Wilderness, South Africa
After leaving Cape Town, I headed down the coast of South Africa in a rental car. My first stop on the Garden Route of South Africa was the town of Wilderness and a guesthouse known as Wilderness Manor. Although I would have loved to have more time in Wilderness, I just had the one day to explore the area. I took advantage of the day by going on a waterfall hike along a trail called the Collared Kingfisher Trail. The trail showed just how diverse the landscapes are in South Africa. It really was a beautiful hike. Lots of birds, and lots of beautiful scenery.

We stayed at the beautiful Nima Lodge, in the heart of nature. The lodge boasts wooden finishes, an outdoor infinity pool, Swings, Fire Place and an incredible outdoor shower. (self catering)
With easy access to The Map of Africa, which is a hilltop lookout point in the shape of Africa, with views of the Indian Ocean
In the background you can see views of the Outeniqua Mountains and the Kaaimans River.
The Wilderness Natural Park, part of the sprawling Garden Route National Park, has leopards, baboons, monkeys and eagles.
If you are looking for beautiful hikes to waterfalls, paragliding, Kayaking down Kaaimans river, or just being out in nature or watching the milk-way above you. We highly recommend this beautiful location just outside of Cape Town.

Garden Route Paragliding - Map of Africa
One of the top paragliding sites In the Garden Route is Map of Africa over looking the village of Wilderness and is a popular site for tandem flying.
???? Hooked on Hiking - Half Collared Kingfisher Trail, Wilderness, Garden Route of South Africa ????
Approx 10 km hike across the river and up to the Waterfalls where you can take a cooling dip before heading back again. They were muddy this day on account of recent heavy rainfalls so we gave that a miss.
The almost eerie mist and humidity made the walk among the lush ferns and tall vegetation phenomenal. The sounds of the river tumbling over rocks below is magical.

South Africa Adventure: The Garden Route - VLOG #61
// THE GARDEN ROUTE AT IT'S BEST: Spotting Elephants and Lions at Addo National Park, Watching whales, dolphins and seals at Plettenberg Bay, Hiking the Tsitsikamma waterfall trail and close up with Zebra's in De Hoop Nature Reserve - This really is the Garden Route at it's best!
A lifelong dream came true: We visited South Africa! We were there for 12 days and really made the most out of it!! This video is the second of the three South Africa VLOGs that I made and is all about our Day 5-8 of our South African Adventure!
DAY 5: We left Stellenbosch in the morning and drove a very scenic route towards De Hoop Nature Reserve. We spotted zebra's, baboons and ostriches on the road before arriving to fantastic dunes with the best view over the Indian Ocean! We had to drive about 100km over unpaved road, but it was totally worth it! We then continued our way along the garden route towards Plettenberg Bay.
DAY 6: We woke up in Plettenberg Bay and did a 2 hour kayak trip! We were supposed to see some dolphins and seals, but weren't really around :( We therefore booked another adventure: A boat trip! We were very very lucky to find many dolphins and seals swimming and playing all around our boat and we even spotted a Bryde Whale even though it wasn't even whale season!! Pure HAPPINESS!
DAY 7: We drove from Plettenberg Bay to Tsitsikamma National Park. We hiked the mouth trail with suspension bridges over the stormsriver, followed by the 3 hour waterfall trail which was spectacular! We continued our trip to Port Elizabeth in the evening.
DAY 8: Got up early to drive to Addo Elephant National Park! An amazing one-day selfdrive safari, we spotted elephants, zebras, buffaloes and even a pack of lions!! Speechless and thankful for this experience, we finished our Gardenroute tour and are headed for the next destination: The Krugerpark!
Our South Africa adventure will continue in the Kruger National Park, but all of that you will see in the next VLOG!
Thank you for watching and I can't wait to show you part three of this awesome South African Adventure! Have you seen part one yet?
A helicopter flight over the Cape Peninsula, visiting Penguins in Boulders Beach, riding horses near giraffes and zebras in Stellenbosch: An AMAZING START of our holidays in South Africa!

Forest Hike to a Waterfall: The Giant Kingfisher Trail, Wilderness in the Garden Route South Africa
Hiking through a lush indigenous forest in South Africa's Garden Route to a stunning waterfall. The Giant Kingfisher Trail is around 7km altogether and for anybody who is reasonably fit, it's doable in about 3 hours.
Most of the way is along wooden walkways which makes it fairly easy going. There are some stairs and a river crossing, and a bit of boulder hopping is needed to reach the waterfall itself.
Actually there are 2 hikes in 1. If you go the full distance as we did, it's the Giant Kingfisher Trail, there is a shorter one that doesn't got all the way to the waterfall. That's the Half Collared Kingfisher Trail. Confused? Never mind, so were we, but go anyway, whichever trail you do it's so well worth it.
