Galapagos Islands: Puerto Ayora
Galapagos Islands - Summer 2018 - Episode #11
Between tours and adventures, the Town of Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz Island deserves a it’s own video. Here are some sights and sounds from the most populated town in the Galapagos!
Thanks for watching! For those interested in the logistics and cost of this trip. Check out the information below.
Logistics for Santa Cruz Island stay (4 nights/5 Days)
• Hostel North Seymour, Lobo Marino y Duncan N. 258, Puerto Ayora. 4 night stay for 2 people ($221.76 total, or $110.88 each). Complimentary breakfast and water bottle re-fills included. I booked through Expedia.com. in January (5 months before my stay). Hotel North Seymour is a cash only location, so you pay when you arrive.
• Taxi from docks to hotel (10 min trip) = $2 (you can walk… I had broken luggage)
• Highlands Tour: we used a taxi which cost $45 for two people on a half day trip. This included stops at El Chato Tortoise Reserve, Los Gemelos (collapsed craters), and the Lava tunnels. The El Chato Tortoise ranch also cost $5 to enter.
• North Seymour Dive Trip with Eagle Ray Tours $230 each with Eagleray Tours ( Due to boat repairs, Eagle Ray Tours could not run the trip. They worked with Albatros Tours ( to make sure we got on another boat for the same tour.
• Bartolome Island Tour with Eagle Ray Tours ($235 each). Full day with land and snorkeling excursions.
• Food Expenses can obviously very. We had 3 breakfasts and 2 lunches included between the hotel and tours. I purchased 4 dinners, and 1 lunches for $55 combined (no Alcoholic drinks or sodas)…and maybe another $10 of other stuff like ice cream cones and the like.
• Gratuities: I spent roughly $45 tipping on tours and restaurants.
• Ferries between Islands cost $30 one way. We booked our ferry from Santa Cruz to Isabella, and from Isabella back to Santa Cruz with Eagle Ray Tours. I recommend booking your ferry passage as soon as you can as they do fill up.
Total Cost for the Santa Cruz leg of the trip:
• $737,88 (without ferries to and from the island)

First Impression of Galapagos... One of the TOP Places On Our Bucket List!
See how to travel from Guayaquil, Ecuador to #PuertoAyora on Isla Santa Cruz, #Galapagos Islands. Take note that most people spend a small fortune to visit Galapagos by taking cruises which cost well into five figures. In this series of #TravelVlogs, we’re going to show you how to do more and spend less. So BE sure to watch our entire vlog series so that you can plan out your travel activities.
Because of how far the islands are from the mainland AND the entire Galapagos cluster of islands is an archipelago of volcanic islands, food & supplies are shipped in, which contributes to higher prices. But you don’t have to spend as much as you think, which allows more travelers to check this destination off their bucket list and experience the Galapagos sooner than people imagine.
Galapagos Islands along with all of Ecuador uses USD as their currency.
Before leaving Guayaquil, we paid for a $20 transit pass at the airport that must be purchased per traveler. Upon arriving to the Seymour Airport on Isla Baltra, we had to pay the $100 Galapagos Island Fee which goes towards maintenance of the islands, conservation, protection of the animals, infrastructure and the employees doing all the work (we found this out from one of the island’s National Park Rangers.)
After going through the airport, there’s a $5 bus fee to go to the Baltra Ferry which is $1 fee to cross the Itabaca Channel. Once you cross the channel, there’s two options to head 40ish km to Puerto Ayora:
Option 1: Take the $25 Taxi which is the island’s “transport” service and is 4-door pick-up truck
Option 2: Take the bus for $5
We ended up splitting the $25 taxi fee with a couple from the Netherlands, as it’s a directional fee, not a per-person fee! SCORE!
Stay tuned for more Galapagos travel vlog vids!

