The last moments of Drummond Puddle Watch
#DrummondPuddleWatch: Why has a puddle in Newcastle become an internet sensation?
Over half a million people tuned in to watch Newcastle residents try to cross a giant puddle
By Claire Lomas, video source Periscope / Drummond Central, words agency4:12PM GMT 06 Jan 2016
Twitter has literally been taken by storm today by live footage of members of the public trying to negotiate a big puddle.
Thousands of people tuned in to watch strangers navigating the pool of water on a footpath in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
About 20,000 internet users at any one time were watching the video - which was posted on live-streaming website Periscope.

It become the most tweeted thing in Britain today and the second most tweeted thing in the world.
The footage was shared with the internet by office workers at Drummond Central, who had spent hours gazing out of their window at people using different methods to tackle the puddle.
They decided to point a camera on the footpath, in the Jesmond area, and post it online to see what reaction it would get from internet surfers.
The live-stream captured people tiptoeing through the water, dogs splashing about and walkers pushing themselves onto a nearby wall to avoid getting soaked.

One woman even took sheets of paper from her briefcase and put them on the floor so she could get past, while others brought surfboards and lilos to the scene.
A link to the video went viral, with the hashtag #DrummondPuddleWatch trending on Twitter from around 3pm.
Gareth Wood, creative head at Drummond Central, said he was amazed that there had been so much interest.
He said: We were all in the office looking out our office window and laughing at all the people jumping across. Someone said, 'why don't we put it on Periscope?'
All day it has had about 100 people viewing it when all of a sudden it sky-rocketed.

At one point, there was a dog on its own going across and it just went for it. There was also a girl that started to get her briefcase out and make stepping stones to get across.
We haven't seen anyone fall over yet but the day isn't over yet. We are definitely surprised at the reaction. I suppose this sums up what people are into in 2016.
It's just car crash TV. You don't know why you're watching it but you can't pull yourself away.
We have even had people tell us they've been watching it on the toilet because they don't want to stop watching because the next person might slip over.
There are many things on the Internet that can't be reasonably explained.
For example, who thought sending pictures of yourself would become a thing? Now everyone's doing selfies. Many years from now, people will be talking about #DrummondPuddleWatch the way Irish people talk about Italia '90 or the Moon Landing.
Well, not really.
#DrummondPuddleWatch is a Periscope stream that - as of writing, anyway - is focused on one thing. People trying to cross a puddle in Drummond, Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Sure, you might think that that's daft and you're not wrong, but it comes slowly mesmerising. It's essentially people-watching, but with a slice of Ninja Warrior thrown in to make it more interesting.
Some of the highlights have been people watching the stream deciding that bikes are cheating (obviously) and requesting more water be thrown in to make it more difficult.
Naturally, Twitter's taken #DrummondPuddleWatch to its heart.

Thug Police officer (gill bridge ave, sunderland) beats up innocent man .
270,
A man was pepper sprayed and beaten up by police simply for having a disagreement with his long term girlfriend .
No crime had been committed ,there was no disturbance , no one had called the police or asked for assistance .
The victim is an employed electrician with no criminal record who has in fact never been in a police station in his life .
The police who were on their way back to the station after buying a McDonald's , stopped for no apparent reason to investigate, nothing wrong with that in itself .
The officer from Gill bridge avenue police station then tried to ' kidnap ' the mans girlfriend by insisting he took her home , when the victim asked if he could go along with them as they were heading to the same place , among a list of other profanities he was told ' Fuck off we are not a fucking taxi service ' he was then pepper sprayed in the face while trying to walk away and beaten to a pulp with a truncheon .
The victim was later charged with assaulting the officer concerned
( AKA putting your hands up to defend yourself ) all charges were dropped at court .
