Giuseppe Garibaldi
Giuseppe Garibaldi (Italian: [dʒuˈzɛppe ɡariˈbaldi]; July 4, 1807 – June 2, 1882) was an Italian general and politician who played a large role in the history of Italy. He is considered, with Camillo Cavour, Victor Emmanuel II and Giuseppe Mazzini, as one of Italy's fathers of the fatherland.
Garibaldi was a central figure in the Italian Risorgimento, since he personally commanded and fought in many military campaigns that led eventually to the formation of a unified Italy. He was appointed general by the provisional government of Milan in 1848, General of the Roman Republic in 1849 by the Minister of War, and led the Expedition of the Thousand on behalf and with the consent of Victor Emmanuel II.

LEADIN
Never-seen-before artifacts from the daring Mossad operation to capture the wanted Nazi, Adolf Eichmann, in Argentina have gone on show.
The Holocaust mastermind was convicted in an epic trial in Israel 50 years ago before being executed in 1962.
STORYLINE
Known as the architect of the Holocaust for his role in coordinating the Nazi genocide policy, Eichmann fled Germany after the war and assumed the name Ricardo Klement in Argentina.
He was captured by Israeli Mossad agents in an operation that remains one of the most defining episodes in the country's turbulent history, and hanged after his 1961 trial in Jerusalem.
The exhibit, which will remain on display in parliament for three weeks before moving to a Tel Aviv museum, showcases items that had been classified and stashed away for decades: the briefcase in which they carried fake license plates, the keys to Eichmann's Buenos Aires apartment on Garibaldi Street and the forged Israeli passport _ with the alias Zeev Zichroni _ his captors used to smuggle him out of Argentina.
Rafi Eitan, who headed the operation, says he identified Eichmann by searching his body for distinctive scars on his arm and stomach.

STORYLINE:
Two popular Latin American traditions were picked this week by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) as important elements of the UN's list of Intangible World Heritages.
Peru's traditional Qoyllur Riti procession, in which thousands of members of the indigenous Quechua and Aymara communities trek through the mountains of Cusco in honour of the Lord of Qoyllur Riti, was selected by the UN cultural agency for its role as the Andean world's most important religious celebration.
During a news conference Monday, Peru's Minister of Culture Susana Baca said, These wonders that we have place us high in the eyes of the world.
Every year, worshipers walk through snowy mountains to reach Lord Qoyllur Riti's sanctuary, perched at 6.3 kilometres (3.9 miles) above sea level.
This year, the colourful procession included dancers and performers and, according to custom, participants brought ice blocks as offerings to the Lord of Qoyllur Riti.
Mexicans, meanwhile, celebrated UNESCO's Special Committee decision to include mariachi music as part of the world's intangible heritage.
During a meeting held in Bali, Indonesia, the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Heritage inscribed mariachi, string music, song and trumpet within their Convention List.
Mariachi music has deep roots within Mexican culture dating from the 19th century.
Mariachi bands are often seen at Mexican weddings and parties and romantic couples are still serenaded by mariachi bands wearing traditional charro customs.
Ramon Galindo, a veteran mariachi with 30 years of experience, said being considered part of the world's culture heritage was a great pride.
A written report by UNESCO stated that mariachi is a traditional Mexican music and a fundamental element of Mexican culture.

(HD) Trams and Trolleybuses in Naples 05/04/13
Now available in 1080p HD!
Certainly one of the more vibrant electrical transport systems, the city of Naples in southern Italy sports both an extensive tram and trolleybus system to serve this bustling city of 960,000 people.
The city is one of only a few places that was able to retain its tramway system right the way through to the 21st century without closure. Like many Italian cities the introduction of the more flexible Trolleybus and Motorbus resulted in widespread reduction and eventually closure of these routes but later saw them return to working order with what became known as the 'LRT Trend' of the mid-1990s.
Trams began running in Naples in 1875 and run over 7.3 miles of the city with 3 routes in operation. The main stock run by the tram system is the AnsaldoBreda Sirio low-floor tram that was built 2002 to see off some of the older streetcars that had been running since the 1950's. The other tram type that is in operation at present is the Peter Witt Streetcar, designed to the specification of that of Cleveland Railway commissioner which became incredibly popular in the United States. Today, 30 of these CT139K streetcars continue to operate about the city, with several examples seen in the film.
Trolleybuses are also prominent in the city. The first route to be opened in Naples was in May 1940, this later being extended in 1964 to incorporate 8 routes that continue to run today. The fleet comrpises of 87 AnsaldoBreda F19 buses built between 1999 and 2000 which were used to replace the ageing 1961 Alfa Romeo buses and have the advantage of being able to run off the wires if necessary by using a seperate diesel engine. The situation in Naples where Trams and Trolleybuses run together is indeed becoming a rarity as LRT systems now start to replace the trolleybus in many cities that once had thriving systems, but for now both systems remain prominent.
Enjoy!

