GM of Canada
General Motors' Canadian subsidiary. Its national headquarters office, Canadian Regional Engineering Centre, and main manufacturing plants are located in Oshawa, Ontario. GM Canada is 100% owned by GM.
McLaughlin Car Company of Canada was founded in 1907 when Samuel McLaughlin and William C. Durant agreed to a contract to produce Buick Model F power trains for 15 years at cost plus. The cars became known as McLaughlin Buicks. In 1908 Durant and McLaughlin started General Motors Holding Company after Durant exchanged $500,000.00 of Buick stock for $500,000.00 of McLaughlin Motor Co. stock. McLaughlin also exchanged his Buick stock for General Motors stock, and in 1910 was invited to be on the board of General Motors in Detroit.
In 1915 McLaughlin acquired the Chevrolet Car Company of Canada, which built Chevrolets in Oshawa with Chevrolet motors and McLaughlin bodies. In 1918 he merged his company with it under the name General Motors of Canada prior to his becoming director and vice president of General Motors on the approval of Durant, who was then president of General Motors and owner of the Chevrolet Motor Co.[4]
GM Canada is a private Canadian 100% owned as stated by the Ontario Superior Court Documents 2008 in 1918 McLaughlin Merged his two Companies The Chevrolet Motor Company of Canada Limited and The McLaughlin Car Company of Canada Limited subsidiary that is incorporated by General Motors, so information such as assets, revenues, and profits are not disclosed.

Prime Minister and Premier Help GM Canada Announce Significant Engineering Expansion
Ontario Government Release: Ontario’s Climate of Innovation Attracts Investment from GM
Friday, June 10, 2016, Oshawa — It’s not every day Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne visit GM in Oshawa, but they were both on hand today to help GM Canada’ President and Managing Director, Steve Carlisle announce a major engineering expansion. Over the next few years, GM Canada will add approximately 750 new engineering positions, beyond its current complement of 250 engineers, to drive the innovation agenda in the following key areas:
-Active Safety and Vehicle Dynamics Technology
-Infotainment and Connected Vehicle Technology
-Autonomous Software and Controls Development
“The investments announced today will create good paying jobs, grow Canada’s middle class, and ensure a brighter future for all Canadians,” said Prime Minister Trudeau. “I applaud GM for choosing Canada to be the home base for its global centre for advanced vehicle software development.”
According to Steve Carlisle, GM decided to expand in Canada because it’s a talent rich, pro-innovation location where a solid support ecosystem of partners for transformational technology and innovation can be built. GM’s Oshawa engineering centre will continue to focus on Advanced Programs, Technology and Innovation projects and Clean Energy Technology systems (Diesel and Alternative Fuels). A capability for autonomous development vehicles will also be added.
“A dynamic new innovation cluster is emerging here to support some of the most exciting work in our global industry,” said Steve Carlisle. “We look forward to working with Canada’s leaders and innovation partners to place Canada at the forefront of the key transportation technologies that are changing our world for the better.”
To support all this expansion, GM will be opening a new Software Development Centre located in Markham, Ontario and will also be enhancing its cold weather testing facility in Kapuskasing by doubling the test track length, adding cold cells capacity and capability, and adding a covered Squeak and Rattle track.
In April, GM announced its intention to develop an Urban Mobility Campus in downtown Toronto, a multi-use facility including R&D, sales and service and corporate office uses. Earlier this year, in Waterloo, GM opened the 2908 Communitech Innovation Lab with focus on incubating urban mobility and connected vehicle innovations.
This important event held at GM Canada’s Canadian Technical Centre was attended by dignitaries, stakeholders, and dozens of national media.

What Is Oshawa Known For?
What is Oshawa known for? Dan Plowman here from Dan Plowman Team Realty and I want to answer the question for you what is Oshawa known for.
Most tourist never venture far from the Greater Toronto Metropolitan Area. This is rather sad when you consider that a mere 60 kilometers from downtown Toronto lies one of Ontario Canada's best-kept secrets; Oshawa.
Located on the Shore of Lake Ontario, Oshawa has a history going back to the fur traders or voyagers of the 1700s who established an independent trading post there. Today it is considered the anchor point of both The Golden Horseshoe and Greater Toronto.
For all its history Oshawa has remained a city on the cutting edge. When the automotive industry took off in the mid-1870s it became the car capital of Canada and home to McLaughlin Carriage Company, now known as General Motors Canada which is still headquartered in the city. When growth in this sector slowed it moved on to brighter pastures and is now a hub for health sciences and education as well as being home to a Regional Innovation Centre and IT sector. In fact, Oshawa is considered one of the top five cities in Canada in which to seek employment across several sectors.
While economics and education are always driving forces in any community, Oshawa offers much more than just job and educational opportunities. It is a well rounded and vibrant city with something to offer everyone; single, married, young or old.
Oshawa is home to over 70 restaurants and that number is growing at an astounding rate. From Southern BBQ to Vegetarian Indian. Cuisine of all sorts, the city has something to offer every taste. There are fine dining establishments and Food Trucks to be visited. Italian, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican and fusion restaurants of all types are popping up on every street and the city is alive with young imaginative chefs vying to make a name for themselves and helping put Oshawa on the culinary map as a must visit location.
Just as Oshawa is alive with outdoor activities. There are several parks spread around the city that are great for a quick run, getting the kids outsides or enjoying a quiet lunch. And, it mustn't be forgotten that the nearby McLaughlin Bay Wildlife Reserve has over seven kilometres of cycling and walking trails that are open to the public year-round. It has three entry points, two car parks and several information booths and picnic areas to be enjoyed.
Oshawa offers those who prefer to spend their time indoors as much if not more than the nature lover. Not surprisingly, there is the Canadian Automotive Museum where you will find an ecliptic collection of automobiles dating back to 1902. The nearby Ontario Regiment Museum that features the largest collection of armoured vehicles in Canada is a must see. For art lovers, the Robert McLaughlin Gallery offers over 4500 works of modern art to be browsed and of course, there is The Parkwood Estate former home to the founder of General Motors Canada and the setting for movies like X-Men, Chicago, Billy Madison, and It.
To state it simply the nightlife offering in Oshawa are too numerous to even try to describe. You want to go where everyone knows your name there are bars just like that, that will take you back to that feeling that Cheers once showed and felt. You love 70's Disco; this is the place to be, its here. Lighted dance floor, Oshawa has it all. Country is your bag, maybe you love country music. Great place for country music as well; pick an era, pick a setting. You won't go wrong, Oshawa's a great spot.
I think you get the idea. If you want it, Oshawa has it.
Thanks so much for watching our video on what is Oshawa known for.

GM Canada’s new mandate: The Connected Car
GM Canada president and managing director Steve Carlisle announced today that GM’s Canadian Engineering Centre is growing into an innovation hub for the “connected car” and green technologies, two areas of growing importance for automotive customers and the future of the auto sector.
The Oshawa-based centre is now hiring for the addition of more than 100 software and controls engineers to support a new mandate related to “connected car” systems, environmental and urban mobility solutions.
