One of a very few Joyful Trains that are also Shinkansen, the GENBI Shinkansen has a display of modern art in every car. It runs between Echigo-Yuzawa and Niigata on the Joetsu Shinkansen using an E3 Series Shinkansen. Climb aboard as we travel from the snowy mountains of Echigo-Yuzawa to the fields and port of Niigata.

East Japan Railway Company unveiled the world's fastest moving gallery, after they opened contemporary art exhibitions in the interior of their Genbi Shinkansen train, Monday, in the Niigata prefecture.

Joetsu Shinkansen - Max Toki Special ᴴᴰ ● 上越新幹線 MAXとき
►Here's a look at the Joetsu Shinkansen - a double decker high-speed shinkansen railway line, connecting Tokyo and Niigata. It's also known as the MAX Toki Shinkansen, and it was taken into service in 2001.
Being a mammoth among trains, it travels at relatively low speeds compared to other Shinkansen trains, with a maximum speed of 240 kmp/h (150 mp/h) It offers great views from the 2nd. floor seatings.
I filmed this traveling from Tokyo to Kumagaya in Saitama, so it's a bit of Kumagaya Station you'll see near the end of the video, not Niigata. - Enjoy!

Moving Stills : Shinkansen to Niigata : Japan 2016
When you spend time looking at a picture rather than glancing at it to extract the main features, your eye comes to rest in a peaceful place.
The Moving Stills series is an investigation into what happens when a scene is captured and presented with the technical quality of a monochrome silver print - however, the photograph is live with movement.
Something barely nothing, with your eye hunting to see if it's actually playing of frozen, then something small in the distance or a tiny butterfly, a flower moving in the breeze. Other times the movements are strong, with textured rain and vehicles large in the frame. This is an investigation into composition of a scene and of letting the scene unfold in natural motion.
Technical
Captured on our trip to Japan late 2016, with the new SONY RX100 mark V camera. I filmed on auto with default picture profile as it seemed to work best for recordings which I would turn into monochrome. Minimal grading and in some cases the recording was slowed down. Edited on a 2015 MacBook Pro (top spec) with a 6TB LaCie Thunderbolt HD attached.

新潟駅で撮影したE2系1000番台の動画です。この日は午前中に上越新幹線の停電により、多くの列車に遅れが生じました。この動画に出る列車の大半は、2時間以上遅れて新潟駅に到着したものです。そのため、同じ時間帯にE2系が3線のホームに集まる事態になりました。多大な遅れにより各列車の号数は申し上げることはできませんでした。ご了承ください。初めての新潟遠征の動画は今回は第三弾になります。次回もお楽しみに！
The day I took this movie, actually, a big power failure near Jyoetsu-Shinkansen. So, many of the Shinkansen and other trains were late so much. The train in this video don't run usually, so it's very precious.
Series E2 is used in Jyoetsu & Tohoku Shinkansen. But East-Japanese-Railway-Company announced that Series E2 will be replaced by Series E5 & E7. In 2020, you will not see E2. If you want to take a photo and movie of it, you should come Japan as soon as possible. Now, Shinkansen Series E2 can be seen Tokyo, Sendai and Niigata Station and so on in Tohoku-Shinkansen & Jyoetsu-Shinkansen.

Contemporary Art Bullet Train (Japan Trip) / 現美新幹線
The train is called Genbi Shinkansen, which means contemporary art bullet train. It's basically a contemporary art museum inside a high-speed train. It runs between Echigoyuzawa and Niigata in Niigata Prefecture mostly on weekends. No extra fee or seat reservation is required. It also has a playspace for kids and a cafe.
現美新幹線に乗車した時の動画です。走行距離が短いのであっという間でした。運行時刻に合わせて行けば割増料金などなしで普通に乗れます。
