THE GANGHWA PEACE OBSERVATORY - DMZ SOUTH KOREA
The Ganghwa Peace Observatory - DMZ South Korea is next to the North Korean border. Ganghwa-do (do means island or district in Korean) is an island in the north-west of South Korea.
Ganghwa’s location at the mouth of the River Han makes it a very strategically important place and its northern coast along the Han River is the border between North and South Korea.
Ganghwa is a rural place, free from the ubiquitious sky scrapers and shops that you find across South Korea. This is pretty, peaceful Korea, with herons in paddy fields, misty mountains, long shadows, pine forests, hidden temples on mountain peaks.

Incheon Travel Guide - South Korea Amazing Experience
Incheon Travel Guide - South Korea Amazing Experience
Incheon also Inchon, is a city in South Korea on the coast directly to the west of Seoul. Incheon is an historically and economically significant place for Koreans. During the Korean War, the city was the site of the Incheon Landing by American forces. Today, Incheon is a metropolitan city with the population of about 2.8 million, politically independent from Seoul. Also, the city serves as a transportation hub by air and sea, with a massive harbor and the world best international airport. Several beautiful islands, such as Yeongjong Island and Ganghwa Island, are also within city limits.
Incheon has since led the economic development of Korea by opening its port to the outside world, ushering in the modernization of Korea as a center of industrialization. In 2003, the city was designated as Korea's first free economic zone. Since then, large local companies and global enterprises have increasingly invested in the Incheon Free Economic Zone, including Samsung which chose Songdo International City as its new investment destination for its bio industry.
As an international city, Incheon has held numerous large scale international conferences, such as the Incheon Global Fair & Festival in 2009. The 17th Asian Games Incheon 2014 was also held in Incheon on 19 September 2014. Incheon has established itself as a major transportation hub in northeast Asia with the Incheon International Airport and Incheon Port. The city is also home to the Green Climate Fund, an international organization addressing environmental issues.
Local service to Guro, Seoul, Cheongnyangni, Uijeongbu and Soyosan is offered by Seoul's subway Line 1. The line has 11 stations within Incheon and connects to the Incheon Subway at Bupyeong and Juan stations. Incheon Bus Terminal, located at its eponymous subway stop, offers express bus transportation to all parts of Korea. Many city bus lines offer transportation within city limits as well as to the neighboring cities of Bucheon, Gimpo, Seoul, and Siheung.
Incheon is divided into 8 districts (gu) and 2 counties (gun).

Arirang Prime-Looking out North Korea in distance with heavy mind missing family
61 years of untreated wound A record of its bitter tears of grief
The Separated
2014 marks the 61st anniversary of the Korean Armistice that left the Korean Peninsula divided in two. Arirang Prime′s The Separated tells stories of the Korean War′s last generation who now await their approaching end with their memories of home still engraved in their hearts. Kim Gap-su, a poet and a critic, and Lee Jeong-uk, a music director, go on a journey to document their stories. Tearful, fading stories of those who never left Route 48, a road that became the fleeing path for the Northern citizens during the Korean War, and the towns that they settled in recorded through literature and music.
[Part 1] A Broken Road to Home, Route 48
South Korea is the only country not allowed to send letters to North Korea. - Kim Gyeong-jae
The separated families who can no longer go home again visit the Office of Five Provinces of the North. There, Kim Gyeong-jae (age 83) tells stories of his family. He was born in Bukcheong-gun of Hamgyeongnam-do Province, but was separated from his parents and 2 siblings when he fled from the North at the age of 19. And 18 years ago, he miraculously got in touch with his younger sister through an acquaintance in China. Kim has been regularly exchanging letters and sending parcels ever since. He expresses his grief that South Korea is the only country in the world not allowed to send letters to North Korea directly. Faced with this tragic reality, Kim often searches for satellite photographs of home on the Internet or edits family photos to console his longing for his family.
Home is very close, but we can′t go. - Husband Mok Seong-gyun, and his wife Chung Jeong-im.
About half way through westbound Route 48, Aegibong Peak Observatory located in Gimpo stands tall, representing the refugees′ sorrow. From the observatory′s top, scenery of Gaepung-gun of North Korea can be seen just 1.5 km across the water. Over 200,000 refugees visit this observatory in tears every year, and Mok Seong-gyun (age 88) and his wife Chung Jeong-im (age 86) are no exceptions. They settled in Gunha-ri, Gimpo, and every Chuseok, they climb the steps of the observatory to attend an annual ceremony held in memories of home. Their hope of reuniting with their families has been fading over the unpromising years. They tell their stories as they prepare for the last moments of their lives together.
My paintings will be completed when we reunite. - A refugee artist, Lee Dong-pyo
At the Ganghwa Peace Observatory in Inha-ri, Route 48 remains broken right in front of the northern territory. An old man′s voice calling for his mother echoes from there. Born in Beokseong-gun, Hwanghae-do Province, artist Lee Dong-Pyo (age 83) burns his painting of his mother in a memorial service. He has spent his entire life painting his hometown as his motif, and on hundreds of canvases of various sizes, he paints the horrors of the K
[TRAVEL] to GANGHWA Island in Korea 2018.2.27 ~ 28 / 강화도 / 韓国 江華島 : About waiting
겨울에 떠난 강화도 여행 !
I traveled to Ganghwa island where is in Korea and also belongs to Incheon city.
You might have been heard about Ganghwa island because a K-pop cocert was held here, in Ganghwa, in March.
However, the most important thing about Ganghw is that the Ganghwa island is an island where the history of Korea has begun with Dangun. It is also a place where there are a lot of historical ruins that have suffered a lot of war.
The historical background of Ganghwa island is very meaningful from Korean standpoint. So I wanted to visit the island once in my life and I visited. If I had went to Ganghwa alone, I would visit lots of historical sites.
Anyway, I hope you guys would like to visit the island someday after seeing this video, although my video is still awkward.
Thank you ! : )

