Right out the coast of Fetiye is one of the most spectacular areas in mediterranean. Leisure aside, there is a deep history embedded in this islands ( Local businesses are in wide varieties and very mobile :) starting from as early as 7am, small boats start approaching our boat to offer food, newspaper, pastries, water sports, and even restaruant reservations to the island's only restaurant. If you can choose not to go to the restaruant, they bring it to you...
St Nicholas Island (Gemiler Island)
Join me as I take a short walk up to the top of St Nicholas Island off the coast of Turkey. Located near the City of Fethiye. On the island are the remains of several churches built between the fourth and sixth centuries AD. Archaeologists believe it was the location of the original tomb of St Nicholas.

Beautiful Gemiler beach sits in an unspoiled and secluded bay with a great view of St. Nicholas Island. It's rarely crowded. The beach is surrounded by pine and olive trees.
This is the only beach where you can do water sports like jet ski, banana or ringo.
It lies just a short way away from Ölüdeniz and can be reached by 'dolmus' (bus) ride through Hisaronu village and the Kaya valley.
The beach overlooks St. Nicholas Island (/Gemiler Island) which has the remains of several churches built between the fourth and sixth centuries AD, along with a variety of associated buildings. Archaeologists believe it was the location of the original tomb of Saint Nicholas.

Kısık Koyu ve Mağarası ile,Kısık Koyu`nun batısındaki Af Kale yörede bulunan gezi
yerleri arasında yer alır.Gemiler Koyunun hemen karşısında bulunan St.Nicholas adası
XIII yüzyılın sonlarına kadar Bizanslıların elinde kalmış daha sonrada şovalyelerin
eline geçmiştir.Adada,Kilise,Manastır,Şapel gibi dini yapıların kalıntıları vardır.
Adanın deniz kıyısında sarnıç,tepe bölümünde ise saray kalıntıları bulunmaktadır.Saray
ile aşağı kilise arasında yer alan 500 metre uzunluğundaki tünelin bazı kısımları yıkık
durumdadır.Tünel içerisinde bulunan 17 durağın,İsa`nın çarmıha gerilmeye götürüldüğü
zaman 17 defa dinlenmesini temsil ettiği söylenmektedir.Adanın üzerinde bulunan tarihi
kalıntıların bir kısmıda sular altındadır.
Muhteşem St. Nicholas Adası manzarası ile bozulmamış, güzel görünümlü bir koydur [adaya
botla ulaşıp, harabeleri görebilirsiniz]. Birkaç sade restoran mevcuttur. Ölüdeniz'den
gelinerek yüzülebilecek, şnorkelle dalınabilecek, yemek yenebilecek ve kestirilebilecek
güzel bir günübirlik gezi yeridir.

Boat trip along the Turkish coast: Ölüdeniz - Butterfly Valley - Aquarium Bay - St. Nicholas Island - Cold Spring Bay - Camel Beach.
Departure: 10:00 AM. Return: 5:00 PM.
Butterfly Valley (near Faralya village) is a remote canyon to the south, on the sea-shore, with some rare butterflies (no, I haven't seen one) and waterfall. Its name comes from a large swarm of endemic butterflies, the habitat of which is near the waterfalls on the canyon wall furthest from the sea.

Reputedly the home of Father Christmas, now uninhabited St Nicholas Island, Gemiler Bay, Turkey
Reputed to have been the home of Father Christmas, situated in Gemiler Bay, just a few kilometres from Oludeniz and the Blue Lagoon. Uninhabited and accessible by water taxi or speedboat from Gemiler Beach, which can be reached by Dolmus from Oludeniz and Fethiye. There are several church ruins on the walk to the top of the island, all dedicated to St. Nicholas. There is also a graveyard.
