Gau Ghat in Haridwar - History, Reviews, Photos Tourist Attractions
Gau Ghat, located across Subhash Ghat, is among the sacred sites of Haridwar. This ghat got its name from those who come here to pardon the sin of slaughtering cows. In addition, the ghat is also visited by those who want to offer solace to their near and dear ones. Gau Ghat is the same ghat where the ashes of Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi were immersed. The sacred Himalayan town of Haridwar represents a living lesson on Hinduism. Located at the foot of the Shivalik Hills, the town attracts hordes of tourists and devotees from all corners of the world. Haridwar also holds significance because it stands as the gateway to the chardham, which includes Yamunotri, Gangotri, Badrinathji and Kedarnathji. Haridwar finds its mention in the ancient Hindu epics and scriptures as 'Mayapuri', Mokshadwar' and 'Gangadwar'. Geographically, it is at Haridwar where the sacred Ganga enters the northern Indian plains. During the Kumbh Mela (held at the interval of every 12 years), the population of the town swells up to millions. The next Kumbh Mela and the Ardh Kumbh Mela (held at every 6 years) are scheduled to be held in Haridwar in 2022. Today, Haridwar is seen as a mystic centre for the rejuvenation of the body, mind and soul. One among the many sacred sights of Haridwar is Gau Ghat. Just like a dip in the holy Ganges, one can experience a feeling of wellness after taking a dip in this Gau Ghat. A dip in this holy river is known to pardon the sin of slaughtering cows.

Haridwar - Ganga ghat
Har Ki Pauri : is a famous ghat on the banks of the Ganges in Haridwar in Uttarakhand state in India. This revered place is the major landmark of the holy city of Haridwar. Literally, Har means Lord Shiva who is the god according to shaivite Rishav school of Hindu theology, Ki means of and Pauri means steps. Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu are believed to have visited the Brahmakund in Har Ki Pauri in the Vedic times. There is a large footprint said to belong to Lord Vishnu on a stone wall.
It is believed that it is precise spot where the Ganges leaves the mountains and enters the plains. The ghat is on the west bank of Ganges canal through which the Ganges is diverted just to the north. Har Ki Pauri is also the area where thousands of pilgrims converge and the festivities commence during the Kumbha Mela, which takes place every twelve years, and the Ardh Kumbh Mela, which takes place every six years and the Punjabi festival of Vaisakhi, a harvest festival occurring every year in the month of April .
