Galloway Station Museum & Travel Centre - History. Live it.
The Galloway Station Museum & Travel Centre is located in Edson Alberta, almost exactly between Edmonton and Jasper.
The region (and all of Yellowhead County for that matter) has a rich western history, incredible scenery and wildlife and back county charm that is second to none.
Produced by Christopher White from Promethean Heritage & Culture Services (prometheanservices.com).

Museum Dance Off 2 - Galloway Station Museum
Vote for us at whenyouworkatamuseum.com on April 22nd! We had so much fun making this Vance Joy-inspired video. Everything was shot on-location by amateur Michelle Pfeiffer impersonators, pseudo Shakespearian actors and failed magicians at the Galloway Station Museum and surrounding Centennial Park in Edson, Alberta, Canada. Sing along if you know the words, but try not to sing the worlds wolf! #MuseumDanceOff2

My name is Sheila Willis of Impact Tourism, the developer of the History Check App. Welcome to History Bytes, your daily dose of Alberta HIstorical Trivia. Brought to you in partnership with Belt Drive Betty Media and the Canadian Motorcycle Tourism Association.
You can Register to answer the questions for a shot to win prizes or just take the quiz to satisfy your own brain power! Either way, we are excited to see how much of Alberta’s History you really know!
Yesterday's question was:
How many ferries still operate in Alberta today?
A None
B 6
C 11
And the correct answer is B - 6.
While the current operation might not be historical, at one time ferries were THE way to get across the river in the summer months.
So when you are on your next road trip, you can bet your bottom dollar that each time you cross any bridge of length in Alberta you might be near a former ferry crossing.
In Alberta there are seven major river basins or watersheds, these of course including hundreds if not thousands of rivers that people need to cross. I couldn’t get an exact count.
Some museums have the original ferries but most have been lost to time. The Galloway Station Museum and Travel Centre in Edson provided us with stories told by 2 former ferry operators of the Rosevear Ferry. You can find that video on our History Check Facebook page.
In today’s world there are still 6 operating ferries in Alberta. They are:
The Bleriot Ferry which goes across the Red Deer River and links the two sections of the North Dinosaur Trail. It is the oldest ferry crossing in Alberta.
Crowfoot Ferry is the only ferry on Indigenous Land, that being the Siksika Reserve 146. It crosses the Bow River.
The Finnegan Ferry crosses the Red Deer River on Highway 862.
The Klondyke or Vega Ferry crosses the Athabasca River near Neerlandia.
The La Crete Ferry is the longest crossing and goes over the Peace River. This was the one ferry I have ridden and it was really cool. The scenery is spectacular.
The Shaftesbury Ferry is the oldest and smallest ferry and crosses the Peace River at Highway 740.
It is on my bucket list to say I rode all 6, because where there are ferries there is bound to be nearby history and many have campsites nearby. So the next time you are looking for a summer road trip - perhaps you can do a ferry run.
Tomorrow’s Question is:
During WWII, Chisholm Sawmills Limited at Fawcett Lake, employed
A Only Women
B Resident Men
C German POW’s
Come back tomorrow for the answer and the story that goes along with it.
Then we will load you up with the next question. Enjoy!
