Kashmir Great Lakes Trek 2018
Kashmir Great Lakes is the prettiest trek in India. Some treks come close to it, but at the end of the day, it is always the Kashmir Great Lakes (KGL) that is our most beautiful trek.
It is not on every trek that you get to see five beautiful alpine lakes. Vishansar Lake, Krishansar Lake, Gadsar Lake, Gangabal Lake, Nundkol Lake. Each lake competing with the other in beauty that is almost divine. What’s more, these lakes come one right after the other. So everyday there is a new one to look forward to.
What makes these lakes even prettier are the snow patches that feed these lakes. You see them sliding off the mountain into the lakes. Sometimes you’ll see milky white icebergs floating on the lake’s inky blue surface.

What is even lovelier are the lush green, grassy shores of the lakes. To get a chance to go for a long walk on the shores of these lakes is pure trekking bliss.
Then there are the stunning meadows of Kashmir. They are present on each day of the trek. These meadows come in every shape and size, sometimes many in a day. On the first day, clumps of maple and pine grow like an oasis in these meadows. On the second day, they roll off a pass descending down a wide valley where horses run and sheep graze. On the third day, just below the Gadsar pass, wildflowers grow in wild abandon on these meadows. On the fourth day, the grassy plain of Satsar looks almost manicured – with a twinkling stream gliding through it.
Suffice to say, if you have not done the KGL, then you have not done the most beautiful trek in India.

โซนามาร์ค Sonamarg Kashmir India
May 2011
Sonmarg or Sonamarg is a town of Jammu and Kashmir state of India. Situated at 87 km from Srinagar, it is a popular tourist destination.[1]
Sonamarg, at an altitude of 3,000 metres above sea level, 87 km north-east of Srinagar. The drive to Sonamargh is though yet another spectacular facet of country side in Kashmir, this time in Sindh Valley. The Sindh Valley is the largest tributary of the valley of Kashmir. It is upwards of sixty miles long, and valley and deep rock-girt gorge to open grassy meadow land and village-dotted slopes.
Sonamarg, which means ' meadow of gold ' has, as its backdrop, snowy mountains against a cerulean sky. the Sindh meanders along here and abounds with trout and mahseer, snow trout can be caught in the main river.Ponies can be hired for the trip up to Thajiwas glacier a major attraction during the summer months. However, there is need for some stricter regulation to save the environment of the area from over tourism. Litters such as plastic bottles, etc., are strewn all over along the track.[2]
A breathtaking view of Himalayas from Sonamarg valley
The climate of Sonamarg is very bracing; but the rainfall is frequent though not heavy, except for two or three days at a time in July and August with fine spell in between. From Sonamarg, trekking routes lead to the Himalayan lakes of Vishansar (4084 msl), Krishnasar (3810 msl) and Gangabal Lake (3658 msl). Other lakes in the region are Gadsar Lake, stocked with snowtrout and Satsar, glacier-fed and surrounded by banks of alpine flowers.
A close by excursion is to Baltal, 15 km north of Sonamarg. This little valley lies at the foot of the Zojila, only a day's journey away from the sacred cave of Amarnath. Trekkers can also reach the starkly splendid roof-top of the world -- Leh, by crossing over the Zoji La pass.
A large number of Hindi movies have been pictured in the serene beauties of Sonamarg.

Sonamarg – Sitkari bridge – Sitkari – Nichnai – Nichnai pass – Vishnusar lake – Krishansar lake – Gadsar pass – Gadsar lake – Gadsar army camp – Satsar lake – satsar army camp – Zajibal pass – Gangabal lake – Nundkol lake – Gangabal army camp – Naranag
it was difficult for us because of no guide and no really good map of the route. but we like to explore the nature by our self - so it was a great and a bit dangerous journey especially 3rd day when we lost a way during climbing to the Gadsar pass. so it was extremely difficult but finally we did it.
