Gatlinburg, Tennessee is beautiful and this is my first visit here and I'll definitely be back soon. The SkyLift is an awesome open-air chairlift ride to the top of an 1,800-ft. overlook with views of the Smoky Mountains. You can take stairs to go up to the SkyBridge or just relax and chill on the SkyDeck. The Gatlinburg, TN SkyBridge was one of my favorite areas because of the view and the glass bottom panel you can walk on and see the bottom of the forest. The SkyLift Park tickets include all-day access to the SkyLift, SkyBridge, and SkyDeck. The is also a gift shop where you can buy your photos that were taken going up the SkyLift. The Gatlinburg SkyLift is one of Gatlinburg's premier attractions and you can ride it as many time as you want before closing time.

I drove through Tennessee mountain towns: Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge.
So in today’s video, we’re going to take a tour from downtown Knoxville, through the Great Smoky Mountains and into two very unique mountain towns - Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg Tennessee.
As we leave downtown we’ll cross through some mountain passes on our way into Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. It’s Saturday, November 9 at noon.
We were lucky, as the leaves seemed to be at their autumn peaks.
If I were to make a comparison to these mountain towns to other places I’ve been, I’d say Pigeon Forge is like Myrtle Beach South Carolina, but in the mountains. Pigeon Forge is basically a huge tourist trap destination.
All of Route 321 here in the far eastern corner of Tennessee crosses a big valley between mountain passes as you cross into western North Carolina and north Georgia along the Great Smoky Mountain ridges.
So we’re right in the middle of the mountains, but there’s a TON of stuff going on.
Pigeon Forge identifies as a vacation area more than a community. It’s also home to Dollywood, an amusement park founded by country crooner Dolly Parton. The place is packed full of restaurants, theme parks, mini golf, museums, shopping, arcades and other points of interest.
Now, to get to Gatlinburg, you can continue along Route 321 and you’d be there in 15 minutes. However, as you can see, traffic is a real pain. It was Veterans Day weekend, the height of fall colors, and happened to be a beautiful weekend, weather wise, with temps in the low 70s. So, everyone else wanted to get up here, too.
To avoid the crowd, we decided to take a detour over a small mountain pass into Gatlinburg, a drive that took about 15 minutes. But we were glad we did, as we came over the top of the ridge, which afforded a very unique perspective on what Gatlinburg looks like from the top of the ridge.
It may not look like it from here, but there’s a TON of people down there.
This is Gatlinburg proper. It’s not always this busy, but between June and December it is, especially on weekends. If Pigeon Forge 15 miles behind us was Myrtle Beach, this is definitely Bourbon Street. Although Gatlinburg is 1000% safer and cleaner than most Louisiana cities I’ve been to.
Gatlinburg might be many people’s favorite mountain town of all. It sits at the base of the road to the end of the Appalachian Mountains - about three hours from here is the end of the Appalachian Mountains and only 4 hours away is Atlanta.
Gatlinburg, like Pigeon Forge is only home to around 4,000 permanent residents.
There’s skiing nearby, too. Basically, if you can think of something fun you’d want to do, it’s here in Gatlinburg. Except surfing. There’s no ocean nearby.

Anakeesta Gatlinburg TN Video Tour & Things to Know Before You Go
Anakeesta in Gatlinburg offers a unique outdoor experience that the entire family will enjoy.
WHERE TO PARK:
Anakeesta is conveniently located on the main road in downtown Gatlinburg. If you are staying in a nearby hotel you can walk to the entrance, or if you prefer to drive there is a public parking next to the ticket counter and the sky lift entrance. There are also a public parking garage located across the street at Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies.
CHONDOLA & SKY LIFT:
After purchasing tickets, the adventure begins with a scenic sky lift ride up 600 feet to the top of Anakeesta Mountain. The ride takes about 10 to 15 minutes and you can choose to ride in an open chairlift or enclosed 6 person gondla cabin.
The open chairlifts have a safety bar that comes down in front of you and the gondola cabins are great for strollers and they are wheelchair accessible (the cabins are 32? wide and 49? deep).
SHOPS & FOOD:
At the top of the mountain you'll arrive at Firefly Village where you can browse the shops, grab a bite to eat and walk the memorial trail which details the 2016 wildfires that burned parts of Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and 10,000 acres of the Smoky Mountain National park.
There is plenty of seating areas and picnic tables available all with beautiful mountain views.
Insider Tip - Outside food and drinks are not permitted unless there is a specific dietary need. However, they have are reasonably priced options for food, drinks and even ice cream.
TREE HOUSE PLAYGROUND:
Kids will enjoy playing on the Anakeesta tree house playground which consists of a series of tree house buildings connects together by rope bridges and raised platforms. You can even climb a ladder up to a loft area in one of the tree houses.
There is a seating area conveniently located next to the playground so parents can sit and relax while their kids play. Bathrooms are located a short walk back down the path toward the shops.
TREETOP CANOPY WALK:
The entire family will want to experience the treetop canopy walk. During the walk you will be 40-60 feet above the forest floor as you make your way along a series of 16 hanging bridges and platforms. It's such a unique experience.
Each platform contains signage with interesting information and facts about the Smoky Mountains, local animals and nature.
Insider Tip - While most areas in Anakeesta are wheelchair accessible, the treetop canopy walk is not. It would also be difficult to push a stroller along the suspension bridges.
ZIP LINING:
Zip lining is another fun option while visiting Anakeesta, and the two side-by-side zip lines allow you to zip right next to your friends and family. There are a total of three zips and two locations where you can rappel off platforms for a controlled descent. There is an additional charge for zip lining and you can book your time online before you arrive or at the ticket counter when you arrive.
Insider Tip - Save time by completing the online waiver before you arrive, wear close toed shoes and if you have long hair pull it back into a ponytail.
LENGTH OF STAY:
Plan to spend at least 2 hours exploring all that Anakeesta has to offer and take advantage of the fact that your ticket is good all day. Meaning you can ride the sky lift up to the top of the mountain multiple times in the same day. Also, if you purchase your tickets after 3pm, you can get in free the following day.

Gatlinburg SkyBridge
A fire swept through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and into the city of Gatlinburg, Tennessee on November 28, 2016, killing 14 people and injuring 190 more. Damage caused by the fires is estimated at over $500 million. The chairlift in Gatlinburg was there for years and one of the attractions that was destroyed. They rebuilt the chairlift ride and added SkyBridge on Memorial Day 2019. It is the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in the United States at 680 feet long. I decided to take my Uncle Earl down to the Smoky Mountains and he picked SkyBridge as a place he wanted to visit. The only problem was that he is afraid of heights. He struggled a bit with the chairlift ride up, but handled the bridge just fine. The next day, he climbed up to Clingman's Dome! We did heckle him quite a bit at the bridge, but it was all in fun and we were quite proud of him.

This is just a fun video compiling a weekend trip to Gatlinburg, TN. I went last weekend with my kids and had a great time. My parents used to take me every year and it was fun to take my kids to ride some of the kinda carnival-type rides I used to ride when I was a kid that are still there and running. Beautiful countryside, which I actually appreciated as an adult. That and the moonshine ;)
