Join us as we adventure in our own backyard to Garibaldi Lake.
Garibaldi Provincial Park resides within British Columbia, Canada. Some would say Garibaldi Lake is Canada's Bluest Lake, many lakes in Canada are glacier-fed but this one is nothing short of amazing. With less than ideal weather trying to attempt this hike in the early fall, we knew the mountain would challenge us quite a bit, but none of us were ready to wake up to snow the next morning.

Garibaldi Provincial Park - The Great Ranger Experience
In celebration of 100 years of BC Parks, Ranger Katy Chambers and Ranger Andy Turner want to share their Garibaldi Provincial Park experience with you. The spectacular mountain and glacier landscapes of Garibaldi were protected as one of British Columbia's first Provincial Parks in 1927. The almost 200,000 hectare park offers more than 90km of world-class hiking in the summer and fall, and exceptional ski touring opportunities throughout the winter and spring. B.C.'s park rangers keep busy by maintaining recreational opportunities while ensuring the natural features and dynamic ecosystems are protected.

PANORAMA RIDGE ???? Hiking and Camping ???? | Garibaldi Provincial Park, Whistler BC
We completed this hike in August 2019!
Total hiking time:
- Going up ~ 6.5 Hrs
- Going down ~ 3.5 Hrs

Elfin Lakes Snowshoe Trek - Garibaldi Provincial Park, BC
Elfin Lakes are two lakes in Garibaldi Provincial Park that are popular for hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, and mountain bicycling located east of Squamish, British Columbia, Canada.
Primary access to the lake is via an 11 km long trail, which gains approximately 600 metres of elevation from the trailhead. There is an overnight shelter at the lakes and campgrounds and a day-use shelter or a winter overnight shelter in Red Heather Meadows. Approximately half of the trail is in forest, while the remaining half is in alpine meadows with clear views of the surrounding mountains.
Having the choice to stay in the heated Hut at the end of the trail, Team Yeti opted to stay outside and made a sheltered compound to tent in. (with mixed results) The temperatures dipped very low in the night, and quality sleep wasn't the biggest take-away from the weekend.
Overall, it was an excellent opportunity to explore a coastal winter wonderland surrounded by a blanket of blue sky and terrific peaks.

The Chief and Shannon Falls, Squamish, BC, Canada
For Sunshine Coasters, off-coast hikes like the Chief in Squamish are doable as a day trip.
My friends and I took the early ferry from Langdale and made the 40-minute drive on highway 99 to Squamish. We parked at Shannon Falls Provincial Park and hiked to the falls before continuing on to the connecting trails and to the Chief.
The Chief has three peaks and we hiked each of them! The first two peaks have spectacular views of Howe Sound, Squamish, and beyond. The third peak is a bit in the trees but there are still some rewarding views.
We started our hike fairly early (7.50am) and we were only the second car in the parking lot. By the time we were back down at 1pm, the parking lot was full with people driving around looking for a parking spot.
Going up the trail early, the trail wasn’t busy, but on our way down, it was a constant stream of people heading up.
The hike is all uphill! Lots and lots of steps. Nature’s stair-master! Pack lots of water (at least two litres per person) and dress for the the weather. And pack loads of snacks, too!

Saturday ,September 14,2013 - Doing the Black Task hike in Garibaldi Provincial Park on a Weekend Day,during the POPULAR SUMMER MONTHS is never a good idea. As early as 8:30 AM,you'll find the parking lots full and you'll need to park on the road.The campgrounds at Taylor Meadows are overflowing,and campers will usually try and get to the Tusk early the next morning.So it was on this Saturday,lots of people on the trails and a large lineup at the Chimney,the main access to the top of the Tusk.Since there is some risk with the loose rock and the nature of the climb,it's never a good idea to have extra pressure to either climb or descend due to crowds.Having said that,it is so grand and majestic no matter where you look ,treat yourself and just go whenever you can, just be very cautious.
Garibaldi lake hike in winter, Garibaldi Provincial Park, British Columbia
We hiked up to Lesser Garibaldi lake on 30th Dec, 2011. We couldn't find any sign of the trail after Lesser Garibaldi lake (around 7km pole) due to an avalanche so we have to turn back. It was extremely cold at the top. It was a fantastic hike, only seconded to our 2011 summer adventure:

