Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Worlitz - UNESCO World Heritage Site
The UNESCO World Heritage site of the Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Worlitz is a large English garden complex, just outside the towns of Dessau and Worlitz in central Germany. Built in the late 18th century by a local aristocrat named Duke Leopold III, he was inspired by ideas of the Enlightenment, and by the magnificent sights he'd seen on his Grand Tour of Europe. Bringing these sights back to his own realm, this garden features temples to Greek and Roman gods, a Synagogue, a scale model of the Pantheon in Rome, and an erupting model of Mount Vesuvius!

The Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz is an exceptional example of landscape design and planning of the Age of the Enlightenment, the 18th century. Its diverse components - outstanding buildings, landscaped parks and gardens in the English style, and subtly modified expanses of agricultural land - serve aesthetic, educational, and economic purposes in an exemplary manner.

The Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Realm, also known as the English Grounds of Wörlitz, is one of the first and largest English parks in Germany and continental Europe. It was created in the late 18th century under the regency of Duke Leopold III of Anhalt-Dessau , returning from a Grand Tour to Italy, the Netherlands, England, France and Switzerland he had undertaken together with his friend architect Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff. Both strongly influenced by the ideals of The Enlightenment, they aimed to overcome the formal garden concept of the Baroque era in favour of a naturalistic landscape as they had seen at Stourhead Gardens and Ermenonville.Today the cultural landscape of Dessau-Wörlitz encompasses an area of 142 km2 within the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt.

Walking tour Dessau, Germany - Saxony-Anhalt
Dessau is a town in Germany on the junction of the rivers Mulde and Elbe, in the Bundesland (Federal State) of Saxony-Anhalt. Since 1 July 2007, it is part of the merged town Dessau-Roßlau. Population of Dessau proper: 77,973 (June 2006).
Dessau is situated on a floodplain where the Mulde flows into the Elbe. This causes yearly floods. The worst flood took place in the year 2002, when the Waldersee district was nearly completely flooded. The south of Dessau touches a well-wooded area called Mosigkauer Heide. The highest elevation is a 110m high former rubbish dump called Scherbelberg in the southwest of Dessau. Dessau is surrounded by numerous parks and palaces that ranks Dessau as one of the greenest towns in Germany.

Bauhaus Sites in Weimar and Dessau - UNESCO World Heritage Site
The Bauhaus, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, was a legendary college of art and design, founded in Weimar, Germany in 1919. It was started by architect Walter Gropius, who wanted to create a new design language based around his ideas of form follows function, and that simplistic design could be beautiful. Although the school was closed by the Nazis in 1933, his ideas continued to resonate across the world, making it arguably the most influential artistic house of the 20th century.

This film is a part of EPISODA, a project by reporter Peter Polter and Anat 3, the German-language TV channel of Santa Lemusa.
Far removed from world history it may be, but the fictitious island of Santa Lemusa lives its own little reality. Its inhabitants, too, want to create a picture of this planet for themselves -- and, in doing so, wish to depend not on foreign perspectives but on trustworthy Lemusan eyes. Since 2011 reporter Peter Polter has been journeying through this planet and periodically sending his «Episoda» back home to Santa Lemusa.
The «Episoda» are basically cinematic or filmic postcards, the principle of which is that they contain (with few exceptions) no cuts and, as a rule, go without no additional dubbing -- they are windows that open for just a few seconds or a few minutes. These postcards are generally accompanied by a short text by Peter Polter and also by a recipe from the region in question.
