This week on Big Escapes, we show you some fun-filled ways to get in the water and make a splash. Join us as Heidi shows us a wakeboarding oasis, I get on board a private charter cruise through the Sydney Harbour, and Nina carves out the waterways in the Gold Coast on a jet ski safari. But first up, we meet a passionate crew who love to surf and teach newbies how to hang ten.
Today, we're at the beautifully iconic Bondi Beach. We're gonna give surfing a go at Let's Go Surfing, where they claim it'll take one wave to get you hooked.
We aim to change lives one wave at a time. We strive for excellence. All our coaches are resilient. They're hardy. They love surfing and it's all about transmitting joy, our fun to the clients. So for us, it's getting in the water with them and showing them how to do something that we love, and hopefully, they start loving it too.
We have different programs here. The main lessons that we do are beginner lessons so that's just basic. You don't even have to know how to swim. You only go waist-deep so it's really safe. We strive on safety. Then if you have experience, we cater for intermediate, advanced. We do hard board lessons all the way from 5-year-olds to 70-year-olds.

Heidi: I have found the best of attraction for thrill-seekers out there. This is the Gold Coast Wake Park. Let's have some fun.
The wake park was sort of a dream of mine about, wow, in 2009, so 8 years ago. I was living in Florida as a professional wakeboarder and I wanted to build a world-class facility on the Gold Coast - I'm from Melbourne but love the Gold Coast - and so just started putting the steps in place. Since then, about three years ago, I found this site and I just started working towards it, and here we are.
We really wanted to make the Gold Coast Wake Park a destination for the whole family to come and, obviously, the kids, the parents, whoever wants to have a ride. But for anybody who doesn't feel like riding, we've got a really nice cafe and restaurant, a chef on hand to make really nice meals and all that sort of thing. So somewhere where a family could come for the whole day and chill out, relax on the grass, watch some activity.
If you wanna make a splash in Sydney Harbour, then why not jump up off the deck of a Rock Fish Travel's private boat cruise? Today, we're out with the Rock Fish crew on one of their catamarans, having a little cruise around the infamous Sydney Harbour. We're gonna have a barbeque, have a bit of a swim, and enjoy the company of some beautiful backpackers.
Basically, we're on a catamaran today, Rock Fish 1. We've got two boats. We're on a backpacker cruise today so we get backpackers from wherever they come from and have a bit of a party, introduce them to Sydney and what better way to do it on the Sydney Harbour. So good here. There are all different kinds of parties, corporate events, Christmas parties, birthday parties, everything. There's so many different people coming together. It's so much fun.
You need to get in touch with these guys. They are so friendly and fun. You'll get on board and feel like you've instantly made a friend.
So we're here on the Gold Coast at Mariner's Cove, and it's a beautiful day. Today, we're checking out Jet Ski Safaris. You don't need a license and it's fun for anyone at any age.
Jet Ski Safaris is all about the ultimate adventure here on the Gold Coast. We take you places we've explored with our mates in the narrow tidal passages, trawl mangroves. We go where no other boat tour can go.
You can always expect the unexpected out there as we come across a very wide range of wildlife on most tours. We always throw in a stop on South Stradbroke Island as well, with a nice little tropical bar. We can have breakfast, lunch, or just have a refreshment break before making our way on back.

Surfers lap up massive swells that forced closure of Gold and Sunshine Coast beaches
Wild surf whipped up by ex-Tropical Cyclone Winston has inflicted dislocated shoulders, broken bones and other serious injuries, leading to the closure of all Gold Coast and most Sunshine Coast beaches. Lifesavers treated a suspected spinal injury at Noosa Heads on the Sunshine Coast this afternoon, Surf Life Saving Queensland (SLSQ) tweeted.
It was one many injures they have seen over the past few days, with a woman breaking her leg in surf on the Gold Coast's Main Beach yesterday, and Sunshine Coast lifeguards recording six dislocated shoulders, seven back- and neck-related injuries, and a fractured leg. As four-metre swell continued to pound the coast today, SLSQ announced that Gold Coast beaches will remain closed tomorrow.
The continuing powerful and dangerous surf conditions prompted the decision, SLSQ Gold Coast coordinator Nathan Fife said. I can’t stress enough how important it is for people to stay out of the water, he said.
