pre-drink or come with a thick stack of bills.
A 10 minute cab ride from the Bund you'll are Fusion Nightclub in the French Concession, here you'll find a young often foreign crowd jamming to house & EDM. This place wasn't my cup-of-tea.
Than there is Linx Nightclub near People's Park, a super upscale club with many expensive cars parked up-front. The club was rammed with models and douchebags, although music was good.
Again Linx had free entrance as well with drinks starting at $20
Two other places worth mentioning is NEST, a lounge bar for great dining and predrinking with friends before you start your night and club MUSE across the street from NEST, MUSE actually really surprised me, this place had incredible DJ's, so make sure to check it out when you are in the area.
Luckily cab rides start at 18 yuan ($4) which usually covers the cost getting from club to club. If you don't speak Mandarin, make sure you have your hotel address written down so the cab driver knows where to take your drunk ass.
All-in-all, the Shanghai nightlife is pretty amazing and definitely worth checking out when stopping by in Shanghai.

Wild SHANGHAI STREET FOOD in City God Temple + Yu Gardens Tour | Shanghai, China
In April of 2019, I had the pleasure of visiting China for the second time in my life. I spent 12 days exploring and eating my way through the cities of Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hangzhou. I had the time of my life and I can’t wait to share my adventures with you!
Newman Tours:
My second full day in China continued in Shanghai when I met up with my friend Daniel from Newman Tours. They offer incredible tours in cities all over China. We started our adventure in the Old Town of Shanghai at the beautiful Yu Gardens.
Our journey began at a replica of one of the four original entrances of the old town. We saw a statue of a mythological creature with a very interesting backstory outside of a jewelry store.
Our first stop was a place selling deep-fried local crabs. There are salty and spicy varieties. I went with the spicy one and dug into the meat in the middle. It was really nice and crispy. They were so meaty and delicious. I could eat everything on it, but the middle had so much meat in it!
Then we headed off to try the original xiaolongbao from 1900. To get there, we had to pass through a temple and marketplace area. We passed lots of street food vendors along the way. These xiaolongbao contain crab and pork. They’re much bigger than the regular xiaolongbao. You have to pop them with a straw to drink the soup before you eat them!
The soup inside was so hot. There was a lot of it inside! Then I grabbed my chopsticks and dove in. They’re huge and much thicker than the other xiaolongbaos I’d had, but it was so delicious!
We continued on to Yu Market, which has been around since the 16th century, and Yu Garden. It’s very clean and feels like an open-air mall. The temple architecture is stunning and there are so many things to see!
We headed on to a restaurant that sells over 100 dishes, including sweet and sour soups, dumplings, sticky rice, snails, pot stickers, eel, squid, and much more!
I went with some glutinous sticky rice balls with red bean paste inside. It was too hot and was super sticky and kind of slimy on the outside. I loved the red bean paste inside. Daniel brought me some coconut juice from Hainan Island near Vietnam. The juice was delicious and refreshing. It was straight coconut juice!
Then we crossed the zigzag bridge, which zigs and zags to lost ghosts, which were traditionally thought to only be able to travel in a straight line. I love learning about history. Ahead of us was a tea house.
There was a statue of the goddess of the lotuses. You make a wish and try to toss your coin onto the lotus pad she stands on. If I get it, I get two wishes. I got one inside and wished for a million subscribers!
Next, we went into Yu Garden, which was beautiful and dates back to the Ming Dynasty. It’s thought this temple was built using stolen money from taxpayers! There’s also an ancient rockery or rock garden, which is quite beautiful! I learned so much from Daniel!
There are lots of doorways in the garden. We reached an area where the path forked; long ago, one path was taken by the men and the other by the concubines! Newman Tours provides an audio guide for Yu Gardens that really helps you out!
Coming here is like taking a trip back in time. It’s one of the few areas where you can see things that were built in the 16th century. There was a gorgeous gate with two huge dragons with three fingers. From there, we fed the fish. There are lots of carp there and they’re really big!
We also saw a large rock that was meant to be a gift to for the emperor, but it fell into the river after it was placed on a boat to be transported to the capital. It was fished out hundreds of years later and moved to the garden.
To wrap up, Daniel gave me the opportunity to see my future by using some ancient Chinese fortune sticks. You shake the container containing the sticks until one comes out. On the stick is a fortune that corresponds with one in a booklet. You only want one; if two come out, it means the gods are laughing at you!
I made a different wish and shook out the number 9. It told me to be honest, straight, and true if I win success in life, otherwise I would fail!
I hope you enjoyed my wild Shanghai food tour and Yu Gardens visit! If you did, please give it a thumbs up and leave me a comment. Also, please subscribe to my channel!

