Places to see in ( Naples - Italy ) Galleria Borbonica
The Galleria Borbonica , is an underground cavity of Naples that extends under the hill of Pizzofalcone , near Palazzo Reale , in the San Ferdinando district . By decree of 19 February 1853 Ferdinand II of Bourbon commissioned the architect Errico Alvino a long underground tunnel that connected the Largo della Reggia (today Piazza Plebiscito) to Piazza della Vittoria , passing under the Pizzofalcone hill . A first idea of running a gallery under the hill, which had no results or concrete consequences, was elaborated by Antonio Niccolini around 1850 .
The work was part of the public works (infrastructures and not) that Ferdinand II had devised, but its true purpose was military: it had to be a quick way out (towards the sea) for the royal family in case of riots and a quick connection to the palace for soldiers quartered in the barracks of Chiaia: the Caserma della Vittoria and the Barracks of the Cavallerizza .
Alvino provided a two-lane tunnel with two sidewalks to the sides. The two outlets were in the west on Via della Pace (today via Morelli, always open in 1853 by Alvino himself), just in front of the Vittoria barracks, while in the east near the Piazza Carolina, behind the Basilica of San Francesco di Paola . The tunnel should have been called Galleria Reale and both lanes should have taken the royal names: the one leading to Chiaia was to be called Strada Regia while the one in the opposite direction Strada Regina .
The Bourbon Gallery has two entrances:
via Domenico Morelli, near Piazza dei Martiri , inside the Morelli car park.
vico del Grottone nº4, Traversa di via Gennaro Serra, near Piazza del Plebiscito , a few tens of meters above the prefecture building . This access was made in the eighteenth century to allow the wells to maintain the tanks of the ancient aqueduct, used to access the air-raid shelter during the war and then filled with debris and rubble.
via Monte di Dio n. 14, Palazzo Serra di Cassano . This access was made in the eighteenth century to allow the pozzari to perform maintenance at the cistern of the Serra di Cassano palace, used to access the air-raid shelter during the war years and later filled with debris and rubble.

Naples Review - Naples Underground, Bourbon Tunnel, Museums and more! (Day 6) - vlog
Another DAAFF (Differences, Art, Architecture, Food, Fun) review.
A rainy day leads to visiting the Galleria Borbonica (Bourbon Gallery), Napoli Sotterranea (Naples Underground), Museo Archeologico (Archaeological Museum), Golfo di Napoli (Bay of Naples), Museo Napoli Novecento (20th Century Naples Museum).
While the Bourbon Tunnel (Gallery) was probably the highlight of our trip in Naples, it was the baba (rum soaked sponge cake) from Gran Gusto that I still have cravings for when thinking of Napoli. When visiting the Galleria Borbonica, be sure to listen to your tour guide and don't take photos & videos.
The eggplant parmesan, spaghetti vongole, chicken ziti are from Antica Trattoria e Pizzeria da Donato. The 1 EUR meatballs were from Street Food Neapolis by Giordano. The amazing Neapolitan Cuoppo (fried food cup) was from Passione di Sofi.

Breathtaking adventure through the Underground Naples tunnels
Napoli Sotterranea (Underground Naples) is located 120 feet (40 meters) below the surface of the earth. A labyrinth of ancient tunnels 2,500 years old: aqueducts, sewer tunnels, rainwater cisterns, caverns, catacombs, and pre-Christian hypogea. Some tunnels are very narrow and it's necessary to use a candle to see, for this reason some passages of the route are optional. This unique experience offers a chance to explore this Italian city from a different point of view.
I would really appreciate if you could subscribe to my youtube channel ✌

This Former Secret Passage Is Now a Time Capsule of Naples' Past
Lost for decades beneath the streets of Naples, Italy, the Galleria Borbonica is a time capsule of the city's history. The system of tunnels and caverns was originally created in the 1800s as an escape route for the city's royalty. It was then abandoned until the early 1930s, when it was used as a storage facility for contraband vehicles. During World War II, it became a military hospital and bomb shelter. After the war, it was eventually sealed and forgotten until it was rediscovered in 2005. Fancy a tour?

Walking Tour of Naples Italy
Welcome to a walking tour of Naples. These are the highlights from a shore excursion that I took whilst on board the Norwegian Epic.
It included a guided tour of the streets of Naples, a visit to the Galleria Borbonica and some authentic Italian pizza.
The walking tour of Naples lasted about 3 1/2 hours, and I can recommend it if you are worried about the sun as the trip in the secret caves give you a nice reprieve from the heat.

NAPLES UNDERGROUND at Napoli Sotterranea | WWII Naples Roman Aquaduct
Today, we joined the Naples Underground tour called Napoli Sotterranea, which highlights the underground Naples, Italy.
The Napoli Underground city is a vast, ancient network that has been in operation for thousands of years. Underground Naples was built during the Greek period in the 7th century BC, when the Greeks came to the region to establish the city. Then the Roman Empire took it over, and converted underground Napoli into a web of Roman Aquaducts until the 16th century.
During WWII in Naples, residents of the city took refuge inside the Naples tunnels and created a functional Naples Underground City. The remnants of WWII still mark the underground tunnels in Napes.
It is a fascinating and unique Napoli walking tour, and we recommend you do it when you're here.
