realestatecoloradostyle.com
The Garden Park area of Canon City Colorado is mostly undiscovered by many local residence and unknown to tourists. It's not hard to see the dinosaurs around Canon City near the visitors center and near the Royal Gorge Train, but most people don't understand why they are there. According to dinosaur experts, this area had real live dinosaurs approx. 140 million years ago. The Dinosaur Depot has excellent displays including locally found fossils. Those who dare travel over Skyline Drive will not only see a birds eye view of Canon City but will also see footprints left behind by these reptiles.
To visit the Garden Park area or Red Canyon Park: From State Highway #50 (Royal Gorge Blvd) exit right onto Ash, left onto the frontage road - turn right onto Field Ave travel approx. 20 miles North. At the lumber yard stay to the right. Look for displays on the sides of the road. Watch for cattle and wildlife. Take a camera!

Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience
Pink Realty had the pleasure to interview the owner of the Dinosour Experience Zach Renolds.
THE DINO EXPERIENCE
The Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience gives kids of all ages the opportunity to experience science-focused interactive displays, full-scale dinosaur fossil casts, hands-on exhibits with real dinosaur fossils, skinned animatronic dinosaur exhibits, guided tours, and—for added family fun, value and lasting memories—a multi-story ropes course.
The Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience is owned and operated by the father and son team of David and Zach Reynolds, multi-generational Cañon City residents and longtime local area business owners with a direct family connection to some of the Lower Arkansas Valley’s most important paleontological discoveries of the Twentieth Century.
Peter Allen, Zach’s maternal grandfather, was a math and science teacher at Cañon City High School who regularly accompanied his friend, colleague and noted paleontologist Fred Kessler on digs in the greater Garden Park Fossil Area during the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s.
Zach inherited his grandfather’s fascination with science and dinosaurs, and earned a degree in geology at Western State Colorado University before pursuing a career in photojournalism. He returned to Cañon City in 2006 to join David at Reynolds Construction Company, the successful, multi-generational business that David’s father founded in 1972. Reynolds Construction completed its final job—the architecturally stunning Royal Gorge Dinosaur Experience building—in June of 2016, allowing David and Zach to create the area’s most exciting museum and interactive learning center.
Zach is joining his parents, David and Marion Reynolds in this endeavor, and is being supported by his wife, Carman, and their three children.

Explore Colorado Dinosaur Ridge
Head just 20 minutes west of Denver and you can walk in the steps of dinosaurs. It really is a trek through time at Dinosaur Ridge, just off Alameda Parkway in Morrison. Dinosaur Ridge is famous for its tracks site. There are over 320 tracks from different types of dinosaurs in a fairly small area. The tracks are easy to see and there’s even one area where you can literally walk in the footprints of dinosaurs. A hundred million years ago, instead of the ridge and foothills that are there now, the area was a flat sandy beach with rivers flowing into the ocean.
At one, about 92 million years ago, everything in Colorado was underwater. There’s proof of that with ripple marks at Dinosaur Ridge and you can also find seashells in the Morrison and Golden areas, among other spots in Colorado.
On the other side of the ridge, which is right across from the 300 million year old Red Rocks, is an area where you can see the evidence of rivers that were like braided rivers in a swamp or bog area that flowed into the ocean. You can see the stream channels, bones in boulders and rocks, and even a cross section view, or sideways view, of dinosaur footprints. The sandstone on the river side of the ridge is finer than the tracks site side.
Just a short drive away and right across from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden is the 1.5 mile Tricertops Trail. On the trail, you can climb in and out of the areas that were clay pits that have been mined. Left of the sandstone, you can see entire ecosystems from plant fossils to even some T-Rex tracks. It’s free to visit the Triceratops Trail. Just make sure you are wearing comfy shoes and clothes for the walk in and out of pits.
At Dinosaur Ridge, shuttle bus tours last 45 minutes. The tour is $4 for ages 4 and up. Entry into the exhibit hall at the visitor center is $1 for ages 4 and up. Children ages 3 and under are free for both.
Summer camps are back this year at Dinosaur Ridge. They are offered several weeks this summer. Cost is $275 for members and $300 for non-members. Yearly family memberships are $40 and individual is $25.
If you want a great hike, then head up on the Dakota Ridge Trail on top of Dinosaur Ridge. It’s about 2.2 miles from the trailhead at Dinosaur Ridge over to the parking lot near I-70. Just watch out for rattlesnakes along the top of the ridge, just like you’ll find hiking in other spots like Green Mountain and even in Red Rocks Park.
Garden of the Gods - Colorado
On August 30, 2017 we visited Garden of the Gods at Colorado Springs, Colorado where we spent a good part of the day hiking, exploring, and photographing this awesome place. We even ran into a 2014 AT thruhiker!
In the shadow of Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods is a public park and also a registered National Natural Landmark. Spend some time surrounded by 300' red sandstone rock formations in this 1,367 acre park.
Be sure and check out the dinosaur fossils at the Visitor & Nature Center. For the adventurous, there are fifteen miles of hiking trails to explore, technical rock climbing, road and mountain biking, horseback riding, jeep and segway tours.
And .... FREE admission!
Save Corral Bluffs!
This is a video of the Corral Bluffs archeological section of the Denver Formation and the K/T Boundary, which has been proposed by the El Paso Commissioners as a enduro motorcycle raceway. Corral Bluffs Alliance needs your help to prevent this environmentally, archeologically, and historically important piece of Colorado from turning into a dirt bike race track. The area is home to many Native American artifacts, Petrified Wood, and fossils from alligators, turtles, and the first mammals.
The El Paso County Park Department plans to purchase 522 acres near Colorado Springs to create a 900 acre OHV park. It would damage beautiful, unspoiled land with a minimum of 20 miles of trails for motocross, trials, and long-distance endurance races, as specified in the grant proposal. These aren't just a family out for a weekend enjoying the scenery on their motorbikes, they are racing events.
Please help us in opposing the proposed El Paso County Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Park at Corral Bluffs. To pay for this, they have applied for a grant of $320,000 from the Colorado State Trails Grant Program. An additional $275,000 would come from the fees housing developers pay for the creation of regional parks and another $275,000 would come from Colorado lottery proceeds.
The county has tentatively set 3 planning meetings for April 1, 15 and 29, all at 7 p.m., on the third floor of the county office building at 27 E. Vermijo Ave, in Colorado Springs.

