Abandoned Clasper Village Estate, Gateshead, UK | Urbex
This is a first person POV walk around the Clasper Village estate in Gateshead, Tyne & Wear. Built in the 1960s, Clasper Village was a model of modern living and design on the banks of the Tyne, sadly however this didn't seem to work out as planned.
Although 12,000 people remained on the council’s housing waiting list, leaders from Gateshead Council agreed to not carry out work on homes in Clasper Village and refused to fill properties as they became vacant.
The community and buildings in Clasper Village slowly started to decline and the Council pushed forward with their plans to regenerate the prime riverside location which is also minutes away from the A1 and Newcastle City Centre.
Gateshead Council said it would cost £3m to renovate the existing properties, but instead opted to rebuild the whole area at a cost of £2.9m, a saving £100k.

The demolition of the Chandless Housing Estate in Gateshead, is making way for a large mixed commercial and residential development in the coming years – linking to the recently completed Trinity Square. Exploration of the site through meetings with the demolition contractors and discussions with local residents, informed stop animation sequences configured for two different video installations at the Gateshead Metro Interchange and Gateshead Old Town Hall, respectively.

A Walk in Newcastle Upon Tyne England Newcastle Upon Tyne is commonly known as Newcastle.
Newcastle Upon Tyne commonly known as Newcastle is a city in Tyne and Wear, North East England, 103 miles (166 km) south of Edinburgh and 277 miles (446 km) north of London on the northern bank of the River Tyne, 8.5 mi (13.7 km) from the North Sea. Newcastle is the most populous city in the North East and forms the core of the Tyneside conurbation, the eighth-most populous urban area in the United Kingdom.[2] Newcastle is a member of the English Core Cities Group[6] and is a member of the Eurocities network of European cities. The Quayside
The Tyne Gorge, between Newcastle on the north bank and Gateshead—a separate town and borough—on the south bank, is known for a series of dramatic bridges, including the Tyne Bridge of 1928 which was built by Dorman Long of Middlesbrough, Robert Stephenson's High Level Bridge of 1849, the first road/rail bridge in the world, and the Swing Bridge of 1876.[85]
Large-scale regeneration has replaced former shipping premises with imposing new office developments; an innovative tilting bridge, the Gateshead Millennium Bridge was commissioned by Gateshead Council and has integrated the older Newcastle Quayside more closely with major cultural developments in Gateshead, including the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, the venue for the Turner Prize 2011[86] and the Norman Foster-designed The Sage Gateshead music centre. The Newcastle and Gateshead Quaysides are now a thriving, cosmopolitan area with bars, restaurants and public spaces. As a tourist promotion, Newcastle and Gateshead have linked together under the banner NewcastleGateshead, to spearhead the regeneration of the North-East. The River Tyne had the temporary Bambuco Bridge in 2008 for ten days; it was not made for walking, road or cycling, but was just a sculpture.
Newcastle was part of the county of Northumberland until 1400 when it became a county of itself, a status it retained until becoming part of Tyne and Wear in 1974. The regional nickname and dialect for people from Newcastle and the surrounding area are Geordie. Newcastle also houses Newcastle University, a member of the Russell Group, as well as Northumbria University.
The city developed around the Roman settlement Pons Aelius and was named after the castle built in 1080 by Robert Curthose, William the Conqueror's eldest son. The city grew as an important centre for the wool trade in the 14th century and later became a major coal mining area. The port developed in the 16th century and, along with the shipyards lower down the River Tyne, was amongst the world's largest shipbuilding and ship-repairing centres.
Newcastle's economy includes corporate headquarters, learning, digital technology, retail, tourism and cultural centres, from which the city contributes £13 billion towards the United Kingdom's GVA. Among its icons are Newcastle United football club and the Tyne Bridge. Since 1981 the city has hosted the Great North Run, a half marathon which attracts over 57,000 runners each year.

Street Prize - NE9 6YH - Gateshead - 21 July 2012
Today, lucky postcode NE9 6YH was announced as the winning Saturday Street Prize postcode. With three players in the winning postcode playing with one ticket each, the street was in for a £30,000 windfall. St Oswalds' teaching assistant, Janice Brophy, is celebrating the start of a long summer holiday with £10,000 spending money. Janice, 49, said, I already have a holiday to Benidorm planned with my husband Christopher and son Liam, but I'm thinking about perhaps treating us to a trip to Las Vegas. People's Postcode Lottery ambassador Judie McCourt then surprised fellow Carnforth Gardens resident, Paul Watson with another £10,000 cheque. Mr Watson, a metal worker, already has a clear idea on spending his winnings. He said, I'm going to pay off some of our mortgage, and then take a holiday with my wife Amanda and four-year-old son Lewis. Julie Smiles was the third winner in the Street Prize draw, also scooping £10,000 with her single ticket. The 48-year-old social worker said, This couldn't have come at a better time for me! The final payment for my trip to New York in September is due this week, so now I can pay off the holiday, and have enough left over for spending money!