Bosco Verticale (Vertical Forest), Milan - Project of the Week 1/15/18
Stay on top of the Greenroof & Greenwall World by subscribing here:
The innovative LEED Gold Bosco Verticale has elevated the definition of 'green skyscraper’ to a new level. Designed by Boeri Studio, the award-winning Vertical Forest is a model for a sustainable residential building, a project for metropolitan reforestation, contributing to the regeneration of the environment and urban biodiversity. Without the implication of expanding the city upon the territory, it is a model of vertical densification of nature within the city. Due to towering heights, terrace cantilevering, and heavy plantings, Arup performed geotechnical and structural engineering studies, including wind tunnel testing. Developed by Hines, the first example of the Vertical Forest consists of two residential towers of 110 and 76 m high, situated in the center of Milan. All of the plant species were carefully selected by agronomists Laura Gatti and Emanuela Borio.
The Bosco Verticale hosts 800 trees (each measuring 3, 6 or 9 meters), 4,500 bushes, and 15,000 plants from a wide range of shrubs and floral plants distributed according to the sun exposure of each facade. In addition to evergreen species, deciduous tree specimens include beeches, yellow acacias, oaks, maples, ash trees, ferns and ivy, which were arranged on the four different façades of the two skyscrapers. A team of aerial arborists perform pruning and other maintenance tasks several times per year, both inside and out. The over 20,000 plants absorb about 10,000 kilograms of CO2 per year, and produce about 19,000 kilograms, or 42,000 pounds, of oxygen per year. The lushly planted Bosco Verticale, and its ever-evolving seasonal facades, offer residents a cool, colorful, and sustainable lifestyle and contribute dramatically to the Milan cityscape. Conceived as a prototype of the skyscrapers of the future, Stefano Boeri Architetti continues with future designs for Vertical Forests throughout the world.

Description
Odd Fellows Lodge Meeting
For the first time in Denmark, an Odd Fellows Lodge gave the public access and showed what usually happens before, during and after a traditional Lodge meeting of a 200-year-old Ethical and Humanitarian fraternal order, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.).
Evolving from the traditions of the medieval craft guilds, the first Odd Fellows emerged in England on or before the year 1700. The early lodges were first set up to protect and care for their members and communities at a time when there were still no social security services, national health insurance, service clubs and modern-day charity foundations. The aim was and still is to provide help to our members, our families and our communities in times of need, along with the goal of developing worldwide brotherhood and sisterhood, promoting universal peace and understanding, and improving personal character of its members through the ethical and humanitarian principles taught in our ancient degrees of initiation. Our branch, the “Independent Order of Odd Fellows” (I.O.O.F.), was organized on April 26, 1819, in Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A., by Thomas Wildey and four Odd Fellows from England. At a time when women were still not allowed to go to school, vote for public office or join fraternal organizations, the I.O.O.F. became the first fraternal order to officially accept women when the “Rebekahs” was founded on September 20, 1851.
GENERAL PURPOSES
- To improve and elevate the character of humankind by teaching and promoting the principles of Friendship, Love, and Truth; Faith, Hope, and Charity; and Universal Justice, as exemplified in the degrees of initiation and practiced in real life.
- To help make the world a better place to live by aiding each other in times of need and by volunteering in or organizing charitable activities and projects that would benefit the less fortunate, the children, the youth, the elderly, the community and the environment in every way possible guided by our ancient command: “to visit the sick, relieve the distress, bury the dead and educate the orphan”.
- To promote goodwill and understanding among people and nations through the principle of universal fraternity, holding the belief that all men and women regardless of race, nationality, religion, social status, gender, rank and station are brothers and sisters.
- To develop and expand a local, national and international social network for people from all walks of life - college students, professionals, retirees - dedicated to the purposes herein mentioned; ensuring genuine friendships, compassionate service for community and personal character development.
- To raise funds through membership fees, annual dues, donations, endowments, and purchase, acquire, own, rent, lease, sell, exchange, transfer and dispose properties, whether real or personal, in furtherance of the ethical, fraternal and charitable purposes; provided they show economic viability.
