Tin tức: Nếu không vào được VOA, xin các bạn hãy vào để vượt tường lửa. Hội Người Việt ở Anh hôm 30/10 cho biết rằng vụ phát hiện 39 người chết trong xe tải đông lạnh gây “xôn xao”, “đau buồn” trong cộng đồng, và cho hay đang “hỗ trợ” quá trình nhận dạng các nạn nhân.
Bà Anh Đào Carrick, thành viên Ban Thư ký Hội Người Việt ở Anh, nói với VOA tiếng Việt: “Mọi người ai cũng quan tâm và rất là lo lắng về vấn đề này. Một số người Việt có thể ở trong số 39 người đấy. Vì thế, mọi người rất là lo lắng, không biết là có đúng không”.
Bà cũng cho biết rằng Hội của mình “có hỗ trợ, làm việc với Đại sứ quán Việt Nam ở Anh” trong quá trình giúp xác định danh tính của các nạn nhân.
Tin tức ban đầu cho biết rằng tất cả 39 người chết là “công dân Trung Quốc”, nhưng sau đó một số gia đình ở Nghệ An và Hà Tĩnh lên tiếng nói rằng con cái họ có thể nằm trong số người tử vong.
Đại sứ Anh tại Việt Nam, ông Gareth Ward, hôm 28/10 cho biết “vẫn chưa có thông tin chính xác những người này là ai và họ đến từ đâu”. Nhà ngoại giao này nói thêm rằng ông biết là “cộng đồng người Việt ở trong nước và ở Anh đều đang rất lo lắng”.
Phóng viên VOA tiếng Việt đã gọi vào đường dây nóng của Đại sứ quán Việt Nam ở Anh, được cho là để “tiếp nhận thông tin của người nhà nạn nhân”, và một người trực điện thoại cho biết rằng “chúng tôi vẫn đang làm việc với phía cảnh sát Anh”.
Nữ nhân viên cho biết rằng cơ quan ngoại giao Việt Nam ở Anh “cung cấp những thông tin mà người nhà có chuyển đến và những thông tin này hiện giờ vẫn đang dùng để xác minh”.
“Họ thường cung cấp ảnh và thông tin tên tuổi đầy đủ [cũng như] năm sinh và quê quán”, người trực đường dây nóng nói.
Đầu tuần này, Thủ tướng Anh Boris Johnson đã tới đặt hoa và viết trong sổ tang tại tòa nhà hội đồng địa phương của quận Thurrock, địa hạt Essex.
Nhà lãnh đạo Anh viết: Cả đất nước, thậm chí là cả thế giới, đều sốc trước thảm kịch này và sự tàn nhẫn mà số phận đã buộc những con người vô tội này phải chịu đựng, chỉ vì họ mong mỏi có được một cuộc sống tốt đẹp hơn tại đất nước này.
“Chúng tôi bày tỏ sự thương tiếc những người đã thiệt mạng trong thảm kịch và xin chia buồn với gia đình các nạn nhân ở phương xa”, ông Johnson viết, nói thêm rằng chính phủ Anh “quyết tâm sẽ làm mọi thứ trong quyền hạn để buộc thủ phạm phải đối diện công lý”.
Khi được hỏi có bao nhiêu người gốc Việt đang sinh sống ở London, bà Anh Đào Carrick nói rằng “có khoảng 100 nghìn người”, và nhập cư lậu là “một vấn đề được cả chính phủ Anh và Việt Nam rất quan tâm”.
“Mình là tổ chức của người Việt thì mình hướng tới tất cả mọi người, kể cả những người nhập cư trái phép cũng như là những người chính thống sang bên này. Đối với những người nhập cư trái phép, mình có những cái chương trình như tuyên truyền rồi hướng dẫn họ các thủ tục pháp lý”, bà Anh nói.
Theo phúc trình công bố trong tháng này, chính phủ Anh nói rằng Việt Nam đứng thứ hai sau Albania về nơi xuất phát của các “nô lệ thời hiện đại” ở Anh.
Trong một bài được nhiều tờ báo đăng tải hồi tháng Chín, Đại sứ Anh tại Việt Nam Gareth Ward viết: “Những người Việt Nam di cư trái phép sang Anh là họ lựa chọn ra đi với mong ước về một mức thu nhập có thể trả nợ và nuôi sống gia đình.
Nhưng họ không lường được rằng, ở mảnh đất bên kia địa cầu, nếu họ chỉ là lao động trái phép, họ chính là những ‘nô lệ thời hiện đại’”, ông Ward viết thêm.
