Playas Ecuador - Not Awesome
I love Ecuador and I actually liked this town ok the first time I visited 6 years ago. Unfortunatly, the town has changed for the worse. I hate to talk bad about any place, but I can't recommend Playas de Villamil. The combination of trash on the beach, high prices, and locals that are not as friendly as most of the beach towns farther up the coast makes this town a good place to skip. They really have a lot of work to do in order to be the sort of place international tourists would want to visit or move to. This place thrives of weekend or day trip tourism from . Guayaquil. Yes, it has a nice sunny climate compared to most of the coast of Ecuador, and yes, the beach is safe to swim, no huge waves or strong current here, but it's trashy, from the amount of plastic garbage on the beach, to the pay by the hour hotels, to the noise, to the mosquito filled standing water around the construction on the malecon... this town is not the place to be right now.
