Gomukh kund (Gaumukh Reservoir) is located on chittorgarh fort. Gomukh means mouth of Cow. Water flows from the cow mouth shaped point thats why it is called Gomukh. This kund is also known as ‘Tirth Raj’ of chittorgarh. Whenever pilgrims and devotees go on the tour of different hindu spiritual places, then after coming in chittorgarh, they come to gomukh kund for completion of their holy journey.
That water flows from cow mouth into the kund (Reservoir). Flowing of water remains continue 365 days, however in summer time water flow speed becomes slow. City of Pride and Honor : CHITTORGARH
The history of Chittor is one of the most stirring chapters in Indian history for it was there that the flower of Rajput chivalry sprang to life and the immense stretch of its sacred walls and ruined palaces relate the saga of innumerable Sieges and Heroism.
The capital of the erstwhile kingdom of Mewar, Chittorgarh is a land of forts, citadels, ruins, and immortal folklore of sacrifice and heroism. Located in South-Eastern Rajasthan, Chittorgarh is known for Chittorgarh Fort, the largest Fort in India which is a gigantic fort built on a hilltop, spreading over an area of around 700 acres.
Chittorgarh stands at the helm of Chattari Rajput pride and is remembered in the pages of history for its glorious battles, especially the courageous self-sacrificing Jauhar performed by RANI PADMINI to thwart the conquest of the fort by Alauddin Khilji.
Rana Kumbha Palace is the largest structure in Chittorgarh fort, and while it is now a mere tumbledown structure of broken walls and piles of stones, it was once a magnificent three-storied palace with gigantic pillars, maze-like underground tunnels and intricately designed architecture. The most famous attraction in Chittorgarh fort is the Rani Padmini Palace, named after Queen Padmini herself. Replete with roof pavilions and water moats, the story of Queen Padmini’s valour rings out loud in every corner of this dilapidated building. Other sights to visit in Chittorgarh include the Meera Temple, the Kali Mata temple, the Gaumukh reservoir, and the Bassi Wildlife Sanctuary.
At the time when most other Rajput rulers allowed themselves to be wooed the Mughals; Mewar alone held out. In 1567 Emperor Akbar decided to teach it a lesson: he attacked Chittorgarh razed it to the ground. Five years later MAHARANA PRATAP came to rule Mewar - A KING without a capital. He continued to defy Akbar, and in 1576, confronted the imperial armies at Haldighati.
The battle ended in a stalemate and Maharana Pratap and his followers withdrew to the craggy hills of Mewar, from where they continued to harrass the Mughals through guerilla warfare for the next twenty years. Maharana Pratap made his descendants vow that they would not sleep on beds, nor live in palaces, nor eat off metal utensils, until Chittorgarh had been regained.
This place has more stories than any other historical monuments in the country, take a tour of this Glorious Fort with Team India Rediscover and feel the PRIDE.
