Gaspesie, Gaspe Coast, Quebec, Canada in 4K - Things to do - Part 5
In this fifth video of our trip to Quebec, Canada series, we show our favorite 4K clips from our visit to the Gaspesie, Gaspe peninsula. We took the Navigators route, or route 132, the longest highway in Quebec province. This scenic road is located along the south shore of the lower Saint Lawrence River in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region.
We mention and show places such as the towns of Kamouraska and Rimouski, Sainte-Luce coast and La Martre lighthouse.
We also discuss our thoughts and give tips on what we liked most about our travels to these areas.

Linda Sternbach-Quebec's Horizontal New Play for Light Oil in the Gaspe Peninsula
The search for commercial quantities of light oil in the Gaspe Peninsula of Eastern Canada looks promising along trend with the 2014 announced oil discovery in Galt Field by Junex. This discovery required horizontal drilling to maximize the wellbore contact with natural fractures and porosity in the previously non-commercial, Devonian-aged, Forillon Formation.Horizontal drilling is the key to commercial oil production in the Gaspe area. Millions of acres along trend of the Galt Field discovery require a re-assessment as to horizontal drilling and exploration potential. This presentation will show where new discoveries could be found in central Gaspe Peninsula, based on reprocessed 2D pre-stack PSTM seismic lines, and surface and subsurface integration of geologic data.

Gaspé, Québec: Forillon's unique environment.
At the end of the south shore of the St. Lawrence River in Québec a rocky finger of land juts into the Gulf. Here, on the cliffs of Parc National Forillon, alpine plants are found only in this region, the Rocky Mountains and High Arctic. The Park is an ideal location for French and English naturalists to study the flora and explore the waters around the Gaspé Peninsula in search of marine specimens that might prove medicinal or act as early warning signals of environmental problems. For more information visit ontopoftheworld.net and check out episode #34 in the Railways across Canada category.
The Giant Gannet Colony of the Gaspé Peninsula (Bonaventure, Quebec)
Every April, more than 100,000 northern gannets settle on Quebec's woodsy Bonaventure Island, on the Canadian province's eastern Gaspé peninsula. These migratory seabirds come together here, at the world's second-largest gannet colony, once a year in order to mate. It's a busy, noisy scene. There is a lot of beauty, too.

Since the beginning of the century, the community of New Carlisle has played an important role in communications. The arrival of the railway gives New Carlisle the largest railway infrastructure in the Gaspé Peninsula. In 1933, CHNC-AM came on stream and became the first French-language radio station east of Quebec City. In 1974, the SPEC was inaugurated and remains the only English weekly newspaper in Est-du-Québec. Québec-Téléphone, in turn, established its district office and also provides special services such as the SQ and the Canadian Coast Guard.
New Carlisle could best be known as the birthplace of René Lévesque who was the founder of Parti Québécois in 1968. He was Quebec's premier from 1976 to 1985.
