Galdhøpiggen summit (2469m) tallest mountain in Norway
Galdhøpiggen is the tallest mountain in Norway, Scandinavia and Northern Europe, at 2,469 m (8,100 ft) above sea level. It is located within the municipality of Lom (in Oppland), in the Jotunheimen mountain area.
ccess to the top of Galdhøpiggen is not especially hard: from Juvasshytta (1850 metres above sea level, 5 km from the summit) it takes about three hours up (including about 45 minutes to prepare for crossing the Styggebreen glacier), an hour at the top and about two hours back. Some days in the summer, a few hundred people reach the summit each day. Guides are needed to cross the glacier, but are available every summer morning.
Galdhøpiggen can also be hiked from the Spiterstulen lodge in Visdalen, with a technically very easy, but still somewhat strenuous climb of 1300 m — nearly 4000 ft. It takes four hours walk up, two hours down. From Spiterstulen, hikers do not have to cross the Styggebreen glacier, and hence a guide is not required. Ardent peak-baggers may count three summits on the route from Spiterstulen: Svellnose, Keilhaus topp and the summit itself. During the main season guided trips take one to the summit from Spiterstulen via the well known blue ice fall on Svellnosbreen.
At Juvasshytta there is an alpine ski resort with lift on a glacier, with top on 2200 m.a.sl, the highest in Scandinavia. It is called Galdhøpiggen Summer Ski Centre and is open from June and all the summer, when the road is open.
Galdhøpiggen had earlier been challenged for the title as the highest mountain in Norway by Glittertind, as some measurements showed Glittertind was slightly higher including the glacier at its peak.
This glacier has, however, shrunk in recent years, and Glittertind is now only 2464 m even including the glacier. Hence, the dispute has been settled in Galdhøpiggen's favour.
At the summit a small cabin has been built. In the summer soft drinks, chocolate bars, postcards and other items are sold here. Earlier the Norwegian Postal Authority had a small post office here—being the highest in Northern Europe. Galdhøpiggen is not only the highest summit in Northern Europe, it also contains two probably unbreakable horticultural records in Northern Europe, being the upper limit for Ranunculus glacialis (2370 m) and Saxifraga oppositifolia (2350 m). Since the summer might not occur at all, some years, it tells something about these flowers' adaptation to the extremely harsh climate.
On sunny days in the later part of July and August, the summit is visited by hundreds of people.

Spiterstulen - Lom - Jotunheimen - Norway
Spiterstulen is situated 1100 m (3610 ft.) above sea level on the timber line in a sheltered and luxuriant mountain valley. You will find a profusion of mountain flowers, rippling streams, old animal pits and fabled tofts, all tempting you to pleasant strolls. The meadow is a delightful playground for children.
Our tourist season lasts from about 1st of March to 1st of May and again from 20th of May until mid October.
Part of the time, Spiterstulen is an outdoor pursuits centre, the Varden Fjellskole. Also during this period guests accepting plain fare are welcome. A wide variety of rooms are available - ranging from the youth section with two-storied bunks and shared baths to small cottages with bath. We have family units in small cottages around the playground, where you can stay with the children for a reasonable price.
Norsk Fjellmuseum, Lom, Norway
A video from my visit to the Norwegian Mountain Museum in Lom in Gudbrandsdalen in Norway this summer. It's pretty dark, that's because the lighting is kept low in most of the exhibition area due to the fragility of many of the old items on display. Nothing I could do, sorry. :-) The museum focuses on two areas of interest - the mountain areas of central Norway (Rondane and Jotunheimen) and the history of mountain exploration in this country. A good museum that I recommend a visit to if you ever get the chance. :-) Centrally located in scenic Lom. :-)

Correction: Chocolate is sweet. As we knew sugar makes our brain hyperactive (might be a myth). But, it is GOD who gives us energy and strength to reach to the top and back! Praise God.

Galdhøpiggen - Hiking the tallest mountain in Northern Europe
This time, I went to Lom with my family and climbed the tallest mountain in Northern Europe: Galdhøpiggen, a 2,469 meter tall mountain.
We took the route from Juvashytta, which in contrast to Spiterstulen, is much shorter but also involves the crossing of a glacier called Styggebreen.
We set up a tent in Raubergstulen which is situated further down near the edge of the tree line: the highest elevation most trees can grow.
It was a tiring trip, but it was worth it in the end and I look forward to more mountain hiking. This is the kind of trip you need to be very prepared for! Proper footwear and clothes are needed

GALDHØPIGGEN BLIZZARD // 2017
Started the hike from Spiterstulen 0900 am. After several hours of climbing, the weather changed dramatically and forced us to return. With limited visibility and strong winds resulting in a blizzard, we reached 2275 m.

Spectaculal Zip Line in Lom, Norway
Under the bridge in the center of Lom, they tense up a Tyrolean traversing, it is called Prestfosstraversen since it goes beyond Preast waterfall in the river Bøvra. Zipline is quite spectacular with a waterfall splashing water up against you, and a river that waves directly below your feet. Here hurtling you away beyond Preast waterfall and down the river. This gives an experience, not to mention a sense of accomplishment when you stand down by Nordal Mountain and has run over the falls, greetings to people sitting on the Bakery in Lom and enjoying a coffee, run under the bridge and along the river. Although ziplines is quite spectacular, it is also quite kind so that most dare and try it. The zipline is an experience and a challenge for most people and well suited for both groups, schools and the regular tourist. The activity takes not a long time, so this is a nice little thing one can take the time almost no matter how busy you are having. During school holidays in the summer, we are open every day. Are you a group, do not hesitate to contact us to arrange another time if the hours do not fit. Meet outside the Norwegian Mountain Museum in the center of Lom.