Cripple Creek Colorado, United States
Cripple Creek Colorado. United States 2005.
The City of Cripple Creek is the Statutory City that is the county seat of Teller County, Colorado, United States.[6] The city population was 1189 at the 2010 United States Census. Cripple Creek is a former gold mining camp located 44 miles (71 km) southwest of Colorado Springs near the base of Pikes Peak. The Cripple Creek Historic District, which received National Historic Landmark status in 1961, includes part or all of city and includes surrounding area. The city is now a part of the Colorado Springs, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area. With many empty storefronts and picturesque homes, Cripple Creek once drew interest as a ghost town. At one point the population dropped to a few hundred, although Cripple Creek was never entirely deserted. In the 1970s and 1980s travelers on photo safari might find themselves in a beautiful decaying historic town. A few restaurants and bars catered to tourists who could pass weathered empty homes with lace curtains hanging in broken windows.
Colorado voters allowed Cripple Creek to establish legalized gambling in 1991. Cripple Creek is currently more of a gambling and tourist town than a ghost town. Casinos now occupy many historic buildings. Casino gambling has been successful in bringing revenue and vitality back into the area. It also provides funding for the State Historical Fund, administered by the Colorado Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation. In 2012, Colorado casinos produced over $104 million in tax revenue for these programs.

Three Million Year Old Petrified Forest
We left a gaggle of Harley riders to take pictures with our borrowed Ferrari and headed into the petrified forest. The forest was studied by famed horticulturalist, Luther Burbank, who lived nearby in Santa Rosa. He discovdered that over three million years ago a volcano near todays Mt. St. Helena, just seven miles away, wiped out the forest. The ash encapsulated the trees and hardened into stone.
Shelf Road (Dashcam)
We recorded on our dashcam our drive north on Shelf Road, starting from Canon City and ending in Cripple Creek, CO, on July 7th, 2019.
Sorry for the smudges on the windshield - it's old and very pitted and we haven't been able to replace it yet.
We hope this video is a useful reference!

Dinosaur, Colorado
Downtown Dinosaur, Colorado as recorded in the middle of the intersection of U.S. Highway 40 and State Highway 64 (Brontosaurus Blvd and Stegosaurus Freeway, respectively).
Dinosaur is located in Moffat County, Colorado, about 250 miles (400 kilometres) west of the state capitol in Denver.
At the time of this recording the town had a population of around 350 people. The town's original name was Artesia but was changed, in 1966, to capitalize on the nearby tourist destination of Dinosaur National Monument.
