Garden Route Trail Park | South Africa | pt1
My aim is to upload video footage of fun trails wherever I go.
I am currently living in South Africa and figured my videos could serve as a good resource to help guide more people to trails, and give one a sense of what to expect, even though video footage can be quite deceiving.
Since online guides and trail reviews are a scarce-ish resource for South African trails at the moment, I aim to change that with these videos, and motivate more people to get out on the trails and contribute to the mountain biking community.

RESET - The Garden Route Trail Park
Rebuild, Regrow, Reset. Just over 1 year after the destructive fires that swept over the Garden Route Trail Park outside Barrington in the Knysna District, the Park is ready to open its doors to riders once again. Considered one of the best Mountain Biking destinations in South Africa, the Park offers some of the best MTB Trails and Indigenous forests. It's also a perfect place to wind down, reset & re-evaluate the important things in life. Hanging with friends and enjoying the ride in beautiful surroundings.
Shot all on Location at the Garden Route Trail Park.

Garden Route Hikes - Elephant Trail
The Afro-montane Forest in Knysna had numerous hikes. The Elephant Trail(s) around Diepvalle in particular offer a network of routes beneath towering closed canopy.
Forest cycling, Knysna
A magical, mist-shrouded forest enchanted Radha and Gurjap from India.
Radha: The Knysna (pronounced nize-na) Forest in the picturesque Garden Route is a magical place. The entire town surrounds a large salt-water estuary called the Knysna Lagoon, but we wandered inland, away from the water because we wanted to experience the cool, mist-shrouded forest. And we wanted to do it astride mountain bikes!
We met Tony Cook who would be our tour guide and while we gently peddled he told us all about the wild elephants that used to roam the forest. Some local people believe that one or two still roam wild there. They're a South African legend. It's a breathtakingly beautiful place. I'm so happy I had a chance to spend some time there.
FloRuns the Garden Route
During my vacation I got to experience the beauty of the Garden Route. Of course I went out for runs. First I ran on the Eastern Head of Knysna along the Knysna Lagoon and my second run was a trail run with many stairs in the Tsitsikama National Park at the Storms River Mouth.
Our favourite MTB trail on the Garden Route: Harkerville
Harkerville Mountain Bike Route - 22.8km 500m elevation.
Garden Route (Tsitsikamma, Knysna, Wilderness) National Park, SANparks
Continuing our Knysna series! A relatively short drive from our tent at Diepwalle, we could indulge ourselves and our bikes in some more indigenous forest. But the goal of the day was the OCEAN! What a beauty!
Neither the daunting route profile nor the baboons were able to dissuade us to turn around. This trail definitely drained our Duracells, so some fitness is advised to make it a smoother ride.
If you're not into mountain biking, run it. If you can't do trail running, walk it. Crawl it, if you have too. This trail is a definite must!
Oh, and don't forget to bring your picknick blankie ;)
The other trails in our Knysna series:
- Homtini (Garden Route National Park)
- Concordia Contours (Knysna)
- Kurland (Plettenberg Bay)

South Africa Adventure: The Garden Route - VLOG #61
// THE GARDEN ROUTE AT IT'S BEST: Spotting Elephants and Lions at Addo National Park, Watching whales, dolphins and seals at Plettenberg Bay, Hiking the Tsitsikamma waterfall trail and close up with Zebra's in De Hoop Nature Reserve - This really is the Garden Route at it's best!
A lifelong dream came true: We visited South Africa! We were there for 12 days and really made the most out of it!! This video is the second of the three South Africa VLOGs that I made and is all about our Day 5-8 of our South African Adventure!
DAY 5: We left Stellenbosch in the morning and drove a very scenic route towards De Hoop Nature Reserve. We spotted zebra's, baboons and ostriches on the road before arriving to fantastic dunes with the best view over the Indian Ocean! We had to drive about 100km over unpaved road, but it was totally worth it! We then continued our way along the garden route towards Plettenberg Bay.
DAY 6: We woke up in Plettenberg Bay and did a 2 hour kayak trip! We were supposed to see some dolphins and seals, but weren't really around :( We therefore booked another adventure: A boat trip! We were very very lucky to find many dolphins and seals swimming and playing all around our boat and we even spotted a Bryde Whale even though it wasn't even whale season!! Pure HAPPINESS!
DAY 7: We drove from Plettenberg Bay to Tsitsikamma National Park. We hiked the mouth trail with suspension bridges over the stormsriver, followed by the 3 hour waterfall trail which was spectacular! We continued our trip to Port Elizabeth in the evening.
DAY 8: Got up early to drive to Addo Elephant National Park! An amazing one-day selfdrive safari, we spotted elephants, zebras, buffaloes and even a pack of lions!! Speechless and thankful for this experience, we finished our Gardenroute tour and are headed for the next destination: The Krugerpark!
Our South Africa adventure will continue in the Kruger National Park, but all of that you will see in the next VLOG!
Thank you for watching and I can't wait to show you part three of this awesome South African Adventure! Have you seen part one yet?
A helicopter flight over the Cape Peninsula, visiting Penguins in Boulders Beach, riding horses near giraffes and zebras in Stellenbosch: An AMAZING START of our holidays in South Africa!

Crazy Creek @ The Garden Route Trail Park
This is one of the trails you will ride if you decide to go to the Garden Route Trail Park which is located in the greater Knysna area, South Africa.
The park is pedal power only and has no lift system in place.
This Crazy Creek trail is a blue rated trail and is lots of fun to ride. The climbs on this trail are short and punchy, nothing very long that will burn you out.
I would suggest a good base fitness level to get the most out of riding in this park.
There is accommodation available at the trail park (Video will be released soon) bookings can be done via email.

The Mouth Trail - Tsitsikamma - Garden Route National Park
The Mouth Trail starts at Sandy Bay (next to the restaurant) and takes one along a winding boardwalk through indigenous forest to the mouth of the Storms River, the famous suspension bridge, the Storms River Mouth Cave (Khoisan Heritage Site) and to the Spirit of Tsitsikamma boat jetty. For the more energetic, the trail continues after the bridge and leads to the lookout point on the plateau. The journey to the bridge and back will take you approximately 40 minutes.

South African Adventures | Otter Trail, Tsitsikamma National Park
Otter Trail Tsitsikamma National Park 2017
THE Otter Trail... one of the coolest experiences of my life! A 20 kg pack, seaside cliffs, log cabins on the beach, dolphins, whales, friends! Need I say more? We made some friends on the Drakensberg trip, one of them named Dev, who invited us along on the 12-person Otter journey, where we made some lifelong friends while taking on an epic 5-day 45km hike! The trip to the start point was a journey in itself as we drove out of a hurricane in Cape Town, straight into massive wildfires on the Garden Route, but eventually it all worked out! Hopefully you enjoy the video, and maybe it'll even inspire you to do the trip as well!
