2 This ancient temple stands on the top of a hill which is exactly in the center of Thiruvilwamala village. 3 Devotees climb about 50 steps to reach the temple, where they are welcomed by the small idols of Garuda posted on each side of the main gate. 4 On both the west and east sides of the temple, there are remains of two huge Gopurams. The reason behind their destruction is still not known. 5 A daily ritual procession of deities called Seeveli, is carried out on the stone carved circumambulation path of the Vilwadrinatha temple. 6 The idol of Lord Rama in the west facing shrine is a Swayambhu, which makes Vilwadrinatha, Kerala's only temple with Lord Rama’s self-born image. 7 Punarjani Guha or the cave of Punarjani near the temple is considered as a mystical site that opens up only during Guruvayur Ekadashi. 8 Every year devotees take part in Punarjani Noozhal that is crawling through the narrow passage of this cave as a significant ritual. 9 Let us know what you think about the Vilwadrinatha Temple and for more such fascinating facts, keep watching Artha channel.
