Mount Prospect - Garter Lane Arts Centre 13th - 17th Nov 2018
Premiered at the Abbey Theatre in 1940 and adapted from the novel of the same name, Mount Prospect reveals the character of a destructive widow who uses her husband’s will to advance her own son over two children from his first marriage. A savage critique of class prejudice and the position of unmarried women in 1930’s Ireland, Mount Prospect will be directed by Arts Council Theatre Artist in Residence at Garter Lane, Jim Nolan, with Set, Sound and Graphic Design from students of the School of Humanities at WIT.
Una Troy was born in 1910 in Fermoy, Co Cork. She began her writing career under the name of Elizabeth Connor, and her novels from this period are Mount Prospect (1936) which was banned in Ireland; and Dead Star’s Light (Methuen, 1938). In 1940 she adapted Mount Prospect for the stage, winning the Shaw Prize from the Abbey Theatre, Dublin, where it was successfully produced. She continued to write for the Abbey Theatre, producing three more plays: Swans and Geese (1941), Apple A Day (1942), and Dark Road (1947). Her novel We Are Seven was adapted as the film She Didn’t Say No and premiered in 1958. The film, with Waterford’s Anna Manahan in the leading role was England’s official entry in the Brussels World Film Festival and was banned in Ireland. Beginning in the mid-fifties she published all her work as Una Troy, producing fifteen novels, published in both London and America.

Performance notes:
Interphase 3
Animated State Dance Theatre Company presents dance and spectacle in a range of traditional and non-traditional settings encouraging new audiences to view dance. For InterPhase 3 the creative process explores motion, not emotion and decentralizes the body.
The dancers interact with sonic and kinaesthetic elements whereby the sculptural quality of the human form offers a canvas or surface. The choreography interprets and embodies the sonic and visual elements in an interplay that is both mesmerising and inviting. This Animated State initiative was a collaboration between choreographer Libby Seward, Connrado de Velasco (visuals) and Mick Shanahan (sound) for Culture Night 2013 and in support of the inaugural SAW Fest.

mvestle
mvestle are a revolving line-up group, the aim is to collaborate with as many different people as possible, yielding a different set of sounds with each performance or recording. Within the core members of the group they use such equipment as home made modular synthesisers, heavily modified stringed instrument sounds and voice distorted and blurred by external effects. All new collaborators will bring something different in sound, approach or ideal to this arrangement.
Dez Link - The Corporations
The Corporations is a new project from dj and electronic artist Dez Link. Dez has been playing techno, drum and bass, break core and more recently noise as a reaction to the times we live in. the Corporations is a noise and visual project, focussing on the various elements needed for corporations to function.
ikeaboy
I built a set of new music around Konkreet Performer, a very intuitive iPad app with touch interactive graphics that can control lots of sound parameters at once, it also looks great. It completely changes how I interact with the software. I used four pages of graphics that each controlled different devices in my set that were built for that purpose. A camera sent a feed of my hands manipulating the shapes to a midi controlled video effects unit which was then connected to the projector.'
Lunacybot
Ian Fleming has been making electronic music under the name 'lunacybot' for around three years now. Music's main importance for him is as temporal transporter - its ability to immediately take you to another time, often one long forgotten by the conscious mind, is its primary significance. By combining field recordings taken around Ireland with his own guitar and synthesiser musings, Ian has attempted to bring to the forefront of his mind things learned and experienced over the course of his years on this wacky planet.
Mixile
miXile has been working in the area of ambient electronic music/sound art since 1988, has released 7 albums and regularly plays festivals around Europe as well as the usual galleries and cool spaces. In his spare time he's worked with CAST, as well as one of the driving forces behind and founders of Sonic Arts Waterford.
