Can Tim Handle It?
All these toys need you to turn a handle to make them work. Can Tim handle it? Yes, he can!!
From a mechanical music box that feeds a strip of paper through the mechanism when you turn the handle, to a wonderful toy with a chef making pork pies and their colleague then stacks them!
Tim then shows a spaghetti fork - turn the handle to make the prongs rotate and pick up the pasta, and then a complex Japanese toy that threads beads onto a string.
There is a toy designed by Ron Fuller, which shows a man turning a handle and making sausages, and then a mechanical demonstration called the Geneva Mechanism. Tim recalls studying this at college!
There is a tin toy showing a cat's face - turn the handle and the cat sticks out its tongue! And then a little figure sitting at a piano - turn the handle and they play a traditional French song, Frère Jacques.
We then have a toy with 2 frogs. Wind the handle, and one frog will pass a small ball into the mouth of the other frog, keep turning and the second from passes it back!
Finally, a little toy that contains 2 dice, and when you turn the handle, you roll the dice. It is called a Crap Shooter, and is apparently designed for the game of Craps - Craps is a dice game in which the players make wagers on the outcome of the roll, or a series of rolls, of a pair of dice. However when Tim turns the handle, he just gets soaked - it is a trick mechanism that contains a water pistol mechanism!
On a personal note, I recall the Children's Gallery at the Science Museum in London. It was down in the basement and there were many mechanical demonstrations where you had to turn a handle to make the machine work. That closed in 1993, so I guess I am showing my age...

SOLD!! 119.66 acre lot Grand Forks 197883
119.66 acres of agricultural land used primarily for hay and grazing cattle, with one mile of river frontage. A cross fence runs from North Fork Road to the Granby River bank divided the property into a 45 acre lot and a 74.66 acre lot. A structure on the property provides storage for hay and/or equipment. A great feature of this land is that it is self-irrigated by Jones Creek. Although the creek doesn’t run year-round it will still irrigate underground when it’s not running on the surface.
There is unlimited potential for this land. In a private and secluded spot, surrounded by beautiful mountains and bordered by the Granby River, this could be a great place to start your dream of off-grid living. Why not build a small home by the river and use the rest of the land for farming? The river bank is riprapped where necessary to prevent erosion so you can enjoy the water for years to come! With so much space you could easily generate power via wind or solar energy and enjoy this beautiful piece of land to its full potential.
