Fire-hit enclosure at Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre in Eccleshall rebuilt
A new enclosure has been built at a fire-hit wildlife centre after the public rallied round to raise more than £20,000.
Gentleshaw Wildlife Centre in Eccleshall was closed for three days after the blaze in March, which killed three giant tortoises, a meerkat and around 15 fruit bats.
Volunteers worked to clear the damage caused by the fire, which ripped through three enclosures after being started by a fault in the electrical heating system.
And now one of the enclosures which was destroyed or damaged have been rebuilt after more than £24,000 has been raised.
Jenny Morgan, director at the centre, said the finishing touches are being put on the new enclosure for the meerkats which cost £15,000.
She said: It's very almost done now, it'll be done in a couple of weeks.
Work started on the enclosure in mid April.
We raised £24,000 in total and the first enclosure cost £15,000.
We have two more to build but we've got most of the materials so the funds will pretty much cover it.
Jenny added: The footfall has been up and down with the British weather.
I would like to say a massive thank you to the people who have volunteered and donated as they've allowed us to built a better enclosure than we had before.
Basil the meerkat died in the fire while his partner Sybil escaped and the sanctuary has now found a new mate for her.
Jenny said she was contacted by the owner of a male meerkat who needed a new home, and so Derry was introduced to Sybil after she was fully recovered.
Derry is getting on brilliantly, he's settling in ever so well, she added.

Gentleshaw Rescue
The story of an animal rescue centre faced with an uncertain future as it approaches its 20th anniversary.
Jenny Morgan who runs the Gentleshaw Wildlfie Centre and bird of prey hospital in Eccleshall, knows that an increase in donations and visitor numbers are needed to ensure the centre does not have to close down. This is a fantastic place full of amazing animals. Without this centre many of these animals would not be able to find homes and the only alternative would be to have them put to sleep. This does not bear thinking about and I hope after watching this you can help in some way.
If you can please visit the centre please do so. If you cannot manage to visit you can donate on their website gentleshawwildlife.co.uk
Thank you.

Adorable video of family of wild boars trotting along a road in Staffordshire | SWNS TV
Drivers were left stunned when they spotted a family of wild boars trotting along a busy road. The mother and her seven piglets were filmed grazing and scavenging for food in Burntwood, Staffs. Experts believe it is the first time the animals have ever been seen on the loose in Staffordshire. Wild boars were extinct in the UK for around 300 years but there are now thought to be as many as 2,000 living in the country.

Waking up to the tragic news of the attacks in Paris, and opening the curtains to discover a pouring wet rainy grey Saturday, we decided to treat ourselves to a day out at Peak Wildlife Park. It was a good choice, highly recommended.
Thoughts and Prays to those affected in Paris, and with those who are fighting terrorism in all its many forms.

Shugborough Park Sherbrook Valley Walk, Cannock Chase Walks In Staffordshire, England, UK
Shugborough Park Sherbrook Valley Walk was about 7 miles in distance around Cannock Chase on Boxing Day. The terrain of the route was a combination of woodland and heathland tracks and paths with some road sections, a tarmac driveway and a towpath. The walking was easy on level ground or gentle slopes. Route finding was easy with obvious paths, good waymarking and good landmarks. There were no stiles to negotiate.
