Cerro Brujo & Kicker rock in the Galapagos, San Cristobal Island
In this video we take a day trip to Cerro Brujo and Kicker Rock, they are only accessible by boat and take a full day to visit both by tour.
Cerro Brujo is the most beautiful and famous beach in the Galapagos islands. It's sand is extremely powdery soft and is made from dead coral. The water there is crystal clear and bright blue. There are some tidal pools and it's a great beach for swimming, snorkelling or capturing that perfect photo. There are some seals, marine iguanas and other wild life. It is a nesting ground for sea turtles and marine iguanas as well.
Kicker Rock is located 20 minutes away from Cerro Brujo by boat. Kicker Rock is the most interesting place to go snorkelling in the Galapagos. The rock is surrounded by water and has caves going through it from one side to the other. Kicker Rock stretches high out of the water and goes extremely deep, you can't swim to the bottom unless your in between the two cracks of the rock. The rock is shaped like a shoe, this is why they named it Kicker Rock. You can expect to see a wide variety of fish, galapagos sharks, white tip reef sharks, black tip reef sharks and if you are lucky it is possible to see dolphins, whales and sunfish or mola. The snorkel tour costs around $110 USD and Diving can range from $150-$190 depending on the diving company you go with.
Darwin Bay is accessible by walking or hiking from the center of town in San Cristobal. The walk only takes about 45 minutes to an hour, there are beaches along the way for swimming and you can get some great views from the top of the mountain. When you get to Darwin Bay, you climb down a bunch of steps and then you access the water from the rocks. The water there is a little cold, but it's extremely sheltered and calm and there is almost no current. You can expect to swim with turtles, marine iguanas, seals, fish and if you look closely, you will find sting rays, eagle rays and on occasion dolphins if you are lucky.
You may want to also consider taking a hike to Lo Loberia. You can take a taxi to the entrance for about $4 and from there it's an hour walk each way. There are amazing view points and you can stop and swim at the beach or snorkel there if you want. There are plenty of sea lions and birds and of course marine iguanas and other species of lizards.
This is the last island we visited in the Galapagos, we now will make our way back to San Cristobal and from there take a plane to Guayaquil. Next on our bucket list is Peru!

Hanging out with some sea lions on the beach near Puerto Baquerizo Moreno in the Galapagos Islands. La Loberia is a popular spot to go on San Cristobal Island as the snorkelling is near town, with plenty of sea lions and sea turtles usually hanging out in the water.

Galapagos Adventure HD
Spent the month of May 2014 in the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador. Toured the islands, volunteered at the Jatun Sacha reserve and met some wicked awesome people while having an absolute blast. Also made the 8 hour hike up and into Quilotoa (caldera volcano in central Ecuador)

Visiting Floreana Island in the Galapagos, Ecuador
Floreana Island (also known as Santa Maria Island) was the second island we visited on our Galapagos adventure with Galakiwi ( It is the longest inhabited island in the Galapagos, but one that is home to only 150 residents who share the island with giant tortoises, marine iguanas, sea lions, lizards, and birds.
During our time on Floreana, we made our way to the highlands to visit the Pirate and Whaler Caves, explored the coastline, and enjoyed a beautiful sunset SUP session!

Experience The Galapagos Islands
We went on an epic 11 day adventure in the Galapagos Islands with Galakiwi, and it was one of our best trips to date! We spent our days snorkeling, stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, hiking, biking, and looking at the adorable wildlife. Our evenings were spent soaking up the culture and atmosphere of the islands. It was an amazing adventure and one we won't be forgetting anytime soon!

Inside a fish tornado - Kicker Rock off San Cristóbal, Galápagos, Ecuador
Diving Kicker Rock off San Cristóbal in the Galapagos in 2013
This was my wife's and my first dive since our 4 SSI certification dives in Tablerock Lake, Missouri, and our first dive in the ocean. We got in the water and there were these millions of fish swimming in a tornado. We swam into the maelstrom and they kind of opened up around us, but then closed back up behind us, so it was like being in the eye of the storm.
I definitely got way too deep by playing with the fish and not paying attention to depth.

Galapagos Islands on a Budget
Traveling to the Galapagos Islands on a Budget is not only possible, but can turn into one of your favorite destinations. In this video I highlight some of the things I learned on our 13-day trip to the islands. We visited San Cristobal, Santa Cruz, and Isabela on a land based itinerary that I put together myself. Without the live-aboard boat, costs can be managed. I only paid 3,251 dollars for the entire trip, including airfare. Costs can vary depending on your unique choices (for example, I don’t drink alcohol, and primarily drank from free (safe) water sources throughout the island). Splitting costs with a travel partner is also key.
Check out my website (linked here) for a more in-depth discussion, and also check out the cost breakdown and lists of vendors for each leg of my trip in the descriptions for all my Galapagos videos (see the “expedition Galapagos Islands” Playlist)

Hiking the Sierra Negra Volcano in the Galapagos Islands
Hiking the Sierra Negra Volcano was one of our favorite adventures in the Galapagos Islands on our tour with Galakiwi! The volcano has the second largest caldera in the world and it is still an active volcano. The hike takes around six hours roundtrip and it was a wonderful adventure to see the wildlife and landscapes in the Galapagos.