North Seymour day tour - Galapagos, Ecuador
Jan 29, 2018: Day trip from Puerto Ayora to N. Seymour. Bus to north end of island to board boat. First stop was Bachas Beach (still on Isla Santa Cruz). Terrible snorkeling... yet small surf. Suspect it rarely is good visibility. Then north to Seymour for a very thorough nature hike. Almost too much for amateur birders. All in all... an over-hyped snorkel location, with an interesting yet long nature walk. Would be a good tour for $60 pp... but not worth the 155$ we paid. Worst day tour value of our 3 weeks in Ecuador.
The next day we did Isla Santa Fe... now that was some good snorkeling. Short video here...
My Galapagos Adventure
Epic Travel Tip for Visiting The Galápagos!
Galapagos Islands - Santa Cruz - Ecuador June 2015 GoPro
Amazing vacation at Galapagos Islands, Las grietas, Tortuga Bay, Playa Mansa, Playa Brava, Puerto Ayora, Los Alemanes. Can't wait to go to Santa Fe Island next time to snorkel a little bit more, hope someday in the near future. For now this was pretty much a relaxed trip.
I used GoPro Studio 2.0 (not the lastest version since I have MacOS 10.7.5 on my computer) to make this video and filmed with a GoPro Hero basic camera. A little bit shaky at times but it does the job right for a very good price.

Best time to travel to Galapagos
Somewhere in between the Pacific Ocean, laying over 600 miles off the beaches of Ecuador in South America, you can find one of the most wonderful and pristine places on the face of the Earth; The Galapagos Islands
A natural haven worth visiting at least once in a lifetime.
This archipelago has been home to some endemic species for millions of year, many of which are a result of evolution, others came floating from the mainland, and a few, like the giant tortoises, still remain a mystery of how they arrived.
For all these reasons the Galapagos Islands are rightly famous but one further reason is that because of the lack of natural predators due to the volcanic origin of the islands and their remoteness, the animals are extremely tame and without instinctual fear.
Galapagos tours most complete E-commerce
Every boat, every tour, every category, Top promos. Best service
You can literally sit down next to a sea lion on a beach or pose for a photo next to an iguana and the animals will not budge.
There are extremely few places in the world where you can get so close to the animals which in turn leads to amazing photo opportunities. Stunning landscapes, obliging animals and azure seas in the background mean that the Galapagos is also a world-class destination for photography.
So what would be the most memorable experiences in the Galapagos? What will you see that will stay with you forever?
Perhaps it will be snorkeling with curious sea lions, perhaps it will be the extraordinary quantity of wildlife at every turn, the mixture of a luxury yacht cruise and continual wildlife sightings, maybe seeing giant tortoises in the misty Santa Cruz highlands or laughing at the absurd mating rituals of the albatrosses and blue-footed boobies or perhaps just seeing your children fully engaged – for once – in the engrossing experience known as a Galapagos Cruise.

Best Snorkelling and Hiking Tours on Isla Isabela | Galapagos Islands, Ecuador
This was the perfect day to start our Galapagos Islands adventure! After playing with the cutest puppy we have ever seen - we started our snorkelling tour of Las Tinteras. This is a group of lava rocky islands located out near the harbour. We kayaked around and saw penguins, sea lions, sea turtles and so many swimming iguanas! We took off and hiked into tortoise country and saw the cutest and biggest Galapagos tortoises and ended the day watching the sunset at sea lion beach. Absolutely amazing.

Galapagos Islands Tour
For more information on the Galapagos Islands Tour with Exodus Travels:
and
I was fortunate enough to be a guest for an incredible 8 day cruise with Exodus Travels on the sail boat the Cachelote. There are a number of Galapagos Cruises in the islands but this is one of the few that actually offers a sail boat option and believe me if you are visiting the Galapagos islands you want to be on a sail boat.
I wasn't sure what to expect on a Galapagos Islands tour, everyone says the area is fantastic but I wasn't sure if it could really live up to its hype. But I must say it lived up to it and so much more. Over the 8 day cruise we visited: Santa Fe, Kicker Rock, San Cristobal, Punta Suarez, Post Office Bay, Punta Cormorant, Sullivan Bay, Genovesa, Floreana, Turtle Cove and more. Each day I wondered how the next could possible compare but each day was so incredible.
The most interesting on the Galapagos tours is that the animals are not afraid at all. As a visitor you have to be very careful not to get too close to the animals as they will walk right up to you. You do need to be wary with the sea lions, especially the male bulls who may be protecting the females. I also discovered one day that a small sea lion thought I was shooting some of the video too close and nipped me on the leg as a warning. I took the hint and moved back.
On a Galapagos Islands tour you see so many animals, including the sea lions I mentioned above, fur seals, three types of sharks, manta rays, turtles, dolphins, friggot birds, albatross, so many types of lizards and iguanas and each islands animals can be completely different.
I am so grateful to Exodus for hosting me on this Galapagos cruise, it is truly a magical place and one that I'll never forget.
