Adeyto ????️ SADO ISLAND west coast bus & walk NIIGATA ????️ HUAWEI P20 PRO
Actually Sado Island is a very large island and we have only visited a part of it's North & East coast and the roads are always along the shore line, the drive is like in Amalfi or Lofoten. There are many bus lines on Sado but sometimes you need to wait hours in between buses and some routes only run on weekends. Best is if you can rent a bike or car.

Adeyto ????????️ FUKUSUKEYA RYOKAN HOTEL ????️ SADO ISLAND Niigata STUNNING LANDSCAPE ????️ HUAWEI P20 PRO
BEST LOCATION Japanese Traditional Hotel Ryokan to stay on northern part of Sado Island to see the amazing Amur Dayilies and Futatsugame & Ohnogame geological formations!! For just $75 a night you have stunning ocean views, huge dinner and rich breakfast!! Stunning sunsets and stunning trail on the shore!! Cute scenic rice paddies!! Absolutely amazing place and lovely owners!! Two nights here and not enough to see all the surrounding beauty!!
Adeyto ????️ Most Beautiful Cliff????SADO ISLAND Daylily OHNOGAME Kanzo Flower NIIGATA ????️ HUAWEI P20PRO
SADO ISLAND's most beautiful place is hands down the northern part with the high cliffs of Ohnogame Mountain full of yellow Amur Daylilies Tobishima Kanzo in early June and the stroll to Futatsu-Game islets! After seeing more of this island I think this was the absolute best of it, closely followed by the Hiranezaki Sea Vortex Potholes. There are such yellow lilies in other places in Japan but maybe this here is by far the most scenic for photos, with the Ohnogame that reminds of the Machupicchu mountain backdrop. Make sure to get out to photograph them at 6am already to have best light contrast and no people around. Also stay at a hotel nearby that you can find zooming in on Google Maps, because the entire area is STUNNING and GORGEOUS much better than other cliffs and beaches of SADO ISLAND!

One Day Adventure to Sado Island
Just a short ship ride from Niigata City is Sado Island, a beautiful and mountainous oasis landscape full of breathtaking views. The island and its attractions are quite spread out so renting a car is highly recommended, of course their are tour companies and public buses that can take you around, but you will be limited on the amount of time you can spend in each place.
Sado island offers many wonderful attractions such as temples, beaches, museums, shrines, lighthouses, and even sake breweries. If you like outdoor activities this is a place where you can be outside year round, however in winter you will be freezing your butt off.
I only had one day to explore the island. I went with a group of friends and we rented a car for the five of us. We arrived at the Ryotsu port and departed the ship really excited. The Nippon Rent a Car shuttle arrived within ten minutes and took us to the rental shop. Even though we booked a small car due to availability they had a cancelation which allowed us to upgrade to a larger vehicle which gave us more room.We hopped on the road to start our first activity which was the taraibune, a circular tub boat. We were able to be taken around a small bay for ¥800 each. The landscape was filled with volcanic rock and just beneath the water were; fish, sea urchins, and other marine animals. The boats also have small window boxes you can use to see beneath the water. This adventure was quick, only taking 20 minutes to complete a full circle through the bay. After experiencing the taraibune we needed snacks and what better place than a cafe called Shimafuumi where we sipped on cafe au lait and ate ricotta cheesecake enjoying the breathtaking views of the mountains and the sea. Our next stop was the Kinzan Gold mine, a museum, that showcases gold mining starting in 1601. In fact this particular mine was still in use as recently as 1989. The museum uses robots in different scenes to show the hard life for the people who worked there. There is even one set up where the man talks about how he really wants to see a woman. When you exit the actual mine you enter into a museum that has various artifacts and you can pick up a heavy gold bar with your hands. There is even a challenge of who can get the gold bar through a small hole. Our night ended with conveyor belt sushi and then a nice comfortable boat ride back home.
Getting to Sado Island
There are many ways to get to Sado Island:
Tokyo to Niigata; Let`s say that you are coming from Tokyo and want to venture all the way to Sado Island. First you will need to take the Joetsu Shinkansen from to Tokyo Station to Niigata Station. The journey takes about two hours (more or less time depending on the type of train). The trip, as of 2016, costs ¥10,780 for a one way non-reserved seat. Then you need to head to Niigata Seaport.
Niigata Station to Ryotsu, Sado: From Niigata Station you will need to walk about five minutes to get to the Bandai Bus Terminal (万代口バスターミナル). Many buses will take you to the Seaport (E10,E20, E22, E25, etc) and costs ¥280 (as of 2016) one way. Of course you can always hail a taxi from Niigata Station it will be quicker, but a little more expensive. Once at the Seaport you can purchase your tickets and it appears that they even accept Suica. The cost for the car ferry (for people without cars) is ¥2120 each way(2nd class). The trip takes about two and a half hours. JetFoil service can also be used which takes an hour less but costs more than double the price each way. I have not used JetFoil so I am unable to talk about that particular ship. The Car Ferry is nice. It has a restaurant, arcade area, and gift shop. It is very clean and comfortable. There are many seats outside around the ship. The traveling rooms (in second class) are an open carpeted floor area. Remember to take of your shoes before stepping on to the carpet. Keep in mind that Niigata Prefecture can get very cold and windy in the winter time and due to safety service may need to be canceled.
Naoetsu to Ogi
I have not traveled this route, but it appears it takes two and a half hours and offers fewer routes per day than the Niigata route. More information can be found here:
Teradomiri to Akadomari
This appears to be the most difficult route unless you are going to be in this area as well as the most expensive of the three options. The service also does not appear to be a car ferry, and is suspended during the winter. More information can be found here:
