The Garden Festival 2008 Zadar
...by day
spokesman for the event said: Anyone who came to the first Garden Festival last June will tell you that it was a complete blast!
One thousand groovers from all over Europe descended on the beautiful village of Petrcane (near Zadar) for three days and nights of no-nonsense fun and frolics. The live stage hosted some of the finest bands to spring from the soul/dance music underground scene and the club rocked till dawn with expertly laid down beats by DJs of distinction.
Our philosophy is inspiring music and creative art and providing a meeting place for like minded people, from all walks of life. Get away from the fast life. Stop. Meditate. Share ideas and stories. Celebrate life, the moment and new experiences.
Acts and DJs to include Nightmare On Wax, Crazy P and Cubismo (all live), plus Jazzy Jeff, Unabombers, Mr Scruff, A Man Called Adam, Faith DJs (Stuart Patterson, Terry Farley, Dave Jarvis), Sean Rowley, Kwinzola, Quantic, Joe 90, Woody, Bootsy, Bobby Beige, Deep Fried Funk DJs, Qool DJ Marv and Keb Darge.
Stuart Patterson, Faith head honcho, told Club Mix: Fancy dancing outside next to the sea to the likes of The UnaBombers, Mr Scruff, A Man Called Adam and The Faith Boys where the cost of the whole weekend is less than a round in Amnesia? Yeah? Well a few of us went to the first Garden Festival in Zadar, Croatia, last year and it comes highly recommended.

Our visit Zadar travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (Croatian), top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting churches, parks, the old town, quirky neighborhoods, museums, observation points and roman ruins. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won't find in a typical Zadar tourism brochure, Zadar itinerary or Zadar, Croatia city tour also known as Zadar, Hrvatska.
10 Things to do in Zadar, Croatia Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Let's visit Zadar, Croatia together as we cover 10 of the best things to do in Zadar in this travel guide.
Our first stop was Queen Jelena Madijevka Park which has the distinction of being the oldest public park in Croatia. The park looks over the Land Gate which is the main entrance to the Old Town.
During the 16th century, the Venetians helped Zadar withstand the Turkish sieges by building a large water cistern with five wellheads, giving this square its name. These five wells were used to supply the city with water until the year 1838.
Among the ruins of the forum, you might notice there’s one particular Roman column that still stands intact. This one is called the shame post which during the Middle Ages was used to chain and humiliate people who had committed crimes.
The Church of St. Donatus sits in the middle of the Roman Forum and it dates back to the beginning of the 9th century. The church was built in the Byzantine-style in a circular shape - typical of the early medieval construction in Dalmatia. This church has seen many uses from warehouse to museum, but these days it hosts concerts.
Located right next to St. Donatus, the bell tower is actually part of St Anastasija's Cathedral. Climbing this Romanesque bell tower is not for the faint of heart, especially once you reach the spiralling metal staircase on the last floor, but if you make it, you are rewarded with views of the town and the marina.
The meal came to 32 Euros for two mains, two glasses or red wine, and two desserts. The truffle gnocchi was our favourite truffle dish in Croatia.
When it comes to sunset, there are quite a few spots to choose from. We really enjoyed the pier right across from the Roman Forum, however, the Sea Organ is another popular spot. If you do go to the Sea Organ for sunset, you can also check out the Greeting to the Sun, which is another unusual art installation.
This solar-powered work of art lights up in an array of colours once the sun goes down.
Lastly, we leave you with a few scenes of Zadar at night.
We hope you enjoyed this video and we’ll see you in the next one as we continue our travels in Croatia.

ZADAR, CROATIA: Forum, Hidden Church & More Food! | Croatia Vlog
In this Zadar, Croatia travel vlog we show you the forum in the old town of Zadar (including sights such as St Donatus Church, the roman ruins, the pillar of shame and climbing the bell tower), explore squares, find a tiny church, bid goodbye to the sea organ and return to our favourite restaurant of our Croatian trip. We also stop by Garden Lounge bar, which had a relaxing, tropical atmosphere!
Thank you for watching our Zadar, Croatia vlog. If you haven't seen our first video from Zadar, you can find it here:
After having spent a few days in the Zadar region of Croatia we highly recommend you consider Zadar for your trip, whether that be a city break, a base to explore the Istrian or North Dalmatian regions of Croatia, or as part of a larger Croatia itinerary. The old town of Zadar is incredibly picturesque, with limestone floors and pastel buildings. Currently this city appears to have hit the sweet spot of tourism: busy enough that there is plenty to do, but not as crowded as the currently more popular hotspots of Dubrovnik and Split. It is also worth noting that Zadar is quickly and easily accessible from Zadar international airport.
We loved Zadar so much that we are creating one more video on Zadar, in the hope that we can really show you why you should visit Zadar.
SAILHO SEASON2 E09: Zadar Islands – Zadar

The Travel Project: Croatia - The Birth of a Music Destination
Whatever your musical jam, Croatia can offer it, with a side helping of magnificent waterfalls, impeccable national parks, thick pine tree forests, and ocean sailing.
But where did it all begin? After all, just ten years ago, Croatia was still pretty much unchartered territory for young travellers, let alone festival goers. The war had ended a few years before, but the country, its residents and the economy, were still finding their feet. The likes of Ultra, or Dimensions, were mere twinkles in the eyes of their founding fathers.
The birth of Croatia’s music scene comes down to one man, Nick Colgan, a club promoter and former manager of UB40, who hails from Birmingham, in the UK. After first visiting Croatia in 2003 on a family holiday, Nick, together with his wife Charlotte, opened The Garden Lounge in Zadar, in 2004.
