My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this calling in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.
Tel Faher - Mitzpe Golani - Golani Lookout on the Golan Heights
The fiercest and decisive battle in the Six Day War to take the Golan Heights was at Tel Faher. It was a Syrian Army stronghold. A network of bunkers were built into the side of the mountain making it almost impossible to breach.
The Barak Division of the Golani Brigade attacked the site and lost over 30 soldiers in the fierce battle and eventually overran the Syrians who fled. This stopped the constant shelling and firing upon the Jewish farmers in the Hula Valley.
Today Tel Faher is called Golani Lookout and is situated on the road leading from Mount Herman to the Banias. It's a highly recommended stop to appreciate the view and what those brave soldiers did for us during the Six Day War.
It's only about an hour away from Villa Rimona Zimmers by car VillaRImona.com
Routes Uncovered: Tel Lachish
HOLY LAND UNCOVERED | Tel Lachish is located between Mt. Hebron and the Mediterranean Sea. According to the Bible, Joshua conquered the city and gave it to the Tribe of Judah. It was long-considered the most important city behind none other than Jerusalem. Our Uri Shapira has the story.

Yechezkel Laitenberg Film
Yechezkel Laitenberg, Holocaust survivor and PALMACH fighter.
Born in Poland and lived with his parents, brothers and sister in the city of Bendzin. He was 13 years old when the German Army occupied his city in early September 1939. Yechezkel captured by the Nazis and was used as a slave labor in Blechamer, a sub camp of Auschwitz. In January 1945, he was marched together with the remaining prisoners on a Death March from Auschwitz, Poland to Buchenwald, Germany (over 500 miles). On April 11, 1945 he was liberated in Buchenwald by the American Army. With a brief stay in France, he arrived in Israel on August 1945. He joined the PALMACH and together with his future wife Tziporah, they fought and served together in the PALMACH NEGEV Brigade. After the war of Independence and the creation of the state of Israel, Yechezkel and his new bride Tzipora, established a new kibbutz (Kibbutz Palmach Tzuba) located just west of Jerusalem, overlooking the main Jerusalem-Tel-Aviv road. Together they raised a beautiful family and build a great Kibbutz where they lived for almost 65 years. Since his liberation in 1945 until he passed away in 2012, Yechezkel never stop searching for his family, but with no results. Recently we were able to uncovered documents at the USHMM (and other archives in Israel) clearly showing that Yechezkel's father Berek (Bearl) Laitenberg survived the Holocaust. We also so found that he (Berek) arrived in Israel on January 1949 and lived there for over 7 years. Tragically the father and son never met. Today, December 2nd, would be Yehezkel's 89th birthday. Please raise a toast in honor of this amazing man.
If you know of any Laitenberg family, please contact Katharine or Avi at the Foundation for Holocaust Education Projects (holocausteducationprojects@gmail.com)
