Gangtey monastery
Gangte gompa in the Phobjika valley, Bhutan.
Gangtey Festival

Amazing Views of Phobjikha Valley Gangtey, Bhutan
I visited Bhutan in the month of April 2018. This is a video compilation of the experiences I had in Phobjikha Valley in Gangtey, Bhutan.
Phobjikha is a U-shaped valley, which is surrounded by the irregular formation of mountains carved by the glacial action. It is also known as the Gangteng Valley, named after the Gangteng Monastery in central Bhutan where the endangered black-necked cranes visit the valley from Tibetan Plateau during the winter season. The valley is said to be home to more than 400 cranes where the villagers take good care of these birds once they migrate during the months of October till February. Infact they are known as birds of heaven as they get attracted to holy places, clockwise circling the Gangteng Monastery three times on arrival and also while returning to Tibet. This practice in Buddhism is known for getting rid of negative energy. Phobjikha is also popular for its scenic views and cultural distinctiveness. The rich biodiversity of this valley attracts 13 other global endangered species apart from the black necked cranes.
Gangtey Gompa Monastery, Bhutan
We hiked up a hill, which is difficult at 3000m, and visited Gangtey Gompa, which is one of Bhutan’s oldest temples and monasteries which has recently been extensively renovated. The temple was beautiful from the outside, but, as it was Saturday, it was closed and we could not go inside.

Gangtey to Bumthang in Bhutan - vehicles stuck in snow & guides slip
We were leaving Gangtey for Bumthang, and there had been heavy snow fall overnight which was causing chaos on the very narrow, winding road. One of the vehicles in our convoy got stuck, so our guides and driver, along with the lorry drivers whose vehicales were also stuck, came to help push the jeep. As seen on a Cox & Kings holiday (coxandkings.co.uk)