Garibaldi Provincial Park - Cheakamus Lake Hike
This relatively flat and easy 16km hike takes you through an old-growth forest of Douglas Fir, Giant Red Cedar, and Western Hemlock, and leads to the beautiful glacier-fed Cheakamus Lake. This is a perfect hike for those with small children. Overnight camping and fishing is permitted.
Hiking in Garibaldi Highlands, Squamish, British-Columbia, Canada
Just north of Squamish alongside the Sea to Sky Highway is the community of Garibaldi Highlands. Spread over hillside benches boasting great snow-capped mountain views, and distant ocean views, this area is famous for its bald eagles, world-class rock climbing and windsurfing, fishing, hiking, kayaking, golfing, boating and mountain biking.
Before the white man came to the Squamish Valley, the area was inhabited by the Squohomish tribes, who lived in North Vancouver and came to the Squamish Valley to hunt and fish. The first contact the Indians had with the white man was in 1792, when Captain George Vancouver came to Squamish to trade with the Indians near the residential area of Brackendale.
During the 1850s gold miners came in search of gold and an easier gold route to the Interior. Settlers began arriving in the area in 1889, with the majority of them being farmers relocating to the Squamish Valley. The first school was built in 1893 and the first hotel opened in 1902, on the old dock in Squamish.
Garibaldi Highlands makes a good midway stop on the Sea to Sky Highway between Vancouver and Whistler Ski Resort.
Location: The Garibaldi Highlands are located on the east side of the Sea to Sky Highway, a 7-minute drive northeast of downtown Squamish, 45 minutes north of Vancouver and 35 minutes south of the ski resort village of Whistler.

This is a hike my friends and I did on July 30th. Took us about 4 hours to get to the top, then we stopped in Garibaldi on the way back.

Panorama Ridge, Garibaldi Lake Hiking & Camping (Our Struggles)
In August 2019, my friends and I decided to challenge ourselves and go camping for the first time. We decided to visit Garibaldi Lake, an alpine lake in the Garibaldi Provincial Park famous for its turquoise color. We camped, and then hiked up to the Panorama Ridge. None of us are hikers, so this was a huge challenge to us. This is basically a video of our struggles in the wild for the first time.
----- Our Itinerary ------
We left the Rubble Creek Parking lot at 2pm and arrived at the campground around 6:30pm. Hikers usually do both the Garibaldi hike and the Panorama Ridge in the same day, but because we didn't start until the afternoon, we decided to continue the hike the next day. We woke up the next day around 6am to prepare to hike up the Panorama Ridge. We left for the Ridge at 8am, and reached summit at 12pm. By the time we returned to Garibaldi, it was almost 4pm. After having a late lunch, we headed back down, and reached the parking lot before 8pm.

Winter Camping at Garibaldi Lake
Winter camping for 48 hours in the most beautiful part of the Garibaldi Region
Garibaldi Provincial Park, British Columbia
This was a three day, two night hike from the Rubble Creek TH to Garibaldi Lake, with a day hike to Mount Price after setting up camp. Mount Price doesn't have an official trail, but shows up on my Gaia app and is decently marked until the very end. Garibaldi Lake is beautiful and I can see why it is so popular with the locals. Not sure what's up with the wooden platform campsites though.
Saturday I woke up to dodgy weather that never really improved other than the rain subsiding, but the cloud cover remained. I skipped the hike to Black Tusk and headed toward Panorama Ridge with Andrew but again, the visibility prevented us from really taking advantage of the view.
Sunday I awoke to more rain, which had subsided by the time I packed up but the sun wasn't able to break out until late afternoon, at which time I was already back at the Cheakamus Lake trail head ready to head home. (Andrew parked at Cheakamus and I parked at Rubble Creek, so that we could do a mini thru-hike.)

PANORAMA RIDGE: The Most SURREAL View anywhere around Vancouver!?
Panorama Ridge is one of several amazing hikes within Garibaldi Provincial Park, located between the towns of Squamish and Whistler. The trail to Panorama Ridge takes you up through a forest of Western Red Cedar and Douglas Fir trees, through meadows full of blooming wildflower, and provides one of the most incredible panoramic views you could wish for at the summit. For many who have done extensive hiking around Vancouver, the hike to Panorama Ridge remains a favorite year after year.
