The food, entertainment, staff and management were really professional at this resort. After a few hurdles our stay at the Labranda was excellent. For all of the “Hotel jockeys” (people that don’t leave the resorts) leave the resort(s) and venture out to the REAL Gambia, the people are friendly, welcoming, hospitable…. We always take chances to explore and we always return home with GREAT EXPERIENCES. The Gambia was no different. Take a chance and get a first-hand view of this beautiful country, you will not be let down. I (we) could go on and on about this country and Gambians (in a positive way) because our experience was so memorable that we are are planning our return to THE GAMBIA.

Hey Beautiful People ????
This year I was really not expecting to travel to Gambia ???????? and have as much fun as I did . My father in law , brother in law and my brother (who I met for the first time after 22 years ) crossed the Senegalese border to come and meet me and my boyfriend , for the very first time and it was magical.
We stayed on a guest house right in the middle of Serrekunda and the people were welcoming and embraced us with so much warmth . Myself and my family intend to go back and enjoy 2 more weeks sometime soon , I hope you guys can see the different aspects of Gambia through this vlog and enjoy the sightseeing as much I did. This is not my first time in Africa I went to Morocco and Egypt before but never felt like the real Africa to me . I intend to go visit my country guinea Bissau and I will soon share with you guys .
I apologise for not being a day to day vlog as I did not have the time to sit and talk through each thing .

As I mentioned in this video if you’re into wildlife (I.e. monkeys, exotic birds, cats, etc. etc.) music and socializing this is the hotel for you! The food was very satisfying, the staff was friendly and there was PLENTY to see. It took us 2-3 days to see and absorb everything on the grounds of this hotel. It may taker you longer. There is sooooooo much to see and experience.

TRAVEL THE GAMBIA / ABUKO NATURE RESERVE / TANJI BIRD / 2018
Please watch: EXPLORING TEHRAN IN LESS THAN A WEEK // 8 HIGHLIGHTS // 2018
--~--
THE GAMBIA / ABUKO NATURE RESERVE / TANJI BIRD / 2018
Abuko Nature Reserve and Tanji Bird Reserve are located in the Kombo South District in the West Coast Region in the southwest coastal area of The Gambia in West Africa.
Abuko is rare among African wildlife reserves: it's tiny, it's easy to reach and you don't need a car to go in. With amazing diversity of vegetation and animals, this well-managed reserve is one of the region's best bird-watching haunts. There are more than 250 bird species that have been recorded, but you we only saw a few. There are 5km of paths through the 106-hectare reserve. There you can watch the Nile crocodile.
Best day periods to visit is early in the morning, or latter the day, otherwise you won´t see many animals and birds.
The Tanji River Bird Reserve is an area of dunes, lagoons and woodland, and contains Bijol Island, a protected breeding ground for Caspian terns. True to name, the reserve is home to many bird species – over 300 at last count. Even if you see few birds, the place and its landscape are worth visiting.
Like Abuko, best day periods to visit is early in the morning, or latter the day, otherwise you won´t see many birds,

Why is the Gambia a hotspot for sex tourism?
The Gambia is a popular destination for sex tourism. Sex tourism attracts western tourists — primarily women — who are eager to have sex with younger men. Prostitution is illegal in The Gambia, but poverty often leads many young men and women to try and make a living as so-called bumsters. But how high is the price for a better life? DW's Edith Kimani went to The Gambia to meet with some of the young people working in the sector.

The Gambia for Beginners: with THE DEE'S
The Gambia.. the smiling coast of West Africa!! What a beautiful country with very friendly people. We had a ball in The Gambia! And we're definitely returning. Initially EVERYONE was in shock after entering Terminal 2, it was being renovated but there weren’t any under construction signs displayed, and it looked like a war zone! One by one as we entered the terminal our jaws dropped as we were all stunned by its appearance & condition, myself included! But we quickly found out what was going on. As I mentioned before, we are returning, there was just too much to see and do for us not too, plus its a very relaxing place to spend a few weeks (possibly relocate). We tried to experience ALL of The Gambia: Fathala Wildlife Reserve, The Monkey Park, Makasutu at Coral Beach and The Kairaba Beach Hotel, and a visit to every adult beverage dispenser in the area including The Calypso Bar & Restaurant ????. Enjoyyyyyyy ????????????????????????????????

The Gambia (2) - Two trips with Muhammed Sisawo - Crocodile Pool Bakau and Serekunda Market / 2018
Two trips with our Personal Driver Muhammed Sisawo. We went for the first tour to the Crocodile Pool in Bakau. There's also a museum and Muhammed told us something about the story of The Gambia and the things inside. After that, we see the Crocodiles, most of them are friendly and you can come to them and touch them. No problem, they already had food.
When we see it all, we drive to the Serekunda Market. The biggest market in The Gambia. Muhammed told us what's going on there. A very bizzy place with lots of people, noise and smells. On the market we buy some fruit.
THE GAMBIA // KUNTA KINTEH // THE VOYAGE OF NO RETURN // TRIP (2018)
Kunta Kinteh Island, formerly called James Island and St Andrew's Island, is an island in the Gambia River, 30 km from the Gambia River Barra. Fort James is located on the island. It is less than 3.2 km (2 miles) from Albreda on the river's northern bank.
As an important historical site in the West African slave trade, it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, together with related sites including Albreda, Juffureh, and Fort Bullen. Kunta Kinteh Island is suffering heavy erosion and is now approximately 1/6 of the size during the time when the fort was active. Ruins of several of the British administrative buildings (including a single cell, apparently used to house the most troublesome captives), a small jetty and a number of skeletal baobab trees remain.
Kunta Kinte, a character described in Alex Haley's book and TV series Roots, has become associated with James Island. The book states that Kunta Kinte was among 98 slaves that the slave ship Lord Ligonier brought to Annapolis, Maryland in 1767.

