TREASURE HUNTING on Oak Island, Nova Scotia | BUCKET LIST SUMMER
Oak Island is an island in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, famous for the centuries-long treasure hunt that has taken place there. There are many theories about what might be hidden there, from Templar treasures to the Ark of the Covenant. The search is currently being done by a team led by the Lagina brothers from Michigan and is documented on the History Channel show, The Curse of Oak Island.
Through the Friends of Oak Island Society, my parents and I were lucky enough to get tickets for a guided tour of the island with Charles Barkhouse, the show's historian. We saw many of their search areas such as the Swamp, the Money Pit, 10-X, and Smith's Cove.

The Introductory Course is held every second month of the year (or less) for a total of one month, beginning in January. It is comprised of eight classes, held Monday and Wednesday night from 7:30pm to 9:00pm. The cost of the course is $100. Once you complete the course, you will be ready to join the main AEMMA recruit class.

The Academy of European Medieval Martial Arts or AEMMA (pronounced ehma), is a historical European martial arts school focused on the research, reconstruction and resurrection of authentic medieval martial arts of all fighting styles (armed, unarmed, armoured and unarmoured), firmly based on the works of the late 14th century Friulian swordmaster by the name of Fiore dei Liberi, demonstrating the deadly practicality and effectiveness of the art as it applies to today's personal self-defense.
AEMMA was initially created in May of 1998 in Toronto, Canada and under the laws of Ontario's Corporations Act and the Regulations of the Ministry of the Attorney General, was incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation (NPO Corporation Number: 1468524) in May 28, 2001. It has as its mission:
The mission of AEMMA is to resurrect the combat skills, philosophies and principles of an accomplished European Medieval martial artist and to achieve a state which would be consistent with that of a medieval warrior in both technology and ideal.
Apart from its founding Toronto chapter, AEMMA also has 4 vibrant chapters in Guelph, Stratford, and Ottawa Ontario, and Digby Nova Scotia.

Every year, Doris Eaton and her rug hooking friends come to Annapolis Royal for a weekend. It has become an annual tradition that for one day they hook with the hookers from Smith's Cove who prepare a wonderful pot-luck luncheon for their guests. We were fortunate to host these fun-loving groups at the Moose River Rug Hooking Studio.
