OLIVE RIDLEY SEA TURTLES DIE IN BAY OF BENGAL INDIA
Mass Death of Olive Ridleys & Leather Back Turtles at Bay Of Bengal,India petition :
NATURE DRIVE NDTI: Jan 2, 2013: Once again Olive Ridley Turtles found dead in thousands. On 10th December 2012 NDTI volunteers reported from Barunei sea beach (Near Gahirmatha), Paradip sea beach , Astaranga sea beach, Chandrabhaga sea beach and Satapada (Chilika lake) of Odisha coastal belt (Bay of Bengal) a new wave of dead Olive Ridley Turtles. * Thousands of Olive Ridley turtle corpses were found floating in areas around Paradip and stretches from Gahirmatha to Astaranga Sea beach.
We all know this Coastal Belt of Odisha, like Gahirmatha ,Astaranga Sea beach and the Rushikulya river mouth for mass nesting of the Olive Ridley Turtles and many other Turtle species from prehistorically times feeding on Jelly fish. They are part of the Oceanic flora and fauna that builds and preserves our fish stock. We have reason to suspect unnatural death of Olive Ridley turtles by external causes.
We deeply regret the man made environmental degradation of this place by increasing of traffic of trawlers and other ships, poor water quality and the pollution by some industries that mixes directly with Marine water without any proper treatment of water as required by Indian Environmental Norms. We presume that these developments are the main cause for the unusual deaths before nesting can take place.
NDTI demands action to protect the victims and punish the culprits who are directly and indirectly involved in this painful incident.
* 18-12-202 JOINT INSPECTION WAS HELD AT PARADIP SEA BEACH with a Forest Range Officer and his team and our NDTI Coordinators. Already on 25 Meters we have buried 20 Turtles together with Forest Department staffs. We made the point that the cause of large scale animal death must be investigated by the Forest Department before we blame any party for this disaster. Now we have to bury the dead Turtles to prevent a possible infection of others, so our work will continue for some days.
Dead sea turtles at Paradip sea beach ( Bay Of Bengal ) - Shocking news from Paradip at the Coastal belt of Odisha ( Bay of Bengal ): Since last week thousands of sea turtles were found dead on the shoreline. Nature Drive NDTI is planning to bury the dead sea turtles on Wednesday in the sand at the beaches. We will send two of these sea turtles to the laboratory for further investigation to find the cause of their death. On first sight it seems to be caused by unhealthy water condition like increased acid levels rather than fishing activities. Whatever the reason for this massive death might be, it is very sad news for animal lovers. Dec 2012

Jayanta Das: It is our duty to clean up the periphery where we dwell. We don't want any honor for it. But we communicate the message to all our community that we should be kind enough for our creatures those who have no idea about their safety. And we have done all these things to make our surrounding free from pollution and alert all concern to be kind for our innocent creatures.
Poem :
As I stand I watch The sound
Of the unstoppable Winds,
As the cool Breeze blows
I sit and Feel the breeze
Suddenly I could see
As the sands Blow off
Lies a beautiful Turtle as it slowly
Walks off towards The beach
Mother nature Your creations
Are just adorable
Time has come
We care for them !

Specialized heavy lift vessels in Paradeep Port
A crane vessel, crane ship or floating crane is a ship with a crane specialized in lifting heavy loads. The largest crane vessels are used for offshore construction. Conventional monohulls are used, but the largest crane vessels are often catamaran or semi-submersible types as they have increased stability. On a sheerleg crane, the crane is fixed and cannot rotate, and the vessel therefore is manoeuvered to place loads.

Olive Ridley Turtles New life at Orissa Coastline
The Olive Ridley Turtle is the smallest of all marine turtles with adults measuring about 65 cm long and weighing 30-55 kg. It is widely distributed throughout the tropics. The largest nesting sites of this species are located along Bay of Bengal (Gahirmatha, Devi and Rushikulya) in eastern India and Costa Rica (Nancite and Ostional), and Mexico (La Escobilla) in the Pacifics (Valverde et al., 1998).
DPCL is constructing a deep water port on the coast to the north of the mouth of river Dhamra - some kilometres away from the mass nesting beach of Gahirmatha. This Dhamra port construction: a joint venture of Tata Steel and L&T has faced many challenges put up by the Greenpeace. As this NGO claims, dredging port activities is killing the Olive Ridley Turtles in Orissa. But true reports declare illegal fishing to be responsible for the large number of Olive Ridley Turtle casualties.
Over 150 Olive Ridley turtles found dead on Puri beach, Odisha
Close on the heels of the mass deaths of whales on a Tamil Nadu beach, over 300 Olive Ridley turtles and a dolphin were found dead along the Puri beach. Though carcasses of Olive Ridley turtles are usually washed ashore on Puri beach during winter, this was the first time such a large number of sea turtles perished in Puri.
They come in large numbers to the Odisha coast for their annual nesting.
Sources said the turtles might have been killed by trawlers operating illegally in the sea. Meanwhile, renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik has created a sand sculpture of turtles with message “Give us space to live” at Puri beach. “Today I found hundreds of dead turtles at Puri beach. I felt sad to see these turtles and never seen such a huge number of dead turtles at a beach. So, I have created some live size turtles, appealing to the government through my sand sculpture to find out the cause of death of turtles and protect these sea animals,” said Sudarsan Pattnaik.

The company aims to take a productive role in local and national development. As part of the CSR activities Tata steel provided three tourist boats to the fishermen community of Kharinasi of Gahirmatha area in the district of Kendarapara. Gahirmatha comes under the peripheral region of Dhamra Port which is a joint venture between Tata Steel and L&T.
These tourist boats are meant to provide some alternative livelihood to the fishermen community that will benefit around 30 to 40 fishermen families in the area of Dhamra Port.
It may be noted, these fishermen face hardship from November to March every year as the State Government evokes ban on fishing during this time due to mass nesting of the Olive Ridley turtles in this region.
Tata Steel, keen to improve the quality of life of the fishermen communities living in the areas surrounding Dhamara Port region, decided to provide some kind of alternative livelihood to them which is not different from their traditional livelihood.
As a measure in that direction, those tourist boats were provided to the fishermen in the area which will provide transportation to the tourists from Kharinasi to Hukitula Island.

Deck crane lifting heavy consignments at Paradip Port
A crane vessel, crane ship or floating crane is a ship with a crane specialized in lifting heavy loads. The largest crane vessels are used for offshore construction. Conventional monohulls are used, but the largest crane vessels are often catamaran or semi-submersible types as they have increased stability. On a sheerleg crane, the crane is fixed and cannot rotate, and the vessel therefore is manoeuvered to place loads.