Street shops on Kairaba Avenue - Gambia
This video gives you an impression of the street shops & sellers between Serekunda market and Latrikunda market on Kairaba Avenue. Everywhere possible people will try to sell things, as poverty is common in this area. Everything, from food, plastics, buckets, clothes, handbags, peanuts to bananas is sold here, but look at the ground after I pass the car, someone is sleeping on the sidewalk and I almost stepped on him. Dirt and dust is everywhere, but I love walking in these streets. Pause the video here and there and see all the details of what they're selling. So colorful, friendly people despite their poverty, I like it here. So if you have any questions about this video,... post them below and I'll answer them as soon as possible. Have a nice time in the Smiling Coast of Africa!

As we stepped onto the beach of in-front of our hotel, we were caught off-guard by some friendly and talented musicians (we dubbed them The Gambian Beach Boys). They wanted to welcome us to The Gambia - Smiling coast of West Africa.
We were told that this style of music that they're playing is called Mandaig

Kotu Beach in Kotu, Gambia
A small and wonderfully welcoming African nation, the Gambia is awash with stunning palm-lined beaches and Kotu Beach is one of the most popular among visitors from the UK and across Europe. Combining the luxury and convenience of a modern beach resort with abundant opportunity for off the beaten track adventure, the sun-baked destination lies less than 15 miles from Yundum International Airport, located in the colourful Gambian capital, Banjul.
Although Koto Beach is an increasingly popular holiday destination, it has so far avoided the overdevelopment that has blighted so many exotic destinations. Planning restrictions mean that towering high rise hotels are conspicuous by their absence and instead the attractive resort of Kotu is characterised by low-rise hotel and apartment complexes, built in the traditional style. Beach bars with straw roofs are the perfect places to enjoy a tangy cocktail or cooling coconut water whilst admiring the beautiful view. The soft white sands of Kotu Beach are perfect for stretching out with a good book and soaking up some of those West African rays.
Kotu Beach is located towards the northern edge of the Gambia's beautiful coastline and is one of several beach resorts stretching south from the mighty River Gambia. Whilst it is perfectly possible to just kick back and relax during a trip to Kotu Beach, adrenaline junkies won't be disappointed either. Opportunities for water-based adventure abound - jet-skiing, deep sea diving and other high octane activities can all be arranged at Kotu Beach resort.
Most hotels are set in their own beautiful tropical gardens and the slow pace of life here makes a break in Kotu Beach the perfect choice for couples looking to escape the world for a honeymoon or romantic getaway. Kotu Beach is also popular with families and many hotels are very well equipped to meet the needs of both young children and teenagers as well as adults - some can even arrange baby sitting services for those who want to slip away for an evening safe in the knowledge that the younger family members are in safe hands. Snorkelling, swimming and fishing are good family friendly activities that can easily be arranged by most hotels in Kotu and the beautiful bird and animal life that abounds in this part of Africa will be sure to impress even the sulkiest of teens.
For many people, the Gambia is synonymous with rich wildlife and visitors to Kotu Beach will be well-placed for seeing many of the natural wonders that this African nation has to offer. The Kotu Creek wetlands run east of the Kotu Beach resort and are awash with hundreds of colourful native bird species. Bird watching safaris are a popular activity with travellers visiting the Gambia, whilst river cruises along the River Gambia provide excellent opportunities to spot hippos, crocodiles and other wetland animals at dramatically close quarters. Inland safaris are also hugely popular and lucky tourists may even be able to spot chimpanzees as well as the many smaller monkeys that leap from branch to branch overhead.
Kotu Beach is a great base for exploring the wider Gambia and hotels here are more than happy to arrange long and short excursions for guests. Local transport mainly takes the form of bone-rattling public buses and bare-bones river boats, so visitors who wish to travel a little more luxuriously would be well-advised to take trips aboard more comfortable tourist boats and buses.
It is perfectly possible to combine off the beaten track adventure with modern luxury during a break here - for example, a couple of days safari adventure can be offset with a sap treatment and a few rounds of golf at the nearby Fajara Golf Course. Kotu Beach resort boasts plenty of relaxed bars and restaurants, serving family-friendly international dishes such as pizza and pasta as well as the wonderfully spicy and flavoursome cuisine that is typical of the Gambia.
Unsurprisingly, the fish here is wonderful - caught daily by local fishermen, it's a great way to support the local economy while treating yourself to some of the freshest seafood you can imagine.
Kotu Beach resort also has a scattering of smaller shops as well as a supermarket, ideal for self-caterers and for anyone planning a picnic. Meanwhile, the local market is a colourful place to pick up local handicrafts.

Gambia, the smiling coast of Africa !
Gambia is the smallest country on the African continent. Completely surrounded by Senegal, it has a beautiful coastline of about 80 kilometers with countless beautiful beaches ! Gambia is blessed with beautiful little sleepy villages and an incredibly beautiful flora and fauna. There are also beautiful historical remnants of the English colonial past. But the most beautiful asset is the population itself. Every Gambian has a more than warm and friendly heart for its visitors !
