The Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue Ulaanbataar Mongolia
The Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue, part of the Genghis Khan Statue Complex is a 40 metre (131 ft 3 in) tall statue of Genghis Khan on horseback, on the bank of the Tuul River at Tsonjin Boldog (54 km (33.55 mi) east of the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar), where according to legend, he found a golden whip. The statue is symbolically pointed east towards his birthplace. It is on top of the Genghis Khan Statue Complex, a visitor centre, itself 10 metres (32 ft 10 in) tall, with 36 columns representing the 36 khans from Genghis to Ligdan Khan. It was designed by sculptor D. Erdenebileg and architect J. Enkhjargal and erected in 2008.[2]
Visitors walk to the head of the horse through its chest and neck of the horse, where they can have a panoramic view. The main statue area will be surrounded by 200 Ger,[3] yurt camps, designed and arranged like the pattern of the horse brand marks that were used by the 13th century Mongol tribes. The cost of the complex is reported to be $4.1 million, spent by The Genco Tour Bureau, a Mongolian company.[4]
The attached museum has exhibitions relating to the Bronze Age and Xiongnu archaeological cultures in Mongolia, which show everyday utensils, belt buckles, knives, sacred animals, etc. and a second exhibition on the Great Khan period in the 13 and 14th centuries which has ancient tools, goldsmith subjects and some Nestorian crosses and rosaries. Next to the museum there is a tourist and recreation center, which covers 212 ha (523.86 ac).

ALL THE GENGHIS KHAN STATUES | Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia
I have arrived in Mongolia! I had a couple free days on both sides of the GAdventures Tour so this is what I got up to in those days.
Unfortunately, rain ruined my first day. I hoped around to different museums which I decided to not pay for the photo fee - it's a running theme in Ulaanbaatar FYI.
I did visit Sükhbaatar Square to snap some pictures of the Genghis Khaan statue when the weather cleared up.
After the tour, I went out to the big metal Genghis Khan Equestrian Statue. It made for a really good morning.
Much love and happy travels

Genghis Khan or Chinggis Khaan? It's still a massive statue!
Today is the last day of our 21 Day Dragoman Tour in Mongolia. It was epic. Learning all about the history of Mongolia and the role of Chinggis Khan and Genghis Khan's sons in the Mongol Empire has been incredibly enlightening. The day is mainly a travel day. It took us over 10hrs to drive to the statue from our bush camp, but the view was worth it. Such a great day.
The giant Genghis Khan statue outside the capital of Mongolia, Ulaanbaatar is HUGE! The Chinggis Khan statue complex is 140 tonnes of stainless steel and over 40m high, the statue is pretty impressive. Inside you'll find tourist shops, cafes, a post office and the worlds biggest Mongolian boot. There is a balcony on the horses head that you can visit for some incredible views. The site is visited by Mongolian families and international tourists alike.

Mongolia is a country like no other. It's like travelling back in time. With a population of only 3 million - half of which live in the only major city (Ulan-Bator) - Mongolia can be a little tricky to get around. With this in mind, we jumped on a tour with a UK based company - Dragoman Overland. It was SO worth it. These guys were great. We can't imagine seeing and experiencing Mongolia any other way.