Shanghai MAGLEV TRAIN REVIEW - The FASTEST Train in the WORLD at 431km/h (268mph) | Shanghai, China
In April of 2019, I spent ten incredible days exploring the cities of Shanghai, Suzhou, and Hangzhou in China. It was my second trip to China in four years – I had first traveled to the country in 2015 with my dad. During that trip, I explored Shanghai, Beijing, and Xi’an. I couldn’t wait to explore more of Shanghai and check out Suzhou and Hangzhou for the very first time!

After arriving in China following nearly 24 hours of travel from Miami, I still needed to get into the city of Shanghai. The fastest way to do that is to take the Shanghai Maglev, which is the fastest train in the world and travels at speeds up to 268 miles per hour! It operates by magnetic levitation and is the first and only commercially operated Maglev train in the world. It’s something you must experience when you visit Shanghai!
This train only takes 8 minutes to get from the airport to Shanghai. It’s been running for almost 20 years. I saw a similar Maglev train in development during my trip to Japan in January of 2019. I was so excited to ride it!
The train would take me to a station in the center of Shanghai, where you can catch the metro line or buses. The ticket costs 50 Yen for regular economy and 100 Yen for VIP. There’s a new train every 15-20 minutes, so you never have to wait long for one.
I took VIP and was alone in the car. There’s a monitor on the ceiling that shows you how fast you’re going. I kept watching the numbers go up as we picked up speed and soon the buildings and scenery outside were zipping by! This Maglev train is so much quieter than the bullet train I rode in Japan. All I could hear was a gentle hiss!
Once I made it to the station, I’d have to get an Uber or use the metro or bus, but that was okay because this experience was worth it! It’s super luxurious and there are no servers because the ride is so short.
I could actually feel the car swaying as the train turned. I had never felt anything like it in my life. You definitely need to stay seated while the Maglev train is moving. Otherwise, you could hurt yourself!
We maxed out at about 401 km/hour, or about 249 miles per hour. I wasn’t sure why we never reached the peak speed, but it was fine. Something really great about the Maglev is that it’s super easy to find. After you go through Immigration, you see Maglev signs everywhere that point you in the right direction, so just follow them and you’ll find a ticket counter, where you pay, and then you go down to the platform!
And just like that, my first Maglev ride was at an end! I couldn’t wait for Japan to get this train, which would cut the travel time from Tokyo to Osaka to just 67 minutes.
From there, I wanted to catch an Uber to my apartment in People’s Square, which is one of the main squares in Shanghai. I’m familiar with the area and it only cost me $30 per night. But unfortunately, there is no Uber, so I had to catch a taxi instead.
I had to meet up with a fan from Sweden at a local camera mall to buy a new lens because my lens and camera broke the previous day. The traffic was really bad and I only had an hour and a half to get to the store. We finally got there after an hour. Luckily I knew they had the lens I needed because my friend Nea from Stockholm told me it was there!
I got my lens at the camera mall! The lens made such a huge difference! From there, Nea and I took a taxi and she told me the street food in Shanghai is gone due to sanitary concerns. But there are still hole-in-the-wall eateries.
I arrived in People’s Square and had to search to find my Airbnb. I finally found it and headed up to the top level to get to my tiny studio apartment. It had a super low ceiling and was hard to get to with the luggage! But it was everything I needed: a place to leave my stuff and a place to sleep at night, so it was perfect for me!
What an adventure! I hope you enjoyed coming along on my first Maglev train ride and my journey through Shanghai! If you did, please give it a thumbs up and leave me a comment. Also, please subscribe to my channel so you don’t miss any of my upcoming travel/food content!