Snippets of a Day in Ganghwa Island in Incheon
As we patiently wait for the house in Ganghwa Island to be finished, our days in Ganghwa usually consist of coffee, walks, and staying warm by the fire. These are little snippets from our most recent Sunday there filmed by my husband. It was a lovely and calm Sunday with family, puppies, and coffee.
Gangwha Jeondeungsa Temple at Incheon City in Korea
설Jeondeungsa Temple contains significant architectural works, including the main building Daeungbojeon. Decorated with delicate carvings, it is a superlative example of the architecture of the mid-Joseon Dynasty. The canopy situated above the Buddha statue inside Daeungbojeon building showcases masterful workmanship. On the walls and columns of Daeungbojeon, visitors can see names of soldiers written on the walls. These soldiers fought against the French Navy and wrote their names in Jeondeungsa to pray to Buddha for good luck in war. You could read more details at
High alerts remain along inter-Korean border in Gangwon-do province, Incheon
강
Residents in Gangwon-do province near the inter-Korean border have been evacuated to outside the Civilian Control Line.
In preparation for possible larger-scale evacuation, the province is inspecting its emergency shelters.
Tourist destinations like the Cheorwon Peace Observatory and the DMZ Museum have been closed and their staff pulled out to a safer location.
Incheon Maritime Police have put a stop to all commercial fishing in waters around Yeonpyeongdo and Ganghwado islands, as well as in nearby areas.
Ferries in and out of Yeonpyeongdo remain in service, but those passing by army bases have been restricted to certain safety channels.
Why I am going to North Korea 내가 북한에 가려는 이유
In this episode I will tell you why I am going to North Korea and I will show you the border point at Ganghwa Peace Observatory in Incheon. Here you can actually see the North Korean people through the binoculars. I want to show you that there are more places from where you can see North Korea other than the DMZ / JSA Panmunjon. Next week I will upload a video about the differences between the North and South Korean language. I hope you enjoy this video, don't forget to leave a comment, like and subscribe!

Royal Tombs / KBS뉴스(News)
[Anchor Lead]
In 2013, royal tombs of the Goryeo Kingdom in the city of Kaesong in North Korea were inscribed as World Heritage. However, Goryeo tombs on Ganghwado Island were excluded. Many historians are calling for the inscription of Gangwha royal tombs as well.
[Pkg]
After a ten-minute ascent up this mountain, the tomb of Goryeo King Gojong comes into view. The burial mound measures about five to six meters, and it only has four stone figures placed in front of it. The tomb of Goryeo King Heejong, which is surrounded by a stone fence, is also unusually simple for a royal tomb.
[Soundbite] Chung Hak-soo(Research Center for Incheon History and Culture) : Royal tombs that were set up on Ganghwa when it became the capital of Goryeo Kingdom are not large, because Ganghwa served as a wartime capital.
Ganghwado Island, which used to be the capital of the Goryeo Kingdom for 39 years to protect the country from Mongolian invasions, is confirmed to have four royal tombs. Many historians are calling for including the Ganghwa royal tombs with the Goryeo royal tombs in the North Korean city of Kaesong, which were added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in 2013.
[Soundbite] Prof. Chung Kyung-il(Yanbian University, China) : Adding more relics to the World Heritage list is an important task of inter-Korean cultural heritage cooperation.
The government of Incheon City plans to officially request that the Cultural Heritage Administration inscribe the Ganghwa royal tombs with UNESCO World Heritage designation this year as part of inter-Korean cooperation. It remains to be seen if more royal tombs from the Goryeo and Joseon periods will be added to the World Cultural Heritage list.
